(Tristan's POV).
That night, it rained heavily. I still remember it happened in the middle of the night. My father suddenly called me and told me that he almost hit someone. When I arrived at the hospital, I saw a woman, young, in an almost bedridden state.
I asked my father what had happened and he almost hit her. That was the first time I met her.
I didn't know her name, didn't know if she had a family. And where her husband was.
Shit.
The first time in my life I saw a woman as beautiful as her. But with all the shabby and miserable looks she put on. I always felt my chest tighten whenever I saw her. And it made me want to stay by her side to take care of her.
A few months later, my father came together with her again.
She was the woman I had met in the hospital.
I didn't expect that I would see her again, but under conditions that made me even crazier. My father suddenly told us that he was going to adopt her as his daughter, replacing Vivian who was currently in a coma.
The doctor told us that there was no hope for Vivian to recover because she had been in a coma for so long. So, we decided to let Vivian go in peace.
At first, I rejected my father's idea because it was impossible. How could he tell someone to take his daughter’s identity and give it to another woman of unknown origin?
Freya... what a beautiful name, as beautiful as her person.
In the end, she became Vivian. Living life with her new identity.
While I kept wondering about her previous life. How she got pregnant without a husband by her side. I tried to find out, but there were no articles about her. I didn't even know her family and where she came from.
Maybe my father had deleted all of Freya's personal information before she assumed Vivian's identity. When I asked about Freya, my father told me that her past life was so bad that she wanted to live a new life without anyone knowing about her past life.
I didn't know if she was good or bad, but clearly, I couldn't take my eyes off her.
She was like a fairy.
When she smiled, it made my heart flutter.
I know my feelings are wrong. Right now, she's my sister. Even though she's not my real sister by blood. I tried to erase my feelings for her, but with each passing day, they grew until they drove me crazy.
Until I decided to keep it to myself. Only for me. And look at her from a distance.
At a certain moment, I found out that there was someone who suddenly entered her life.
Devan Harrison Haven.
I don't know where he came from, but he tried to take Vivian away from me.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” I stared at him sharply. Trembling with fear and anxiety.
I don't know what it means to talk like that. Does he know that I love Vivian, or does he know that Vivian is not my biological sister? But I tried to act calm in front of him.
“As an older sibling, you are quite obsessed with your sister,” he said in a mocking tone.
I felt relieved because I thought he knew that I liked Vivian, but he seemed to think I was just too obsessed with my little sister.
“I know you are not a good man. She is my sister, so I need to keep her away from a man like you,” I said in a cold tone.
“How do you know I'm not a good man? Do you know me?” He snorted.
"Just stay away from her and never bother her again."
"I don't want to. Don't boss me around because only Vivian can push me away from her," he said.
I pushed him away in annoyance and clenched my fists. I really wanted to beat him up to vent my emotions. Every time I saw the arrogance on his face, I always felt anxious that one day Vivian would like him.
I knew this was wrong, but I didn't like seeing Vivian with other men. If I could, I'd love to have one, just for me.
Could I?
Just thinking about it made me crazy.
"Go away, you're not needed here anymore. I'm her family, so I'll take care of her," I said.
"You can't kick me out. I'm the one who will take care of her."
"I said, get out of here."
He snorted. "I'm the one who saved her. You weren't here when she almost lost her life." He pushed me and walked up the stairs to the second floor.
I stayed silent as I clenched my fists in anger. I chased him into the room, just as Vivian was waking up.
I saw him sitting on the edge of the bed while I stood watching them with a jealousy that only I knew how that felt.
"How are you feeling? You okay, right?" Devan asked.
"Um..."
I could only watch as Devan touched Vivian so easily. As for me? I was burning with jealousy.
If only I had refused Dad's idea back then, it wouldn't be Devan beside Vivian now, but me.
