Chapter 99- A Little Fun Never Hurt Anybody.

A few hours had past since Darian and the two men had left the pack on their mission and Asher had been growing impatient and angsty. His instincts were screaming at him that this was most definitely a set up and that he should have followed them while another part of his told him to trust and believe this man- a rogue.

Never in a million years would he have believed that he was going to be receiving advice or tips from a rogue- it made him wonder just how low he had hit, how deep was his rock bottom? And to what lengths would he go to just to find a girl who abandoned him and broke their promise- a promise she made them make.

Tired of pacing aimlessly and ignoring Viola, Liam and Levi who stared at him like a mad man on steroids, he headed straight for the door and turned to them. As he expected, they were already on their feet and ready to follow him, “Don’t follow me”, he ordered, his eyes showing seriousness and telling them that this was not arguable or debatable.

He pushed the handle open and walked out of his home, shutting the door behind him. He headed straight for the trap door that led to his underground dungeon. He marched furiously to the man’s cell, unlocked the lock and pulled the door open, throwing the chains unto the floor. Three strides and he was standing in front of the man, towering over him- eyes boring into his like a raging lunatic.

Before the man could even comprehend or ask what was happening, Asher lifted him up by the neck and pinned him harshly against the wall, a sickening crack echoing off the walls, “Why on earth did you do that?”, the man looked confused, did something happen?

“I’m giving you a preview of what will happen if this turns out to be a set up or something happens to my men. I will give you death but it will be so slow and painful, you would wish you stayed in Ireland and got killed by hunters”, he dropped the man, allowing him to wheeze as he took air into his lungs after having his airflow restricted and without another word Asher left the cell and relocked it.

Now that he had gotten that out of his system, his vision became clearer and he finally felt like he was somewhat free, although, he refused to let his guard down, especially since he was down in the dungeons. On his way back out, he noticed Valkry in his cell and couldn’t help but wonder…

He took a deep breath before moving over to the man’s cell, “Valkry”, Asher called out, searching for him in the darkness of his space. In the dungeons, all powers and gifts a limited which is hard but very compulsory to reduce fatalities- some prisoners were just crazier than the others. “Valkry!”, Asher called again, knowing that the man could hear him. Valkry enjoyed playing games which was something Asher did not have the time or luxury for. “Valkry!!!”, his voice was stern and commanding this time and slowly, the man emerged from the darkness, a smirk evident on his face.

“Well, hello old friend”, Valkry still had that mischievous smirk on his lips and glint in his eyes- something he couldn’t bring himself to miss in his friend, “You did not introduce me to your brothers, that’s not what we discussed a few years ago now, was it?”,

“That was when I thought you were a good person Val, but you showed me otherwise when you hypnotized my girlfriend!”, Asher spat, glaring at the man he once saw as a brother.

Valkry rolled his eyes, “A little fun never hurt anybody”,

“You almost had me killed!”, his voiced had so much venom in it and it killed him,

“And I apologized for that, didn’t I?”, he shrugged it off as if it were nothing. Asher gave him an incredulous look and shook his head,

“You are crazy”, Valkry’s smirk faded away and deep scrawl was there to replace it, he looked at Asher scornfully,

“Well, if you won’t look at the pot calling the kettle black”, Valkry scoffed, “What the fuck are you even doing here Asher? You’ve abandoned me here for more than five years and have ignored my existence up until today, what the hell do you want?”.

Asher knew he was going to regret saying his next few words but what else did he have to lose after he had practically already lost it all? His pride? His dignity? That all left the moment he decided to cry like a fucking baby in front of his parents.

“I need your powers?”, Asher admitted,

“My powers?”, Valkry was taken aback, the last time Asher had asked him to use his powers was when they were a bit younger. Their fathers had been good friends and yes, once upon a time, this monster facing Asher was once a good man but he had lost his way when his father passed away.

“Yes, I need you to read me”,

“Why would I?”, Valkry folded his arms over his chest and cocked an eyebrow up, “Why should I?”,

“Because you owe me that much after what you did! I’m just thinking about the what ifs Val and I am dreading it, what if I hadn’t woken up the time I did? What if you were unable to break the spell? What if you never broke the spell? What if… so many fucking what ifs!”, he practically yelled. He moved closer and held unto the bars tightly, the force of his hold bending the metal slightly,

“Fine, let us call it even. I help you and you take two years off my sentence”, Val proposed,

“That’s barely even but done”, that was how desperate Asher was, he was ready to set his prodigal friend free just so he could know what the future held for him. “You should be able to read me in here”,

“It wouldn’t be as strong as outside”, Asher gave him a warning glare, he knew that taking Val outside would be the worst decision he could ever make and he wasn’t up for it, he could not go on another wild goose chase- not right then when he had a ton of things on his plate to worry about. “Fine”, Val sighed, “Bring your hand”,

Asher was skeptical, he did not trust Val for even a second, “Don’t try anything funny”,

“I’m inside a dog cage that hinders my powers and makes me almost completely useless, I’m quite certain you have nothing to worry about, now bring your damn hand”, Asher reluctantly slid his hand through the bars, Val tugged it towards him in a rough manner and all at once, Asher could feel a rush of energy shoot through his body- this lasted for about a minute until Val dropped his hand, “You’re going to lose what you value the most”.

Asher was recollecting himself but paused and looked up at him, “That’s it? Bullshit!”,

“First of all, my powers are not at their peak here and second of all, I can’t just spill everything to you, the future is a mystery that you have to create yourself. Plus, its against the code”,

“What fucking code?”, Asher screamed into the man’s face,

“The soothsayer’s code! Yes, I’ve seen it all but I’ve told you what I can- you are going to lose the things you value the most”, he shrugged,

“Things? As in plural?”, Val nodded and Asher was about to throw a fit when one of his men came into view, “Alpha, the Beta is back”,

“And the other two men?”, the guard shook his head and Asher’s eyes widened before he turned to Val, “I made you a promise and I would not go back on it, your sentence has been reduced”. Asher followed hurriedly behind the man until they got to the house where Darian paced frantically, “What happened?”, Asher asked once he reached his Beta.

“Her men ambushed the two men I was with- I was in the trees while they were on the ground, I was able to follow them to their hiding space. Imogen is with them”, Darian breathed out,

“She is?”, Asher felt relief wash over him, “We should get moving now, we have to save her”. The look that crossed his Beta’s face was the most confusing thing he had seen all day

“She is with them… but not in the way you think, Asher. Not in the way we all thought”, a tear fell from Darian’s eye but he quickly wiped it off, “She is one of them, Imogen is working alongside Addilyn”.

Asher could not believe his ears! Not for a second, minute or even an hour, “No”, he shook his head in denial, “No, she was taken, we have the proof that she was ambushed on the way”,

“I’m sorry Asher”, Darian shook his head, “That was all a fluke to throw us off, Imogen is with Addilyn right now as we speak working to bring our pack down”.

Asher felt his entire world crash down on him and he immediately fell unto his knees, “You’re lying! You are a liar”, he accused,

“Why on earth would I lie on my sister?”, it was then Asher realized that this was also hard for Darian, he had just seen his sister betray her entire pack with his own eyes,

“There is something wrong somewhere, this cannot be possible. I know Imogen, she would never do something like this to me”, Asher still could not believe what was happening and he knew through and through that Imogen was not capable of betraying him, not to talk of the entire pack. “We will regroup and leave the next full moon”.

“That’s in three days”, Darian was visibly uneasy, “I am going there now!”,

“Why are you in such a hurry?”, Asher asked him, as much as he wanted to storm over there right that second, he knew he had a lot to think about. Was putting the rest of the pack in danger over Imogen who was possibly a traitor a good idea?

“Because my mate is with them!”, Darian yelled,

“But I thought you went with two men…”, he took one look at Darian and his eyes widened in realization, “Oh shit”.
