Chapter 648 He Come Pick Up Victoria
Chapter 648 He Come Pick Up Victoria
"No way. You're divorced with a kid. Even if you look decent, there's no way Matthew would go after you. Next time you lie, at least make it believable."
Victoria was livid, practically spitting out each word.
"Believe what you want."
I ignored Victoria after that. She kept at it, so I had no choice but to call Maria over to sit next to me.
We didn't talk the rest of the way. When we got back to Skyhaven and walked out of the airport, I saw Matthew and Kimberly chatting in the distance. I waved at them, and Kimberly jogged over, whispering, "Ms. Johnson, Matthew asked me to pick you up."
"What?"
I was taken aback, not quite understanding what Kimberly meant. But then it hit me—Matthew wasn't here to pick me up, so he sent Kimberly instead. I couldn't believe it.
Kimberly repeated herself, and this time I had to accept that Matthew had indeed made such a bizarre arrangement.
"Then who are you picking up? Victoria?"
I asked irritably. To my surprise, Matthew admitted it. He nodded and said, "Yeah, I promised to pick her up. You go with Kimberly. I'll come see you tonight."
I shot a mocking glance at Matthew's lower half and asked, "Mr. Taylor, if you go too hard during the day, will you still be able to manage at night?"
I was genuinely angry at Matthew's strange decision, so I didn't care that Kimberly was right there.
"Should I step aside? It feels like this conversation is about to get a bit too personal for me," Kimberly said with a smile. Despite her words, she clearly had no intention of leaving.
"You know better than anyone if I can manage. I'll deal with you tonight," Matthew said, raising his hand to flick my forehead. But I was used to his moves by now and easily dodged. In doing so, I bumped into someone behind me. I quickly apologized, but when I looked up, I saw it was Victoria.
"It's fine, no need to apologize. Matthew, did you come specifically to pick me up?" Victoria asked, pretending to be magnanimous, but it was clear she was showing off in front of me.
Matthew shook his head and said, "Not specifically. You asked me to pick you up, and I agreed. I keep my promises."
Though he didn't directly admit it, Victoria took it as a victory. She leaned in and whispered to me, "You didn't appreciate it when you had the chance. Now you know who Matthew really likes."
"I..."
I wanted to argue, but then I thought, 'If Matthew is using Victoria, letting her have some illusions might not be a bad thing. Maybe Matthew picked her up in front of me on purpose to give her that impression.'
I sneaked a glance at Matthew. I used to think he was straightforward because he always said what was on his mind. But now I realized he wasn't as simple as I thought. Otherwise, he wouldn't be the head of Horizon Innovations Group.
Still, knowing the tactics Matthew used on Victoria made me a bit uncomfortable.
I looked at Victoria again, feeling a bit sorry for her.
"Emily, we're leaving." As she left, Victoria couldn't resist flaunting one last time. She waved at me with a triumphant smile.
Little did she know, as she turned to wave goodbye, Matthew turned to me and mouthed something. It was easy to read his lips and understand what he said. "I love you."
