(Freya's POV).
I woke up with my head in a lot of pain. I winced, clutching my head as I tried to move and the dizziness hit me like a hammer hitting my head. In the end, I fell back on the bed and tried to close my eyes as everything started spinning around with the throbbing getting worse.
Vaguely when I opened my eyes earlier I realized that it wasn't my room. I wondered what had happened to me and I recalled that last night I met Devan again after a month of separation. We had argued so much that I felt my head feel heavy and I fell unconscious.
I heard the sound of the door opening and light footsteps approaching the bed. I tried to open my eyes a little. I saw Devan sitting on the bed watching me.
"Are you awake? How are you feeling?" His voice sounded soft and caring. While his warm hands brushed my face and forehead. "You don't have a fever. Does your head still hurt?"
"Umm," I could only reply with a small mumble.
I blinked my eyes. My high was fading, but I could still feel the pain in my head. A throbbing feeling that made me grimace in pain when I tried to get up and sit on the bed.
"Just lie down. Don't push yourself, Freya." Devan quickly pushed my body back to sleep, but gently and carefully.
I could only silently accept all his treatment. I still couldn't believe that Devan wasn't the one who killed Theo. And I also still couldn't believe that Vion was the culprit. Her great love for Devan made her do such a terrible thing. I really didn't expect it. I wanted to ask Devan a lot of things, but right now I was really weak.
I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. My throat felt so dry.
"Stay in your bed. I'll call a doctor to check on your condition," he told me. His hand continued to grip mine tightly while his other hand was busy rubbing my cheek.
"No need. I'm fine. It's just a headache. I'll get better after I take my medicine," I said.
"Freya..."
"I'm fine, Dev. Just give me some headache medicine," I pleaded.
He seemed to sigh heavily before finally getting up from the bed and going out. A few minutes later he returned with a tray containing a glass of drink and medicine. He placed it on the bedside table and then helped me to sit up.
"Slowly," he said as he helped me hold the glass.
"Thank you," I said. I was surprised to see him wiping my lips which left a few drops of water. Why does she have to be so gentle with me? I can't forget him at all times.
"If the pain hasn't healed yet. We'll go to the hospital."
"What time is it?" I asked, ignoring his words.
"Ten in the morning."
"Ten?!" I glared in disbelief. "No, Adam..." I tried to leave the bed, but Devan's burly arms quickly grabbed my body.
"Freya, calm down. I've asked your friend to take care of it," he said.
"My friend?"
"I don't know what her name is. But last night your cell phone kept ringing and I received it. I told her that you had fainted and were here. And I also asked to take care of Adam, so you don't have to worry."
I felt a little relieved to hear Devan's answer. It seemed like I was so exhausted that I could faint like that. I should have taken better care of myself. But all these problems just wouldn't go away.
I looked at Devan, and he grasped my hand tightly. "How?" I closed my eyes while swallowing hard. I needed to control myself before speaking again. "I want to know the rest about Viona."
"Don't worry. I've asked Jason to take care of Viona's problem. It's been a long time coming. And there needs to be more evidence to put Viona in jail. Detectives need to find the person Viona paid to kill Theo. It may take a long time, but I'll make sure Viona gets her comeuppance."
I felt uneasy. I wasn't sure Viona would go to jail. She has great connections. Her family is very rich and Viona could have paid off the prosecutor or even the judge to get her acquitted of all charges. I also can't do anything to find the evidence because it happened so long ago.
Maybe I should entrust everything to Devan. I also can't ask Tristan for help because I don't want to trouble him anymore.
"Freya, I know you feel bad about everything that happened. But I promise I'll work things out. Please believe me," he pleaded. He gripped my hand so tightly that my heart broke.
I nodded and I saw a relieved smile on his face. He hugged me very tightly, but I didn't reciprocate. I was too tired and weak just to lift my arms. Everything seemed so vague in my vision. Until I no longer knew what would happen to me in the future.
"From now on, please lean on my shoulder, Freya. I swear I will take care of you."
"No, Dev," I said, pushing him away. "I thank you for helping me with Viona's problem. And I also apologize for accusing you of murder. But I can't...." I shook my head weakly.
"What do you mean? Isn't everything clear? Freya ... Please don't be like this." My heart hurt when I saw the disappointment and hurt in Devan's eyes. But I was just as hurt.
"I've decided, Dev. I want to live my life only with Adam. I want to forget all my previous lives, including you. I've forgiven you, so you don't need to feel sorry or owe me an apology."
"No, no. This is not what I want." He gripped my wrist. Looking at me with his eyes that looked so sad, as if he was afraid of losing me. "Freya, please don't be like this to me."
"I'm sorry, Dev. I hope you can respect my decision," I whispered as I let go of his hand. I was surprised to see him crying. Was he in that much pain from losing me?
"I'm sorry. Please forgive me, Freya." He dropped his head on my lap. He looked so fragile with his sobs that it broke my heart. "You can do anything to me. Hit me, curse me, anything while it satisfies you. But I beg you, don't ever walk away from me. I need you, Freya. I love you...."
He should have done this from the very beginning when I was on my knees and crying for him that night. But you didn't care about me at all, Dev. Everything was ruined and it was your fault. But I also can't blame you completely because I know how you feel being a brother who lost his sister.
"I'm sorry, Dev. But I can't. Let's just live our own lives."
