(Freya's POV).
I woke up in the morning with pain all over my body. The pain in my neck left red marks from his strangulation.
I still didn't expect that I would experience such a horrible incident yesterday. And I don't know what would have happened to me if Devan hadn't been there to help me. I was lucky and grateful to be saved by him.
I looked at Devan who was still fast asleep beside me.
Did he take care of me all night? With his left hand still bandaged. I'm sure he had a hard time taking care of me.
I remember I kept crying hysterically when I suddenly woke up because of the nightmare I had and Devan was beside me to calm me down.
I never thought there would be a moment like this.
This was the first time I saw Devan's face this close, this detailed. It's been four years since we parted and he's now more mature than ever.
"Oh," I squealed as Devan suddenly touched my hand when I tried to touch his cheek. His eyes blinked and his pair of black eyes stared straight at me.
Reflexively, I pulled my hand away and he hurriedly sat down. My face was already flushed with embarrassment. I was afraid he'd think I was trying to do something to him.
"I’m sorry," I said.
He looked at me without saying anything. Just looking at me with his sharp eyes, which made me feel uneasy.
"Devー"
"Does it still hurt?" I widened my eyes in surprise when he suddenly touched my neck and rubbed it gently.
"Oh, yes, I..."
"I want to kill him so badly when I think of how he touched and hurt you like this," he whispered hoarsely.
I froze, stunned that he was so angry at seeing me hurt.
"I'm fine. It'll be better after a few days," I said as I moved his hand away from my neck. I tried to smile even though I still felt scared. "Dev, thank you for helping me."
"Anything for you, Vivian," he whispered. He rubbed my cheek. "Are you sure you're feeling better?" he asked with a worried expression.
I nodded. "Yes. What about Tristan and Adam? Where are theyー"
"Dev." I gasped in shock as he suddenly kissed my lips. My hand moved to push him away, quite gently, but I didn't hate it.
"Did he kiss you?" he whispered above my lips.
I thought he kissed me for no reason, but I didn't know that he was still thinking about the person who hurt me.
I shook my head weakly.
He groaned before kissing me again. I closed my eyes and squeezed his shirt. It felt so strange. I should have rejected him, but somehow, I felt quite comfortable when he kissed me.
It was as if all my pain and fear just disappeared when he kissed me. My mind went blank and his kiss was all I could feel.
"Vivian," he whispered under his breath. I could feel the pounding of his heart as my hands pressed against his chest. "Let me take care of you."
I shifted my gaze, swallowing my saliva with difficulty. My lips were wet from his kiss and swollen.
"I need to find Adam. He must be worriedー"
"I already told Aiden to take care of him for a few days."
"Aiden?"
"My brother. Don't worry. He'll take good care of him," he said.
I was surprised to hear what he said. Adam had never been with anyone other than me and my family, so I was surprised that he would just take in a stranger he'd never met.
"Didn't he cry?"
Devan smiled. He kissed my lips so quickly that I didn't have time to resist. "No. Aiden sent me a video last night. Adam was playing with him. I think they're a good match."
"Oh?" I was quite surprised to hear that. But being with Aiden is better than leaving him with Adrienne. Because I'm afraid Adrienne won't take good care of him considering she doesn't like us.
And I knew for sure that Aiden and Devan's parents were good people. I felt guilty for leaving them without saying thank you and sorry because in all the time I've known them, they've always been good to me, especially Aiden.
"You want to call him?" Devan asked.
"No, I don't want him to see me in a mess. I trust Aiden will take good care of him," I told him, "so where's Tristan?" I looked at the closed door.
"He's sleeping in the next room."
"Oh, I want to see him," I said. I wanted to get away from Devan quickly because I didn't know what to do next to him, especially since I could answer every time he asked about our relationship.
I could hear him growling in annoyance as I got out of bed, but he didn't protest or prevent me either.
I went downstairs because Tristan wasn't there when I checked into his room. I see him in the kitchen alone. He looked sluggish with a sad expression on his face.
"Tristan," I called out.
When he saw me, he immediately rushed to hug me.
"How are you? Are you okay now?" he asked with a worried expression.
I touched his arm. "I feel better already. Thank you, Tristan."
"I didn't do anything for you," he said.
I shook my head, and without saying anything, I hugged him tightly. I know he must have been so worried when he found out my life was almost lost and he couldn't save me. I knew he cared about me more than he cared about himself.
"Oh, Fuck," he growled, "you have no idea how worried I was when I found out you were almost...." his voice trembled. I could feel his burly arms holding me very tightly.
I closed my eyes. He was the only place I was comfortable right now.
"Earlier, the police contacted us and told you to come to the police station and tell the chronology of what happened." He let go of my hug. "Are you okay with coming to the police station to take care of everything?"
I nodded. "Yes. No problem. I'm fine, Tristan."
"You can tell me if you're not up to it."
"No, I also want to know why he's doing this to me. He did say that I'd forgotten him, but I'm sure I've never seen him," I said.
"He knows you?" Tristan furrowed his brow.
"Yes. He said he was sad that I didn't remember him."
"That's strange," Tristan said.
"We'll know once we ask him directly." I looked back and saw Devan walking towards us. I was surprised when he suddenly pulled me in and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Devー"
"I'll accompany you when you go to the police station," he cut me off as I was about to protest.
"With one injured arm?" Tristan mocked.
"I have a driver."
"It's much better if I drive Vivian. I'm her brother, her family." I gasped as Tristan pulled my hand away forcefully and hugged me.
I saw Devan's facial expression turn annoyed. "And she's my girlfriend!" he exclaimed, pulling me back into his arms. Made me more shocked by his words.
