CHAPTER 85
ANNA'S POV
When everyone left and I was alone with my mom, dad left to prepare food and to put things together for his work tomorrow. I looked at mom's belly as she patted it, with a mixture of happiness and pain, because I wish my sister was here, because she was really serious about having a baby sibling. Mom noticed that I was looking at her and smiled at me.
“Mom, how long are you gone?” I asked her.
“, I am a little over 5 months gone now.” mom replied to me.
“Mami, I am happy and excited to meet the little one, but am sad Alma is not here with us.” I told her.
“Mija, darling happy thoughts your sister will be found okay, Detective Rodriguez is doing his best okay, think happy thoughts.” mom told me.
“I'll try but I can't help it, mom has been here for a long time?” I asked mom while looking at her.
“Yes, you've been here for three months, but I am happy that you're okay, and you're in time to see your baby sibling being born.” Mom replied to me with a smile on her face.
“I'll be sad and depressed if I miss all the visits to the doctor, and the childbirth too.” I replied to mom with a smile on my face, as my eyes felt heavy.
“You won't miss anything dear, are you sleepy Mija?” mom asked me.
“Yes, mom I just closed my eyes for a bit.” I told mom.
“Okay, mom will be here when you wake up.” she told me, I nodded and closed my eyes.
I felt myself drifting to sleep, when I closed my eyes, In no time I was at a strange place, and I wasn't alone. I was with someone but I couldn't make out their faces, but I heard someone shout my name, I looked but I couldn't see anything was blank, I remember asking “Who are you? “Who are you? and I was crying I felt someone rousing me to consciousness and it was mom, when I opened my eyes.
“, you need to wake up.” mom said to me dropping her mobile phone.
“Mom, what's happening?” I asked her, literally scared.
“You were talking in your sleep, Mija.” she replied to me.
“I was dreaming about a strange place, and everything was blank and I saw someone but, I kept asking who are you? no response." I told mom.
“Don't worry, Mija we'll get through this together, mom is right here okay.” Mom said to me hugging me, while I inhale her familiar scent makes me feel better.
“Thanks, mom, your words make me feel better.” I said to her,
“I was on the phone with you, tia Marcia wanna say hi to her?” mom asked me.
“I'd love to, it's been long.” I told her.
“Mia sobrina, How're you doing?” she asked me.
“Am okay Tia, just a little woozy, and I have a headache now.” I told her.
“, I am so happy that you're awake,” she said, sobbing. “I'm just happy to hear your voice, I'll be flying out to see you when I get my visa.” Tia Marcia said to me.
“I'll be waiting to see you, my regards to my cousins.” I said to her weakly and lay down.
“Marcia, I'll speak to you later.” mom. told her and ended the call.
“Honey, you said you're having a headache, should get the nurse?” Mom asked me to place her palm on my forehead.
“Yes, I'll appreciate it.” I told mom and she pressed the intercom.
Her phone rang, and it was dad.
“Amore, can you still come back here? it's late.” mom said to dad.
“I'll try if it's for a bit, I want to see Anna.” dad said.
“No, please it's late, you can come over, tomorrow I won't get mugged.” mom replied to him.
“Fine, I'll be there tomorrow.” dad said.
The nurse came over, and gave me a few tablets and I slept off after it. The next morning I woke up, and I saw mom sleeping beside me, because the couch couldn't contain her. I placed my hands on her belly, feeling that very soon I am going to be a big sister.
Mom woke up, and rubbed her eyes, she looked at me and sat up. “Mija, have you been up for a long time?” mom asked with a raspy voice.
“Not too long, I was just looking at your belly, it's big and there's a baby in there, it's so surreal.'' I told her.
“Yeah, but honey do you feel pain anywhere? Are you hungry?” mom asked me.
“No, I feel fine and I wanna go home mom, I am sick of this place.” I told her.
“Only the doctor can tell you to go home.” mom replied to me.
“I'm sick of this place, I miss my bed.” I said to mom.
“ You just woke up, and you want to go home already, just bear with it, until the doctor says you can go home alright.” mom said to me.
Mom fed me with some vegetables and fruits like the nurse suggested that I take. It was nice but veggies were my nightmare as a kid, I gave them to Alma who loved her vegetables.
Dad came over, after I finished eating, and he stayed with us briefly before he left for his workplace. Noah called telling me he has a conference meeting today, and he can't come visit me. I had a pang of pain but I told him to go and visit me some other time.
The doctor came after I finished speaking with Mrs Betty and my friends over the phone. It gave me great happiness to hear from Mrs Betty.
The doctor looked pleased as he flipped through my charts, as he reviewed my latest test results. “We'll, Anna,” looking up at me with a smile on his face. “Your scans look good. we are making good progress.”
I looked at him, and back to my mom I was really relieved and happy. “Does it mean that I can go home now?” I asked him.
The doctor nodded, “Yes, if everything continues to look good, and you keep getting better, we should be able to discharge you over the weekend.”
My eyes widened in shock, “Really? I can go home?”
“Yes really,” he replied to me with a gentle chuckle. “But we need to take more precaution, so that your recovery goes smoothly, especially your memory loss.”
My expression grew more serious now, “ I haven't remembered why or how I was attacked, everything is just blank.” I replied to him.
The doctor placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, “Memory loss can be frustrating, especially yours, but it's important that you're patient with yourself. There are few things you can do to help jug up your memory. I like therapy, especially for cognitive rehabilitation.”
Mom leaned forward, her hands on her belly. “That's what I am telling her, doctor.” mom said.
“Keep a daily routine, like a journal, write down your feelings and this might help trigger your memory, or you can visit this therapist he'll help you a lot.” he said, giving us a card.
“Thank you doctor, we'll look into that soon enough.” mom says to the doctor.
“We'll set up your discharge papers, and make sure everything is in order for your return home this weekend.” he said to me. “Just take it one step at a time, everything will fall into place.” he said and left the room.
