(Devan's POV).
"Dev, stop talking nonsense," she protested, "I'm not your girlfriend."
I groaned as Tristan pulled Vivian's hand back and hugged her tightly. I glanced at him sharply.
"Enough. You seem to be overreacting to my sister," Tristan insisted, "I thank you for saving Vivian. But your help will have to suffice here because I'll take care of the rest."
My fists clenched in anger. I wanted to punch him in the face, but I couldn't do it in front of Vivian.
"Let’s go, we should go back home and prepare for the police station," Tristan said. He led Vivian away and I could do nothing but stay silent.
I didn't want to pressure Vivian because I knew she was still in an unstable state after what happened yesterday. I should be able to restrain myself even though I'm very jealous of seeing them so clingy.
Damn.
I knew they were brother and sister. But I kept feeling uneasy every time I saw their closeness. Tristan's gaze every time he looks at Vivian, it's not like the gaze of a brother and sister.
"Fuck. I think I've lost my mind," I growled. I was overthinking things so much that I was jealous of her brother, which obviously couldn't be the case.
I followed Vivian and Tristan's car from behind on the way home. And that's when I got a call from Jason.
"Hm?"
"How's Vivian's condition? Is she okay? I heard from Max that the culprit has been caught," Jason said from the other side of the phone.
"She's fine."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't have time to think about anything else. My focus is only on Vivian," I said.
"It seems like you're already crazy about her."
I let out a long breath. "After this, we'll go to the police station."
"I'll be there to help you."
"Hm."
The phone call ended. I let out a long breath while leaning my head on the car seat.
"Sir, should we follow her or should we go back to the apartment?"
"Back to the apartment. I'll get ready first before we go to the police station."
"Yes, sir."
I closed my eyes. I hadn't been able to sleep all night and only got to sleep at dawn because I was too worried about Vivian. With my one hand still injured, I couldn't do much on my own.
I didn't have time to rest because after leaving the apartment, I went straight to the police station. Vivian and Tristan were already there talking to the police chief who was handling the matter.
Not long after, Jason came to greet me.
"How was it?" Jason asked.
"She's talking to the chief of police and Max," I replied.
I walked over to Vivian with Jason following close behind.
"I want to know his motive for doing this to me," Vivian said.
"Oh, about that... we asked him about it and it turns out he was in a mental hospital for a few months," Max said.
"A-A mental hospital?"
"Yes. He told us that he met you at the mental hospital. Is that true, Miss Vivian?"
I saw that Vivian didn't react to Max's question. I immediately touched her shoulder, making sure that she was okay.
"Vivian?"
"Oh, I'm fine," she said as she looked at me, "I... I just remembered. I often assist several hospitals including the mental hospital and occasionally come there. I think I'm just remembering now that I met him there. It was Valentine's Day, and we gave roses to every patient there. I remember giving him a rose..."
"And he only got out of the mental hospital three months ago," Max informed her.
"It's like he remembered you in some other way and turned it into an overwhelming obsession," the police chief said.
"Like the guy next to me," Jason whispered in my ear.
I glanced at him sharply as he grinned at me. I wanted to rip that mouth of his that couldn't shut up.
"We will take good care of this matter. And since he has a history of mental illness, our side will also provide treatment for his condition," the police chief said.
"Yes, I understand. Thank you for your help."
Vivian was still inside the police station to take care of some documents she had to sign while I was outside with Jason.
"It seems like there are a lot of men interested in her," Jason said.
I knew he was deliberately saying that to make me jealous. Especially when he spoke with a mocking smile.
"Shut up. I'm not in a good mood," I snapped.
He chuckled. "I'm just stating a fact. It looks like you'll have to be more persistent in stealing her heart if you don't want to lose out to other men. I asked one of my friends who knows Vivian and he told me that there are a lot of men who are trying to get close to her. They want to marry her because of her beauty."
"Shut your mouth," I groaned in annoyance, but Jason laughed even more.
"Be patient. She's behind you. I'm sure you don't want to show your dark side in front of Vivian," he whispered while patting my arm.
I cursed inwardly and turned around to see Vivian coming out with Tristan.
"Vivian. I didn't get a chance to greet you inside. How are you doing?" Jason asked.
"I'm fine. Thank you for coming here and helping me, Jason."
"No big deal. I came because Devan asked me to. You should thank him because he did his best for this problem. He didn't even sleep," Jason said.
I didn't know he was good at lying, but I thanked him for making me look good in front of Vivian.
"Dev, thanks for everything," Vivian said.
"Hm," I muttered.
"I've done what I can do, so do the rest well," Jason whispered in my ear, "Vivian, I'm leaving. Bye."
"Yeah, bye Jason."
Silence enveloped us after Jason left.
"Vivian, we should go back home so you can get some rest," Tristan said.
"You don't want to go to my house? To check on Adam?" I held Vivian's hand as Tristan led her away. "I'm sure he'll be happy to see you."
"Vivian will stay at home. I'll be the one to pick him upー"
"That's okay, Tristan. I'll go with Devan to pick up Adam. You just come back," Vivian said.
I smirked with satisfaction at the disappointment on Tristan's face when Vivian chose me over him.
