Chapter 98- Game Over.
Viola looked at the man intently, trying to recollect her old memories as she attempted to single out this man from her aunt's hoard of men. She stared at him and he stared at her, his features stone cold and emotionless. After almost ten minutes of looking at the man with narrowed eyes and furrowe eyebrows as she tried to place his face, a small frown fell onto her lips, "I recognize him", the man's body became rigid and it was only then that he tried once again to fight the men who held him down.
"Are you sure?", Asher asked, his eyes darkening rapidly as he thought of perfect ways to torture the man into speaking,
"Yes", she nodded, "But he is not part of Addilyn's group", she moved closer to the man and crouched down in front of him, "In fact, it is the opposite. This motherfucker right here might be a complete and total dick but he hates Addilyn more than anything. He has voiced out more than once that he thinks she is devil herself",
"Then why did he kill my pack member? He has to die for that, I cannot let him go scott free", Asher declared with a growl, this man had murdered a member of his pack! A guard for that matter- no! It was absolutely unaaceptable.
"Well", the man's greyish eyes met Asher's, "Guess where your so called pack member had been straying to lately?", everyone in the room anticipated the man's answer to his own question, everyone other than Asher. He did not want to believe that his pack member had betrayed him- he could not believe this man, he was a rogue! He wasn't to be trusted!
He shook his head, unable to even bear the thought of it, "No", he finally broke off eye contact with the man, "You are lying, it's not possible. He was a guard, he swore on his life, he promised the entire pack that he would give them his life! What could be more important than that?",
"His mate", Asher's heart skipped a beat and he felt his insides churn uncomfortably, "He was Addilyhn's mate",
"But he was so much younger than her? How is that possible?", Asher was still in denial, he couldn't believe... no, he didn't want to believe that any of this was indeed true. This rogue just had to be lying, there was no way this could possibly be true, right?
The man's eyes met Viola, "She's also a couple years younger than you, no?", Asher placed a frown on his face at the man's acknowledgement, "The moon goddess doesn't have any particular pattern of creating mates", he sighed, clearly, this man was wiser than he looked and extremely observant for him to have noticed immediately that Asher and Viola were mates.
"I don't believe in the Moon goddess", Asher said through gritted teeth in a rather harsh manner,
An eyebrow went up on the man's face in acquisition, "And you're an Alpha? That's a first?", the man pressed his lips together and gave Asher a judgemental glare, "Ever think that's the reason why she's punishing you?",
Asher could practically sense the judgement rolling off the man in waves- a rogue was judging him! How befitting! "I don't think that because I do not believe in her", he pointed out.
He let out a hum and narrowed his eyes at Asher, "And why don't you believe in her? Because she didn't give you what you wanted? Because she didn't head to your every request? I hate to break it to you kiddo, but that isn't how these things work. You can't just expect her to give things to you...", at his last sentence, Asher snapped, he could not take another word from this man because somewhere within him, he knew it was true but the major part of him yelled,
"Well, she has taken more than she has given! She ruined my life over and over again and has never given me a reason to worship her!", he always hated discussions that involved the moon goddess in anyways and always tended to avoid them- he wished for everyone to just leave him be with his dislike towards her. Even his pack members know to leave him out of occassions that involved her or to not taklk about her around him. Most of them understood that he for one had seen the bad hand of her and most times in their prayers, they used his case as a reference of what should not happen to them. Some of them judged him greatly for openly shunning her and her practices but he could not care less about those people- they hadn't been through half of what he had been through so they had absolutely no right to judge him.
"She gave you life",
"Which, at this point, I would gladly return to her if she asks for it", he confessed, forgetting that they weren't the only one in the room. He gained his resolve quickly and gave the man a harsh stare, "You do not get to question me! I will do the questioning", he wanted to forget about the discussion he had just had with the man but just like every other heated topic, it piled onto the other things he had to think about, increaing his frustrtion. "Who are you?",
"I believe your *mate* here has told you", Asher could not ignore the emphasis on the word, 'mate' and he snarled at the man,
"You know what I mean",
"My name, if that is what you're asking is Gerald, Fitzgerald and I was dropped from my pack almost twenty years ago", he said, "Before you ask me, no, I did not do anything bad. I was rogued because apparently, I was the weakest link of my pack. You see...", he went on, "Packs in Ireland that year decided that it would be a good idea to get rid of all the Omegas in their packs. Still think you have it bad now?", he directed to Asher, "I was immediately sent on my way with no remorse and soon after, hunters started to attack the packs, wiping them all out. We rogues were lucky to hear about this before hand so we were able to blend in and flea the country, all scattering to different places", he sighed, knowing his story was about to get emotional for him, "When I got here, I hoped to get a pack willing to accept me but none did for one reason or the other. An soon, I realized that as long as i have myself and the moon goddess to guide me, I do not need a bunch of people with a leader telling me what to do, that is why I will not allow Addilyn win, I refuse to let a bitch like her control me or tell me what to do". He bit on his lower lips, "Honestly, most of us feel this way. A great number of us left our packs because we do not want anyone bossing us around but with Addilyn, everything will change".
"Why haven't you all stopped her then?", Asher questioned,
"Because her men are too powerful", Gerald snapped, "Do you know how many times I have been beaten up because I said something that 'defames' her? All the other rogues are scared of her, which is why as we speak, she is able to gather more rogues to join her. If you can't beat them, be them- but the goddess forbid I do such a thing", he grunted, "Her numbers are growing stronger day by day and soon, she will be damn near unbeatable. If you want to strike, strike first when she least expects it, before she decides that she is ready. Because when she's ready...", he scoffed and glared directly into Asher's green orbs, "Game over".
"So, you are suggesting that we attack her before she can attack us?", Asher asked and wondered how he had not seen that as an option earlier,
"Yes", the man nodded,
Oh, yes. Asher remembered the reason why that plan could have never even surfaced in his brain, "There is just one little issue with that plan; we do not know where she is",
"Yes, I also haven't seen her in a while as well, just a couple of her men who wouldn't shut up about the attack", the man agreed,
"Have they ever mentioned a date?", Asher inquired attentively,
The man shook his head, "No, I do not recall them saying a date. The damn idiots were quite quiet about that one, they know what to talk about and what not to", the man sighed, "I'm thinking you can get some of your men to disguise as rogues and go to the bar so they can follow the men back to their base- it will be dangerous and only your stealthiest men should be allowed to go on this mission. You should need only three, more than that is a crowd and it will make them suspicious as we rogues do not move in crowds".
"How will they fit in?", Asher was liking this man's idea but he was not sure that he could fully trust him, for all he knew, he could be walking into a damn trap,
"Your men took a bag of clothes from me, they have my scent and they are washed in Wolfsbane, it should be able to throw them off you guys", the man said, "You should not go with them... I knew you were thinking about it and you shouldn't because it can jeopardize the entire plan. As an Alpha, your aura is too strong and everyone would feel it once you walk in- it's a recipe for disaster", Asher nodded in understanding then turned to Darian,
"Are you up for it?", his Beta nodded his head in determination, "Choose two men you trust with your life, I wish you luck and success".
