Chapter 88

Michael took the child, and he ran away from Greg's company. He took a cab rather than use his car and returned to his house. He quickly packed all his things and left the house. He took his credit cards and cashed everything out. He didn't want to be tracked. He took another cab to the airport.

He waited until the little child had woken up, then he boarded a flight, using his medical license to fly the boy abroad without his adoption papers. Once he got to California, his first stop was the CIA. As soon as he got in, he found Martin first and related his problems to him. Martin was just a youth at that time and hadn't become the secretary of the organization, but he was in training.

After Michael related his problems to him, he took Michael to his trainer, who was the then secretary. Martin related Michael's problems to him, and the man decided to see Michael by himself.

"What do you say is the matter?" The man had asked. "My name is Jack; you can call me Jack."

"Jack, I'm Michael." Michael said, and they shook hands. "Look, I found this boy being experimented on by a psychoscientist. I don't know what his main objective is, but I figured out that he takes little children and experiments on them."

Jack nodded slowly. "And do you have proofs for your claims? You know that we don't work without proofs."

"I didn't come for you guys to bring him down; I only want protection. I don't want them to find us." Michael stated. "Also, I want to adopt the boy as my son to avoid any suspicion."

Jack stared at him. "You what protection? What can you do in return?"

"I'm a scientist myself, and I've been trained in some special tricks. I can be a very good spy. Perhaps I can work for you guys, and in return, I get protection."

"Work for us?" Jack repeated. "That's not for me or you to decide. If you wish to be an agent, I can assess you, and after the assessment, I will send you the contract. But first, let me take the matter to the directors."

Michael nodded. "Alright, shall I drop my contact details? I still need to try and settle into this country."

"You should wait. Because if you're going to be an agent with us, we will decide a lot of things, ranging from your location of residence to your free time and your cover work."

"Cover work?" Michael asked. He glanced at the young man who stood attentively, watching everything unfold before him.

"Yes, you need something else to do while being an agent, so that no one will suspect you." Jack said.

Michael accepted. A week later, Jack took him to a moderate apartment. He showed Michael around and gave him the keys as well as a car.

"Woah. All these?" Michael asked. "Only for being an agent?"

"Your assessment was complete, and the agency values someone like you. We will also pay you for your service, but in return, you must work for us completely. Whatever you do, make sure to keep this a secret."

Michael accepted. He moved in with his son, Landon, and they began to live together. After a few months of working with the agency, Michael returned home to be with his son, and he noticed that the boy was behaving strangely.

The lady he had put in charge of the boy had noticed it and talked to him about it. Michael always let her off whenever he was around. So he told her to leave and decided to take care of the boy.

He watched Landon and noticed that, truly, he was strange. Landon seemed to have an unusual strength. Whenever he grabbed a glass cup or something fragile, it would instantly break. If he wanted to run, he seemed to be faster than normal and still managed to do it stealthily.

Michael decided to take him to the agency to meet Jack. When he related the issue to Jack, Jack called the senior doctor to look into it. At that time, Phil was a new intern at the clinic, but he had a wild knowledge of human genetics.

One look at Landon, and he could tell that the boy was different. He asked Michael some personal questions about the boy, which Michael answered, and he knew that perhaps the experiment had been successful. But they could not determine the components of the experiment.

"We have to keep this boy safe." Jack stated. "He could be our ticket to a huge breakthrough in the agency."

Michael frowned a little. "The agency? How so? The contract is between us; it has nothing to do with the little boy."

Jack wasn't going to let the man know that he had a choice in granting Landon's freedom, so he had to work on the contract way before Michael could notice the changes. He simply smiled at Michael, concealing his motives.

"Michael, I understand your concerns. But do you think that this man would not be after your son? We need to keep him very safe. As a matter of fact, I think it will be better if he begins to train at the agency. So that he would get familiar with his powers and how to control them." Jack explained.

"Look, I know that, as a father, you are very concerned about his welfare. But you need to think about the future. He has to be readied completely."
