Chapter 645 He Got Away
Alaric was desperately trying to snatch my phone, but I managed to keep it out of his reach. He said calling the cops would mess up the filming schedule, but something about his jittery behavior seemed off. I remembered seeing him chatting and laughing with the guy who clapped the slate earlier. Could Alaric have set this whole thing up?
The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I turned to Victoria. As her assistant, and since she was the one almost assaulted, it was her call on how to handle this.
"Don't call the police."
To my surprise, Victoria didn't want to involve the police either. Since she insisted, I apologized to the officers and hung up.
Victoria bit her lip and looked at Alaric. "Alaric, I need a reasonable explanation."
"I'm sorry, Victoria. I take responsibility for this, and I'll give you a satisfactory answer," Alaric said sincerely, but Victoria frowned, clearly sensing something was off about him too.
Despite the near-assault, Victoria's professionalism shone through. She didn't let it disrupt the filming schedule, and we wrapped up the shoot successfully that afternoon. Before leaving, Victoria asked me to join her in confronting Alaric about the incident.
"Victoria, tell me what you want. I'll do whatever I can to help," Alaric said, trying to appear generous. But he was a terrible actor, and I could see he was scared of what Victoria might demand.
"Call the police and take him to the station," Victoria said firmly now that the shoot was over.
"Well..." Alaric hesitated, then finally said through gritted teeth, "Victoria, I'm sorry, but he got away. We tried to catch him, but he escaped. I'm really sorry."
"Got away?" I blinked in disbelief. "Surely you have his information. Just give it to the police, and they'll find him easily."
"We checked his information. It was all fake," Alaric said with a bitter smile.
All fake? I looked at Alaric, whose expression seemed genuine, but his eyes kept avoiding mine. Clearly, it wasn't as simple as he claimed.
A conspiracy theory started forming in my mind. Victoria being the sole heir to Starlight Productions Group wasn't a secret, especially in the entertainment industry. Could this attempted assault be connected to Starlight Productions Group?
Though curious, I decided it was best to let Victoria handle it. However, I wanted to be cautious. I discreetly messaged Maria to come up and join me. Having her around would make me feel safer.
"So, what do you want to do, Alaric?" Victoria asked.
"Victoria, I think we shouldn't call the police. You weren't hurt, and if we report this, it'll definitely make headlines. With your influence, the story will blow up. People online will twist the facts. They'll say you were raped, or worse, that you got pregnant from it. Do you really want that?" Alaric argued.
"Hold on, Alaric. You were the one who suggested calling the police after the shoot," I interjected before Victoria could respond.
