(Author's POV).
Devan was very happy that day. For the first time, he was called Daddy by Adam, and that tiny hand grasped him tightly. A gaze full of longing and great love that he had been harboring. His longing for his father for years, now he can finally express everything to Devan.
Adam has always looked for and wanted to know his father, but he never talked to Freya about it because he knew that something was up. Despite his young age, Adam is quite mature compared to other children.
"Daddy," Adam called.
"Yes, buddy? What's wrong?" Devan continued to sit beside Adam with his hand clasped tightly by Adam.
"You're not leaving again, are you?" he asked, "You're going to stay here with me and mom, right?"
Devan felt a painful stab in his chest. He immediately looked at Freya who was standing beside him. Who seemed to be holding back her tears from flowing.
"I am not going anywhere anymore. I'm sorry that I haven't been by your side, but this time, I'm not leaving you two and will always be by your side," Devan said. He stroked Adam's hair lovingly. "Will you forgive me?"
Adam nodded. "I never hated you. I've always missed you," he said.
Freya's heart burned with sadness and happiness. She couldn't stop her tears from falling. She burst into tears and Tristan quickly put his arm around her shoulders, trying to calm her down.
"Adam looked happy when he found out Devan was his father. I'm sure he's been waiting for this moment to come in his life," Tristan whispered.
Freya didn't know if this was a good thing, but she was also very happy to see how happy Adam was. Adam had never asked her about his father, so she had always wondered if he hated him, but the way he was behaving now showed that he had been missing his father all along.
"After you get out of the hospital, will you go back to New York with mom and dad?" Devan asked.
"Yes."
“You should ask your mom to come along because it looks like she's still upset with Dad," Devan said. He glanced at Freya who was still crying.
"Oh, is mom still angry with you?"
Devan nodded. "Very. I've made fatal mistakes in the past, but I'm trying to make your mother not angry with me anymore. You must help me persuade your mother," he said.
"Uh, all right. Just leave everything to me," Adam said.
Devan chuckled at Adam's seemingly improved condition and he felt relieved and grateful. He rubbed Adam's face and kissed his forehead.
"Good boy."
Devan then stood up and looked at Freya. Tristan quickly pulled his hand from Freya's shoulder because he didn't want to make Devan jealous or think anything of her.
"Today, I have to go back to New York," I said to Freya.
"New York? What for?" Freya asked. She suddenly felt uneasy.
Previously she had insisted on Devan returning, but somehow when she suddenly heard Devan say he was going back to New York with all the problems that were going on, it made Freya feel uneasy.
"I have work to do. And it's urgent," he said.
"Urgent? Office work?" Freya asked.
Devan smiled and rubbed Freya's cheek. "Yes. I've been here too long and I need to handle some work that I can't leave. I apologize for leaving you suddenly like this when Adam is sick..."
"No, it's okay. I can look after him, and there's Tristan too. You have nothing to worry about and you can go back to New York to take care of your work," Freya said. She bit her lower lip. She didn't want to be left behind by Devan, but she couldn't ask him to stay there either, considering their relationship still hadn't really improved.
"If anything happens, call me immediately and I'll come straight back. But chances are, I'll only need two days to get all my work done."
"There's no need to rush, Dev. Adam's condition has improved and you've taken care of the hit-and-run problem. I'll be sending you messages about Adam's progress at all times," Freya said.
"I got it." Devan kissed Freya briefly on the lips and Freya's face immediately turned red with embarrassment.
"Dev, what are you doing? There's Tristan and Adamー"
"Just them, there's no need to feel embarrassed," Devan whispered, kissing Freya's lips again. Freya quickly pushed her body away in embarrassment.
"Dev," she protested.
Devan chuckled. "I'll be right back," she said as she gently rubbed Freya's cheek.
"Hm." Freya nodded.
Devan looked at Tristan. "Please take care of Freya and Adam while I'm gone."
"Don't worry. I'll take good care of them," Tristan said.
Devan turned around and bowed to Adam. He kissed Adam on the forehead before saying goodbye.
"Adam, I'm going back to New York for a few days. I'll be back soon, so you should get well soon so we can be together again. Got it?"
"Uhm! I got it!" he exclaimed.
"Good boy." Devan smiled and ruffled Adam's hair before he walked out of the room.
To be honest, he returned to New York because he needed to solve Viona's problem. Earlier he had been contacted by Jason that he had gotten information that Viona had just returned to New York and was currently on the plane. So he wanted to solve all these problems secretly without telling Freya.
Because Devan didn't want Freya to be even more burdened by all the problems that were happening. Devan wanted Freya to just focus on taking care of Adam who was sick and the rest, he would take care of.
"I'm on my way back to New York," I told Jason over the phone.
Devan has determined that he will solve everything so he can live in peace with Freya and Adam. After finding out that Adam was his son, his enthusiasm for creating a happy family grew even greater. Making sure that he can protect and make Adam and Freya happy.
He planned to meet Viona and then the detectives would hide somewhere so they could arrest Viona and put her in prison. so that she will get the punishment she deserves for all the bad things she has done.
"I won't let Viona ruin our lives again," whispered Devan.
