Astrid's heart was racing as she read the letter again. Who could have written this? And what did they mean by "Prince Ryder is not what he seems"? She felt a surge of doubt and uncertainty. Was she making a mistake by marrying him?
She decided to confront Prince Ryder about the letter. She found him in the library, pouring over some documents.
"Prince Ryder, can I speak with you?" she asked, her voice firm.
He looked up, a hint of surprise on his face. "Of course, Astrid. What's on your mind?"
Astrid handed him the letter. "I received this today. What do you know about it?"
Prince Ryder's expression changed, his eyes narrowing. "I don't know anything about it," he said. "But I can assure you, Astrid, I am exactly what I seem. A man committed to our kingdoms and our marriage."
Astrid wasn't convinced. She saw something flicker in his eyes, something that looked like guilt.
"I want to believe you," she said. "But I need to know the truth. What are you hiding from me?"
Prince Ryder sighed, rubbing his temples. "Astrid, I...I have a past. One that I'm not proud of. But it has nothing to do with our marriage or our kingdoms."
Astrid's mind was racing. What could he have done? And why was he keeping it from her?
"Tell me," she said, her voice firm.
Prince Ryder hesitated, then nodded. "I'll tell you everything," he said. "But you have to promise me one thing."
"What's that?" Astrid asked.
"You have to promise me you'll still marry me," he said, his eyes locked on hers. "No matter what.
Astrid hesitated, unsure of what to say. She didn't know what Prince Ryder's secret was, but she had a feeling it was something big. Something that could change everything.
But she also knew that she couldn't back out of the marriage now. Her parents would never allow it, and it would mean war between their kingdoms.
"Okay," she said finally. "I promise. I'll still marry you, no matter what you tell me."
Prince Ryder nodded, a look of relief washing over his face. "Thank you, Astrid," he said. "I appreciate your trust."
He took a deep breath, then began to speak. "I have a child," he said. "A daughter, named Sophia. She's three years old."
Astrid's eyes widened in shock. "You have a child?" she repeated. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Prince Ryder shook his head. "I was going to, but I didn't know how. I was afraid you'd change your mind about marrying me."
Astrid felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Prince Ryder had a child, and he'd kept it a secret from her.
"Why didn't you tell me?" she asked again, her voice shaking with emotion.
Prince Ryder sighed. "I was young and stupid when Sophia's mother got pregnant," he said. "I didn't know how to handle it, so I hid it. I've been raising Sophia on my own since she was born."
Astrid couldn't believe what she was hearing. Prince Ryder had a whole other life, one that he'd kept secret from her.
"What about Sophia's mother?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Prince Ryder's expression darkened. "She's not in the picture," he said. "She didn't want to be a mother, so I've been raising Sophia on my own."
Astrid felt a pang of sympathy for Prince Ryder. She couldn't imagine how hard it must have been for him to raise a child alone.
Astrid's mind was reeling with questions and emotions. She didn't know what to think or feel. Part of her was shocked and upset that Prince Ryder had kept this secret from her, but another part of her felt sorry for him and the situation he was in.
"What does this mean for us?" she asked finally, looking up at Prince Ryder.
He took a deep breath before answering. "It means that Sophia will be part of our lives, together," he said. "I want you to be her stepmother, Astrid. I want us to raise her together."
Astrid felt a surge of uncertainty. She had never thought about being a stepmother before. She didn't know if she was ready for that kind of responsibility.
"I don't know, Prince Ryder," she said hesitantly. "I need time to think about this."
Prince Ryder nodded understandingly. "I know this is a lot to take in," he said. "But I hope you can find it in your heart to accept Sophia and be her stepmother. She needs a mother figure in her life, and I think you could be great for her."
Astrid nodded, feeling a sense of determination. She would do this, for Prince Ryder and for Sophia. She would be the best stepmother she could be.
"Okay," she said finally. "I'll do it. I'll be Sophia's stepmother."
Prince Ryder's face lit up with a smile, and he pulled Astrid into a hug. "Thank you," he whispered. "Thank you for understanding."
As they hugged, Astrid felt a sense of hope. Maybe this marriage wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe they could even find happiness together, as a family.
