“What… what are the police doing here?” Mr Clark asked with a pale face as he glanced at the men in blue then at Rhiannon who rolled her eyes at his cowardice.
“Your wife refused to give us my mother-in-law’s jewels and belongings. Of course, there is a need to call the police,” Octavius said coldly causing Clark to glance at him.
They were curious about how the man had contacted the police when they didn’t see or hear any call being made.
“When you guys weren’t paying attention, I texted one of our bodyguards,” Octavius said when he saw their confused faces and eyes full of curiosity.
“We have been informed that there is a case here?” one of the police asked while the other had a pale face when he saw Octavius.
“Sir, what are you doing here?” he asked as he glanced at Octavius.
Octavius turned and glanced at the man when he realized that the latter was talking to him.
“Do I know you?” Octavius asked the police coldly and as he glared at him signaling him to shut up.
Seeing the man’s glare and question, the policeman realized that Octavius didn’t want people to know his identity.
“I am sorry. I had mistaken you for another person,” he said hurriedly and Octavius nodded in satisfaction.
He gave him a last glance before turning around.
The Clarks who had thought that Octavius knew the police and that he might be an influential man and not a kept man sighed and disgust was evident in their eyes as they looked at the latter.
“Sir. My husband instructed his men to call you here,” Rhiannon said as she wasn’t surprised by the policeman.
“Husband?” The same policeman asked in surprise as he glanced between Rhiannon and Octavius.
Realizing that he had misspoken, he apologized immediately. “I am sorry. It is just that lady is so young and I didn’t think that she was married.”
Rhiannon smiled at him and didn’t say anything.
“What’s the problem miss?” a policewoman asked as she looked at Rhiannon.
“The woman is my stepmom or should I say my father’s mistress. After my mom died, she left a lot of things. As the daughter, I am supposed to take her belongings right? The jewels and clothes. As for the other properties, she had already changed them to my name.” Rhiannon explained causing the policewoman to nod her head.
“That’s true. As her daughter, you have every right to inherit everything that belonged to her. If she is a mistress and not related to either you or your mother, the woman has no right to take anything that doesn’t belong to her,” the policewoman said causing Rhiannon to smirk as she glanced at the old couple.
Mrs Clark's face had already turned white the moment she saw the police. She cussed at Rhiannon inwardly so many times as she regretted not killing the latter when she was young or after her mother’s death.
Rhiannon saw the look on the woman and her bloodshot eyes piercing at her but she didn’t care about her. Octavius on the other hand wasn’t pleased at all.
He glared at Mrs Clark fiercely causing her to feel as if someone was shooting daggers at her and at the same time, the room’s temperature was colder than before.
She glanced in the direction where the glare was coming from and met with Octavius' cold eyes. She took a step backward out of fear and when she realized what had just happened, she scolded herself for being useless.
“I came here to take my and my mom’s belongings but most of the jewels are gone and all of my mom’s have been taken away. I asked for them but Dad said why do I expect Mom’s jewels to always stay in her room instead of being worn. I complained and threatened to call the police and they gave me just these few boxes when my mom had more than fifty boxes full of jewels. I asked them to bring the rest and my jewels but they refused. I had no other choice than to call for your help,” Rhiannon explained and the police nodded in understanding.
The policeman who recognized Octavius felt pity for the couple as he knew that those who offended the latter never succeed in anything they did or wanted to do. He didn’t say anything as he felt that that wasn’t his business and that he shouldn’t dare to offend the big shot.
“Mrs. Clark kindly brings all the jewels you are hiding if you don’t want to go to jail,” the policeman said to Mrs. Clark coldly.
“What? Those are the only jewels I had! How dare you claim that I am a thief in my own house. Maybe this servant was the one who stole them!” Mrs Clark said as she didn’t want to admit.
Rhiannon’s and Octavius' face darkened when they heard her words. Mr Clark faceslapped himself as he wondered where he had gotten such a stupid woman from.
“I am sorry but all know that this isn’t your house but mine and she is my mother’s most trusted aid. How dare you call her a thief! If she was a thief, why didn’t she ever steal anything when my mother was still alive? Also, why didn’t she steal them after Mom died and run away instead of staying back and bringing me up as Mom had instructed her?” Rhiannon asked coldly.
