Chapter 29 chapter 29
Chapter 29
Natalie was about to get off work, but she received a patient who needed an emergency surgery.
She went to Sean and said, “Babe, I will have to trouble you to pick Jojo up from school.”
“Don’t worry about it. I will pick her up, and we will make dinner.”
“Thank you.”
Natalie rushed to the OR because the patient was already waiting.
…
Vivian could not concentrate on her work, no matter how much she tried. Every time she looked at the files in her hands, the only thing that appeared in front of her was Natalie’s face.
She gritted her teeth as she destroyed the documents with her pen, “Natalie, you should not have come back. You should have stayed in that hole for the rest of your fucking life! Why are you even back when I have already taken everything away from you?”
“But what if I am just overthinking and my eyes tricked me? What if that woman was not Natalie?”
“Argh!” Vivian held her head in her hands. Looking at her watch, she noticed that it was almost time to pick up Jayden from school.
Vivian quickly stood up and took her handbag. She had seen Natalie outside the school, and although she had no idea what she was doing there, she had a feeling that she might run into her if she went to school early.
She did not really mind waiting if that would help clear the suspicion in her mind. Because the moment she saw Natalie, she felt as if she was being haunted.
Vivian arrived an hour early before the school closed. She thought of parking the car in the school parking lot, but after thinking about it, she let go of the idea. She instructed the driver to park not far from the school gate, somewhere she would be able to see everyone who entered and left school.
Her hands were nervous, and her heart was beating out of proportion.
“Well, I just hope that I am overthinking and that bitch is not actually back.”
But even after the school had been deserted, Vivian had not seen Natalie. She had looked through every car, and she did not see the face that made her have goosebumps in the morning.
Vivian heaved a deep sigh of relief as a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips, “Well, I gave myself a scare over nothing. Thank goodness I was just overthinking.”
Vivian told the driver to enter the school so that she could finally pick up her son. She had been so worried the whole day for nothing.
Vivian had already wasted so much time, so the moment the driver parked the car, she jumped out and walked towards the classrooms. Jayden must be wondering why she was late today.
Vivian was about to enter Jayden’s classroom, but her phone suddenly rang. In her haste to remove it from her purse, she bumped into someone.
Vivian yelped in pain since she almost broke her nose, “Ouch!”
Sean was stunned when someone bumped into him. He had bent over to speak to Jojo, so he did not see the person coming.
He immediately looked up and, seeing that it was a lady, he immediately apologized, “Sorry, Miss. Are you okay?”
Vivian was lucky that she was able to stabilize herself in time. She was about to say something, but upon hearing the man’s voice, she halted in her steps, and her breath hitched.
‘Why does that voice sound so familiar?’ Vivian thought.
She turned around, and when she finally had a clear look at the man’s face, her eyes widened in shock, and she thought that she was seeing things.
She could not help but call out the man’s name in a surprised tone, “Sean, you? Is it really you?”
Sean looked at her and frowned. He never expected that he would bump into Vivian of all the people.
Vivian covered her mouth with her hand, “It is really you!”
Sean’s face remained expressionless, and he looked at Vivian as if he were seeing her for the first time.
Vivian had a good look at Sean, and she could not believe her eyes. Well, it had been more than five years, and this man had become so handsome. He was even more dashing than Jason.
Looking at the clothes he was wearing and the custom-made watch on his wrist, he seemed to be loaded with money.
When they were dating back then in college, he was so poor that he could not even afford to take her out on a simple date, and the moment Jason came into her life, she did not think twice before dumping him.
Who would have thought that when she saw him many years later, her heart would skip a beat!
Vivian’s mind stopped working for a moment. She moved forward in an attempt to hug Sean, but the man seemed to have anticipated her move, so he moved to the side.
If not for the door in front of her, Vivian would have fallen so hard to the ground and embarrassed herself.
She turned around and looked at Sean in disbelief, “You…”
Jojo looked at her father, and then at Vivian. The moment she saw her, she did not have a good feeling about her. She asked in her childish voice, “Daddy, do you know this person?”
Sean looked at Vivian with a nonchalant gaze and shook his head, “No, princess, I don’t know her.”
“Daddy, let us go. She doesn’t look like a good person. She might cause us problems.”
“Okay, baby, let us go. We have to pass by the market to get some ingredients. We have to make dinner for Mommy.”
It was only after Jojo spoke up that Vivian realized that Sean was not alone.
She was about to ask him something, but Sean had already walked away without looking back.
Vivian looked at his disappearing silhouette and mumbled, “When did he get married? And he even has a child! And that child, why does she look so familiar, although she was just seeing her for the first time?”
“Sean, you pretended not to know me, right? Hah, you can continue to put on the act, because I also don’t really care. I got the best man in the world, and your little money does not scare me.”
As Vivian was still lost in her thoughts, Jayden tagged at her skirt, “Mommy, why did you come to pick me up so late today?”
“Baby, Mommy had things to do. Come on, I will take you home.”
“Okay.”
“How was school today?”
“It was okay. We have a new classmate, and she is really cute and smart.”
“Hmm, you should take care of yourself, okay.”
