(Freya's POV).
"You'd better stop staring at me, Dev," I suggested anxiously. "I'm not going to disappear suddenly." But Devan only responded with a small smile, still dropping his gaze to me.
I glanced at the driver who had been silent. Even though Devan had been staring at me, I was embarrassed.
I shouldn't have accepted Devan's invitation to go to his house, but I rather didn't want an argument to break out between Devan and Tristan. I know how Tristan doesn't like Devan, and Devan doesn't like Tristan either.
So how could I let them be together?
Silence engulfed us for a while.
"Dev, stop."
"I didn't know you were that popular," it only took a second for him to cut me off. And I immediately looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
"I heard from Jason, there are a lot of guys trying to get close to you."
I furrowed my brow. "How would he know... no, I mean, where would he get information like that," I growled in annoyance as I saw Devan chuckle at my words.
"So, is it true? You're popular."
"I didn't say that," I protested, "who did Jason get that information from?" I asked again.
Devan looked uncomfortable and adjusted his sitting position. His hand reached out to touch my fingers and played with them.
"That's not important. What matters most is what you think of them," he looked at me intensely.
I knew where he was going with the conversation, and I didn't know what to answer. I pulled my hand away from him. And he snorted in annoyance.
"When are you going to have your bandages removed?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
He chuckled. "Why? do you want to accompany me to remove the bandages on my hands?"
"No, I'm just asking," I replied.
I could see Adam's apple moving up and down as he swallowed. His eyes as sharp as crows kept monitoring me as if to make sure I wouldn't disappear. And that made me feel nervous.
"Can't you keep me company?" he asked, "I need someone by my side. You don't know what my difficulties are like when one of my hands is injured. I need someone else to help me put on my clothes."
"You can ask your brother for help."
"Two men in the room and help with dressing."
I laughed at his answer. But suddenly he smiled as he looked at me, and I immediately fell silent. Clearing my throat while trying to be calm.
"Laugh more often. I love it when I see you laugh," he said, "it's so pretty."
I'm sure my face would have been bright red by now. I could feel my face getting hot and I hurriedly averted my eyes from him.
"You're very good at flirting. Is that why Viona loves you so much?"
"Viona?" His facial expression instantly turned unhappy. "Vivian, I swear, I have nothing but a friendship with Viona."
"She loves you. And I've made it clear to her that we have no relationship," I said.
"No," he insisted, "we will have a relationship. Sooner or later. I will make you change the way you look at me and accept my feelings."
"Devー"
"There is no rejection, Vivian. Never," he cut me off.
Not long after that, we arrived at Devan's family home. I was surprised that they had moved and weren't in their old house. Our car entered the courtyard and stopped in front of the two-way staircase that led to the door of the house.
Devan got out first and opened the door for me. I was surprised when he took my hand and led me into the house. There was no time to protest because the moment I walked in, Aiden greeted me with a bright smile.
"Vivian!"
"Oh, hi, Aiden. We met at the hospital. Devan told me that you've been looking after Adam," I said nervously, "thank you for looking after him."
"No problem. Adam is very cute, I like him," he said, "is everything going well? How are you feeling now?"
I smiled. "I'm fine. Devan helped to solve the problem and the culprit got the punishment that fit his crime."
"You must be very surprised." He patted my shoulder.
Oh my God... I want to hug him so badly. I missed Aiden so much.
"Where's Adam?" I turned my head as Devan put his arm around my shoulder. I tried to let go, but he tightened it even more.
"He's sleeping. We were just playing a game and it looks like he's exhausted," Aiden informed me.
"Oh, then I'll wait for him until he wakes up," I said.
"How about dinner together?" Aiden offered.
"Dinner? No, I don't want to be troublesomeー"
"My mom and dad won't be home until tomorrow. So, if you feel bad about my parents, then it's not necessary," Devan interrupted me. He led me to the living room.
"Are they out on business?"
"Yes. Visiting a sick relative," Devan said.
I thought he was going to tell me to sit in the living room, but instead, he led me to the stairs.
"Wait, where are we going?" I asked, suddenly stopping and letting go of his embrace. I looked at him with a furrowed brow.
"To my room. Dinner's still a while away. Rest there with Adam," he said. He grinned as he looked at me, "Vivian, what are you thinking about?"
"Nothing." I pushed his chest and he chuckled.
"Come on," he said as he took my hand. "Aiden, tell Aunt Lucy to bring drinks to my room."
