Chapter 644 You Can't Call the Police

"Emily!"

I was trying to figure out if I had misheard when someone called my name again. Now I was sure; that voice had to be Victoria's. Besides Maria, who was still sleeping in the underground parking lot, Victoria was the only one here who knew my name.

I frowned and looked at the door lock. Someone had definitely locked it on purpose, and it sure wasn't Victoria.

I glanced around and finally focused on the fire extinguisher. Using my phone, I broke the glass and grabbed the extinguisher, aiming it at the door handle and smashing it down.

After everything I had been through, I had learned to stay calm in these sudden situations. Although my actions might seem a bit dramatic, I knew that if I hesitated, Victoria could be in real danger. I might not like her, but that didn't mean I want her to be assaulted!

A few hard hits, and the lock was broken. I kicked the door open.

As the door swung open, I saw what was happening inside. Victoria's mouth was gagged, and a man was straddling her, trying to undress her. Hearing the commotion at the door, the man was startled and tried to run towards the window. But I wasn't about to let him get away. I hurled the fire extinguisher at him with all my might. Luckily, it wasn't too heavy, or I might not have been able to throw it.

My aim was true; the extinguisher hit him square in the lower back, and he fell to the ground with a cry.

"Are you okay?" I asked Victoria as I walked towards the man.

Victoria shook her head coldly, her eyes looking at me as if I were the culprit. I found it odd—did she think I had orchestrated this?

Shaking off the thought, I picked up the extinguisher and aimed it at the man's head. "Don't move, or I'll bash your brains out," I said icily.

The man was too scared to move, believing I would follow through on my threat.

I took a closer look at him and realized he seemed familiar. After a moment, I remembered he was the clapper loader, the person who holds the clapperboard before each take, announcing the scene and take number before the director calls 'action.

Thinking back, I recalled he was pretty chummy with Alaric. They often chatted and laughed during breaks in filming. Could Alaric be behind this?

"Emily, there's a camera over there. Can you turn it off?" Victoria said, finally regaining her composure. She pointed to a corner piled with clothes.

I turned and saw nothing but clothes at first. Then I noticed a small red light. Reaching into the pile, I pulled out a camera. A quick glance showed it had been aimed right at Victoria. This guy had planned to assault her and film it.

Suddenly, I was reminded of what Tanner had tried to do to me at the restaurant. I felt a wave of nausea and covered my mouth, knowing it was a stress reaction. After a few deep breaths, I managed to calm down.

Soon, the crew arrived. Once they understood the situation, a few male employees dragged the would-be rapist away. Seeing no one else was calling the police, I took it upon myself to do so. As I was on the phone, Alaric rushed over, trying to snatch it from me. "You can't call the police!" he shouted.

"Why not?" I asked, puzzled, while still talking to the dispatcher.

"Hang up! If you call the police, how am I supposed to finish filming? We've already caught him. We can hand him over after we're done," he insisted.
