I heard the door bell and knew it would be Hunter. The man really was a saint, just liked to shop a little too much. How was it that I loved the man so much but couldn’t deal with him shopping? I pushed the thoughts away and pulled my bag behind me. What where the guards names again? I kept forgetting. After a moment to speak to them I told them to keep at least four at the house and to keep Matthew out.
I opened the door and hugged Hunter. He looked shocked that I would show him any affection. We went to my Lexus RX, it was a hybrid and cost a mint but I really liked the fact that the seats where heated. So we put our bags in and I noticed that Hunter didn’t have much. When we had split he didn’t have anything to take with him. Yes he had a trust fund from his parents but he, like I have said before is a shopper. So it didn’t surprise me that he was almost flat broke. He still looked good for his age.
Standing at six foot one inch, he had a wide build and thin waist. Mind you that over the years he had put on a few pounds around the waist but he wore it well. His dark hair was now more grey and silver then brown. He had crow’s feet around his eyes and laugh lines around his mouth. Hunter had always had lush lips and I wanted nothing more than to kiss him. What a strange thought, seeing as we had split almost twelve years ago. I sighed and slide into the driver’s seat, as I closed the door I could feel my heart racing. If it was in fear or if it was in excitement, with everything that was going on I didn’t know which was bigger in my heart at the moment. I heard the passenger door shut and started the vehicle. I punched the address into the GPS and noticed that my hands were shaking. I felt Hunter taking my hand and giving it a slight squeeze. I looked up at him and almost broke into tears.
“Why did I leave you?” I asked the question that had been on my mind for at least a month.
“I am not really sure my dare, but you married an idiot after me.” Hunter told me with a laugh.
I couldn’t help but laugh at that. He knew how to make me laugh when I needed it. I took a deep breath and put my hands on the wheel and pulled out of the driveway, looking back to be sure that the guards where around the house.
“So what is going on with the muscle?” Hunter had an idea but didn't say anything.
“I gave Matthew the boot. He wanted me to declare Natalia dead.” I told him and could see the hate in his eyes.
“He did what?” Hunter hate pure distain in his voice. Something I hadn't seen him have before.
I could hear the shock in his voice, along with the anger. I smiled and moved onto the interstate. It would take us a few hours to get to the house, but I wanted to make good time. Natalia had said she would most likely be sleeping during the day. So we would go as far as we could then get a room. I think I kind of liked the idea of getting a room with him. So off we went by the time we had been on the road for two hours I felt like I was going to fall right to sleep.
“I think we need to stop and get a room. I am beat.” I told him and sighed because that meant we had to wait longer to see Natalia.
“That sounds like a good idea; we can get two rooms if you want.” Hunter suggested knowing that I might not want to share a room with him.
I didn’t answer him at this point, I just drove then when we found a nice hotel I stopped and we went in. I smiled at Hunter and then went to the desk and booked a room with a king sized bed. As we went up the elevator I looked at him and finally got the guts to ask him a question I didn’t know if I wanted to answer.
“Hunter I find myself looking back and hating what I did to you. Do you think…” I didn’t get to finish what I was saying because he kissed me so thoroughly my toes curled.
I was trying to catch my breath when the doors to the elevator opened. I guess I got my answer. He did still want me; I never would have thought he would want to take me back. We went into the room and I swear we fell into bed. It had been so long since a man had wanted to touch me that I almost orgasmed from his touch. After a few moments we fell to sleep. I was so tired after the drive and then well you know.
At around noon the next day we got up and went shopping, well we had to waste sometime before we went to Natalia. So we went to some cute little shops by the hotel and I smiled when Hunter picked up a few things that he thought I would like and then some stuff for Natalia. I paid for most of it, but it was nice to have him with me again. Maybe that was what was wrong with my life. I had lost my soul mate. I never really thought about it till I seen him today. The way the wind blew his hair into his eyes and how he fought to keep it from going back. At noon we ate lunch at a little café that sold some of the best soup I had ever had. It was chilly out today, but not cold enough for a heavy coat. Northern Virginia could get really cold around the start of November.
“I can’t believe she is still alive. Did you get to talk to her?” Hunter asked his eyes showing his worry.
