Chapter 158 How Did Ethan End Up Here?

Chapter 158 How Did Ethan End Up Here?
Dazed, Miles took off his helmet.
He shoved open the door of the modified Ferrari and crawled out.
Today’s race was undoubtedly the worst moment of his racing career!
Furious, he flung his helmet to the ground and slumped down.
Ethan leaned back in his seat.
He rolled down the window and shot Miles a glance. “Kid, if you want to live, stay away from her!”
"If you've got the guts, give me your name!" Miles shouted.
He had always been a fighter, but this man was determined to trample the dignity he’d always prided himself on.
When the Ferrari flipped, his internal organs jolted violently.
He slowly sat up, wiped the blood from his forehead, and stared into the man’s icy blue eyes.
Even through the racing helmet, Miles could sense the murderous intent churning in the man’s eyes.
Ethan raised an eyebrow and let out a contemptuous chuckle.
Miles glanced at Lydia in the stands.
He thought for a moment, then asked, "You aren't that ex-boyfriend of Lydia's from St. Island, are you?"
Ex-boyfriend?
Had Lydia and James broken up?
When did that happen?
Was it the night they escaped from Mond Manor?
Ethan raised his hand to remove his helmet, revealing a strikingly handsome, mixed-race face that was so captivating it was impossible to look away.
The corners of his mouth curled up. “No, I’m her husband!”
Miles chuckled, not buying his words. "Lydia said she's single now!"
"She hasn't been fucked enough—she's already forgotten who her man is..." Ethan said coldly, narrowing his eyes.
Just as Miles was about to say something else, a bullet whizzed through the air, grazing the bridge of his nose as it flew toward the man across from him.
He rolled under the overturned Ferrari, scrambling to find cover.
His father was the boss of one of Harbor City’s three major triad organizations, so he’d been handling guns since he was a kid.
Miles drew the gun from his waistband, his entire body on high alert.
He glanced at the man who had humiliated him.
“Are you dead?”
“Don’t worry. I’ve taken more bullets than you’ve drunk glasses of water.”
Ethan jerked his head back to dodge the bullet, then rolled sideways into the passenger seat.
The bullet pierced the leather seat above his head, burning a hole that gave off a pungent odor.
The assailant was mingling with the racing team, and the gun was fitted with a silencer, so the shot was barely audible.
The fans hadn’t realized what had happened.
Ethan braced his elbow on the seat, arched his back, and rolled back into the driver’s seat.
He stepped on the gas, left the safety zone, and returned to the track.
While driving with his right hand, he drew his gun with his left hand and fired back out the window.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
A rapid barrage of gunfire erupted, striking the race car’s body and sending sparks flying.
“Oh no, we’ve been exposed!”
The man in the white Maserati’s expression darkened as he made a sharp turn, suddenly finding himself on the defensive.
"That madman Ethan is notorious for his marksmanship. We’ll all die here. Let’s get out of here!”
They turned around and fled.
“Weren’t you trying to assassinate me? Why are you running?”
Ethan jerked the steering wheel, slammed his foot down on the gas pedal, and gave chase, capitalizing on his momentum.
Chaos erupted on the racetrack.
The sound of cars crashing into one another rang out in rapid succession.
Leaking gasoline ignited in the gunpowder smoke, d transforming the bustling racetrack into a sea of fire.
"There's a shootout!"
"Run!"
The scene descended into chaos.
After running about a dozen steps, Lydia suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Miles’s car had just flipped over.
Was he alive or dead?
She turned and ran back toward the track.
“Miles?”
Lydia charged against the flow of people toward the scene of the crash.
She searched through the wreckage of Miles’s Ferrari.
“I’m here!”
Hearing her voice, Miles holstered his gun at his waist.
He slid nimbly out of the Ferrari’s cabin and sat up.
Lydia’s face was taut in the glow of the flames, and her usually clear eyes now betrayed a sense of unease.
"You're not dead? Thank goodness!”
She followed the sound to find him.
She kicked aside the smoldering remains next to Miles and helped him to a safe spot.
Miles glanced at her, holding his right hand.
A pale smile played at the corners of his mouth. “I didn’t die, but I broke a bone in my hand. And I failed."
Lydia pursed her lips as she looked at his hand. "Forget it. Let me help you to the hospital."
“Okay.” Miles nodded.
"Be careful!"
Lydia was about to help him walk away as he limped along.
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out from across the way.
“Someone picked him up. He got away.”
The sponsor hurriedly replied, "Rest assured, we've already called the police. We’ll definitely find out who attacked you.”
Ethan casually slipped off his racing gloves and tossed them into the fire with a look of disgust.
"Ethan?"
Lydia’s whole body froze, her heart pounding.
The terror was so intense that it felt as if her heart would leap out of her throat, leaving her gasping for breath.
How could Ethan be here?
