(Freya's POV).
I can't believe that Tristan actually came here. He stood in the doorway like a statue looking at me. And I was also so shocked and didn't know what to do. Until he walked up to me and hugged me, I hugged him back while burying my head in his chest.
I missed him so much...
"Damn it, Vivian. Don't you know how worried I was when you just left without saying anything?" he asked as he broke the hug. He looked at me with anger, anxiety, and worry shining in his eyes.
"I'm sorry," I said. Because that's all I can say right now.
Meanwhile, Devan stood by the sofa, observing the two of us without saying anything. Tristan immediately looked at the bed where Adam was sleeping and quickly approached him.
"How is he?" asked Tristan.
I approached the bed, right next to Tristan. "The doctor says that his condition is much better."
"What about the culprit? Have they caught him yet?" Tristan looked back, staring at Devan.
"I've taken care of everything," he replied, "I'll head out and you guys can have a chat."
"Dev," I called. For some reason, I felt guilty for him. Maybe because Devan had found out that Tristan liked me and I didn't want him to misunderstand?
"I'm outside. Call me if you need anything," he said with a smile.
I was silent as he walked out of the room and I heard Tristan speak with a small smile.
"What's wrong, Vivian?" he asked.
"Oh, nothing." I sat on the chair by the bed and Tristan continued to stare at me relentlessly.
"How have you been?"
"I'm doing well. I'm opening a flower shop and teaching studio," I told him. I couldn't look at him and just bowed my head.
"Vivian," he called.
"Yes?"
"Can't you go back?"
"Go back?"
"Yes. If you left just because you wanted to avoid me, I apologize. I shouldn't have expressed my feelings to you. We are family even though we are not blood, but you are still my sister. And I want you back with us."
"Tristan, I...."
"I've told Devan about my feelings for you and I've stopped pursuing you. I decided to forget everything, so you can go back and not run away again."
"I'm not running away," I retorted. But it was actually true that I was running away because I didn't want to cause any more trouble.
"Vivian, I know that you love us all. I know that you care about us. That's why you went to protect us, but you also need someone to protect you," Tristan's words made my heart swoon. "And I know that you still love Devan. I have heard all his stories from Devan and he is also not the one who killed your brother. Although I can't justify his attitude in the past, he has tried to prove that he has regretted all his actions and is fighting to get you again."
I didn't know what to say.
"I'm not defending him, but I know that you will never love me. And I can't force you either. You still love Devan, so why don't you give him a second chance?"
"I know that. I'll think about it some more, but right now I want to focus on Adam because he's my only priority right now," I whispered as I glanced at Adam. I took his tiny hand and I felt it move.
"Mom," he calls.
My eyes widened as I saw Adam open his eyes and call out to me in his raspy voice. I scrambled to my feet and bowed to him, as did Tristan.
"Adam, my dear. Are you awake? Do you need anything?" I asked in a shaky voice.
"Hey, Buddy. How are you?"
"Ung, uncle?"
"Yes, it's me. You had me worried, you know that? I came straight here after being told that you'd had an accident," Tristan said. He rubbed Adam's body gently.
"Uh, I miss you, uncle."
I smiled as I cried. Even though he had just gone through a difficult time, Adam was still able to be strong and face everything. He's a strong and brave boy, and I'm proud of him.
"I missed you too. Get well soon and we can go back to playing together again," Tristan said.
He nodded with difficulty, then spoke in a low voice. "Is Dev not coming here? Isn't he worried about me?"
I felt my chest like it had been hit by a boulder. I swallowed my saliva with difficulty, my throat felt choked and my tears almost came out.
"Devan? He's outside. And he's very worried about you, Adam. Do you want to see your Daddy?"
“My daddy??"
"Tristan," I interrupted quickly, looking at Tristan uneasily.
"Don't worry. He'll be fine. You'd better call Devan right away," he pleaded.
I stared at him for a long time before I finally left the room. Indeed, since Adam was moved to the common room, Adam hadn't met Devan because every time Devan came, Adam was fast asleep. So Adam didn't know that Devan had been looking after him and donating blood for him since yesterday.
"Dev," I called. I saw that he had just finished talking on the phone.
"Hm? What's wrong?" he came over to me and rubbed my cheek gently.
"Adam was looking for you," I said. I could immediately see his expression change and he quickly ran into the room.
I followed Devan from behind and he was standing by the bed. They look very similar.
"Hey, buddy. How are you doing, feeling better?" Devan asked. He grasped Adam's hand tightly.
"Dev, are you really my daddy?"
"Daddy?" Devan's face paled as he glanced at me, but I couldn't say anything.
"Uncle Tristan says that you're my daddy," said Adam.
"Before I answer, do you like that I'm your daddy? Don't you hate me?" Devan asked, his voice shaking.
I couldn't hold back the tears that were already welling up. I felt Tristan's arm around my shoulders and tried to calm me down. I never imagined a moment like this would happen to me when Adam found out that Devan was the father he'd been looking for.
Especially with the closeness between the two of them. I felt nervous and afraid that Adam wouldn't be able to accept the fact that Devan was his father and would hate it because Devan had never been there for him.
"I like it when it's you, Dev. Are you my daddy?"
"Yes. I am your daddy. I'm your daddy, Adam," Devan sobbed.
I don't know how this will end, but I feel so grateful for this moment.
