S2- Winner in Life
When Maxime saw the old man lying in bed, his black eyes scanned the room a few times, realizing there was no one else. He then leaned over to the bedside with a cute smile. "You're my great-grandpa."
Magnus hadn't lied to him. He was practically his mini-me, looking so much like him when he was young. The old man looked at Maxime, his eyes reddening as he almost couldn't stop himself from crying.
"Great-grandpa, why are you lying in bed, not moving?" Maxime reached up to scratch his head and then seemed to realize something. "I know, great-grandpa is sick, just like mom, and has to rest in bed, right?"
"Little young master is so thoughtful. That's right, your great-grandpa is sick and can only rest in bed," the butler said, increasingly happy as he looked at the thoughtful child.
What a well-behaved little one.
"Mom says when you're sick, you need to rest and drink more water. Great-grandpa, you should drink more water and eat more so you can get better soon." Maxime leaned over the bed, looking at the old man seriously, speaking with the tone of an adult but in his cute little voice, making everyone's heart soften.
"Old master, look, little young master is so thoughtful," the butler said, his eyes reddening with emotion.
"His name is Maxime. Senna said she wouldn't stop your great-grandson from visiting you because you're family, connected by blood. I think Senna has forgiven you, and we've decided to hold the wedding as scheduled on the tenth," Magnus gently placed Maxime's little hand in the old man's, letting them hold hands.
The old man's eyes reddened too, and he hummed, seemingly wanting to say something.
Magnus gently patted his shoulder in understanding. "I know what you want to say. Don't worry. From now on, I'll bring Maxime to see you often. Senna is pregnant with another child. I hope it's a girl. With such a good wife and two children, I'm already a winner in life."
In his heart, he had never cared about power or wealth.
"Dad, why can't great-grandpa talk? He just hums?" Maxime curiously asked, even mimicking the old man's hum.
The butler was immediately touched, reaching out to pat his head with a sad smile. "Great-grandpa is sick and can't speak, little young master. Please encourage him. Once he gets better, he'll be able to talk."
"Then great-grandpa must have a sore throat, which is why he can't talk," Maxime thought seriously for a moment before suddenly turning around, grabbing the cup on the bedside table.
Seeing there was water inside, he ran back quickly, saying earnestly, "Great-grandpa, drink more water, and your throat will feel better, then you can talk."
"Old master, little young master is serving you water," the butler said, watching Maxime carefully holding the cup and offering it to the old man, deeply moved.
A tear of guilt slid down the old man's face as he drank the water his great-grandson offered him, deeply moved and unable to calm down.
He truly regretted the mistakes he made back then, when he had wrongfully assumed Senna was guilty and had harmed her.
Fortunately, she was strong and survived, and now he had this adorable, thoughtful great-grandson.
"Great-grandpa, don't be sad. You'll get better," Maxime said, seeing the old man's tears, and immediately reached up to wipe them away with a bright smile.
What a thoughtful child! It seemed Senna had raised him well. The old man felt comforted.
After visiting the old man, Magnus took Maxime back to Senna's side.
Maxime came back, chattering away, "Mom, turns out great-grandpa is sick too, like you, lying in bed. He's so pitiful. He can't move and can't talk. I fed him water, and great-grandfather even cried. He's so old, but he cried! It's so embarrassing... But I didn't make fun of him... He must have been really uncomfortable... that's why he cried..."
Listening to Maxime, Senna could imagine the scene. Even the most cold-hearted person would soften when seeing their descendants.
She looked at the man beside her, his expression gentle. "It seems the old man really likes Maxime."
"Of course. Maxime is his great-grandson. How could he not like him? And Maxime is so well-behaved. On his first meeting, he already knew to serve water to his great-grandpa. Truly a worthy Voss family descendant. Even at such a young age, he already has the bearing of someone from a noble family," Magnus said proudly.
Maxime immediately turned to look at him and asked happily, "Dad, were you praising me?"
"You're so well-behaved, of course, you should be praised." Magnus reached out to pick him up, feeling very happy inside.
"Wow, Mommy, listen, listen! Daddy praised me! I want the latest gaming console!" Maxime immediately excitedly shouted at Senna.
Senna's mouth twitched slightly. She had once promised Maxime that if anyone praised him, she would fulfill one of his requests. She never thought he would have such a good memory. Truly, he was worthy of being a member of the Voss family, calculating at such a young age.
"Gaming console? Do you want to get nearsighted? Mommy will buy you building blocks instead." Senna said.
"No, I want the gaming console! Mommy can't back out, I want the gaming console..." Maxime argued anxiously. He already had many sets of building blocks and had long grown bored of them.
"Once you've promised a child something, you can't go back on it. Maxime, don't argue. Daddy will represent Mommy and buy you the gaming console, okay?" Seeing that his son was on the verge of tears, Magnus immediately coaxed.
"Really? Daddy will really buy me the gaming console?" Maxime hugged Magnus's neck, his eyes shining with joy.
