Chapter 96- You Liked My Brothers?
Asher stood to his feet at her accusations. He hated being put on the spot, “I have no idea of what you are talking about”, this was clearly a lie and Viola knew better than to let his escape with this,
“You know what I am talking about, Asher”, she stood to her feet as well and faced him head on, “If you were trained by Alpha Jax Montero, you will know this because I can remember him saying it times without number during training”,
“We did not train together”, Asher shrugged nonchalantly, he wasn’t ready to give her any kind of information and she had started to pry, making him quite uncomfortable- no one had ever been able to make him feel this way but somehow, she held the key and it annoyed him intimately.
“It doesn’t change that fact that we were trained by the same person”, she had him corned and clawing for an escape route out of all this, “So, tell me Asher. Again, why did you stop sleeping with her?”,
His inner annoyance surfaced and he turned to her with a scowl on his face and a snarl on his lips, “You do not get to question me, Beta”,
“It was because you did not want to hurt my feelings. Somewhere in that cold, empty space of your heart is a man of integrity, you just need help, Asher. Let me give it to you”, her heart felt words were awarded by laughter- humorless and dark showing her just how cold and empty he really was.
“You want to help me?”, she nodded, biting her lips nervously, “Get me Imogen back- even if it costs you your life- then you will show just how useful you are to me”, his words sent chills down her spine and her body quivered in hurt.
He didn’t mean that- she had to reassure herself as she breathed in and out, pushing down any unwanted negative emotion that wanted to resurface, “You’re just saying that”, she shrugged, “And believe it or not, I understand. You weren’t my first choice of a mate to begin with”, this caught every single bit of his attention and his ears visibly perked up, “Yes, for the longest time, I hoped that either Liam or Levi would be my mate because I was comfortable around them and they knew me like no one else did”,
“You liked my brothers?”, what was this absolutely irritating feeling in his chest? He didn’t like it one bit; it made him feel so vulnerable, so open and it felt like see could see beyond his whole façade.
And so, what? Maybe he wasn’t the complete asshole that everyone viewed him to be or maybe there was indeed something in that chest of his beating like every other person.
“Yes”, she admitted, sitting down on the bench, “And I’ll admit that I was crushed when I found out neither of them was my mate”, she pushed off her shoes and lifted her knees to her chin so she could bury her face in it, “Then I found out it was you, I almost died on the inside and honestly, I really didn’t want you since you were so happy with my sister and it would be extremely awkward and uncomfortable between us…”,
“What made you change your mind?”, he asked with narrowed eyes and furrowed eyebrows which depicted his curiosity,
She sighed and placed a large frown on her lips- a frown that could be mistaken for a snarl, “When she admitted that she knew you were my mate and yet, she went on with the relationship like it was nothing”, her frown left and was replaced with a blank expression, “It still pains me till today when I think about the fact that my own sister could do something like that to me without batting an eyelid”,
“Love can make you do some crazy things”, he shrugged. After this, silence reigned for a while before she stood up,
“It’s getting late, I should probably get going”, she spoke. Asher fished out his phone from his pocket and saw that it was almost two hours to midnight.
What?
He blinked multiple times in surprise, they had been there for more than four hours but it felt like a few minutes had just passed by. She was about to walk away when he stood up, “No, you should stay in the guest room”,
“Huh?”,
“As you said, it’s already late and there is a curfew, judging by the time, it’s way past it- for safety reasons, sleep here”, he spoke, surprising her even further.
“Okay?”, she said unsurely, “Thank you”, she had not been expecting this one bit and this act of his just proved her theory that Asher Montero was not as horrible as everyone thought he was. They re-entered the house and Asher locked the door behind them while Viola made her way to the lounge area.
She started up the stairs and noticed that he was not coming up, “You’re not going to bed?”, she questioned, uncertain as to whether he was going to answer her or not,
“Ummm”, he pressed his lips together in a thin line, “No, I’m going to do rounds round the pack”, he stated,
“Mind if I come with?”,
“No!”, he said quickly, he had had enough of her for one day- that scent, that sweet, sweet scent had him more than bothered and he could not even imagine how difficult it would be for him to spend an entire night alone with her in the woods, “No”, he said again but with less force than the first time, “You should get some sleep”, that was the last thing he said before walking away from her.
The next time Asher checked the time on his phone, it was two hours past twelve, which meant that it had been four hours since his conversation with Viola and he couldn’t stop thinking about it. Of course, there was so much she didn’t know and or understand but he was surprised by the bits she knew and how she was able to piece even the little things together- it showed that she was thoughtful; something ever born Luna possessed.
As much as he tried to push any topic in his mind relating to her down, he just couldn’t find it in him to do so. There was this voice in his head that just brought back that discussing and he just couldn’t seem to let it go- the talk was far from over and he was confused to say the least.
Honestly, yes, he felt a connection with her but somehow, that connection was not driving in the usual way the mate bond usually drove people in- sex and unconditional love. No, this bond made him feel like she was someone he could confide in, like someone he could trust with all his secrets and no matter what happens, she would not tell a soul- even if it was a life or death situation.
“Alpha!”, a guard suddenly rushed up to him and he immediately went into defense mode and was on full alert,
“What is it?”,
“A rogue was spotted inside the pack, we have a fatality”, Asher’s heart began racing quickly and nerves rushed up his body as he got ready to do the job he was born to do,
“Take me there”, both men ran towards the direction of the scene and were there in no time. From afar, Asher could see about two men trying to put a man that was almost twice their size down. Darian stood in front of them and by the looks of it, he was trying to question the man who was struggling to get out of their hold. At the other side of the clearing, he could see a battered body on the ground and it didn’t take a genius to know that that man was dead- it made Asher furious.
Without any heads up or announcement, he slammed into the man, ignoring any kind of pain that came from the force of the impact. His men immediately took a few steps back and allowed their Alpha pin the man down effortlessly, “You killed my pack member”, he sent a punch flying in the man’s direction before standing up and lifting the man with him and pinning him to a nearby tree, “You will answer me”, he spat, “Failure to do so will guarantee you a slow and painful death but if you comply, I will make it quick. How the fuck did you get into my pack?”,
“By passing through the borders”, the man smirked, his yellow teeth poking out from underneath his bloody lips Nand Asher wanted nothing more than to shatter every single one of them, maybe that would wipe the smirk off his face.
“Why are you here?”,
“Why do you think?”, Asher sent a slap to his face, telling him that that was the wrong answer, “I’m not telling you”, the man spat.
It was Asher’s turn to smirk, “I see you would like to do this the hard way”, he turned to three men who stood off at the corner, “Take him to the black room”, he turned back to the man, “I will drive you crazy till you are forced to tell me everything you know”.
As the men walked forward, his eyes widened in terror, “Wait!” the man spoke, “I’m not affiliated with Addilyn Villain or her groupies”,
“But you know about them?”, Asher pointed out and the man scoffed,
“Which rogue doesn’t know about them? That bitch goes to all the bars and boasts on how she’s going to take down all the packs”, the venom in his voice was unmistakable, clearly, he wasn’t her biggest fan.
“All?”,
“All. She says she wants to be Queen of the werewolves or something; she is not just insane but delusional. I personally hope she dies in a ditch somewhere”, he confessed, the man looked so genuine but Asher knew better than to trust a rogue- especially after he had killed his pack member.
“Take him to the dungeon and watch him”, he said to the guards, “I will decide if your story is authentic or not”.
