Chapter 91. The Bad Dream Consenquence
A dispute that shouldn't have happened has now broken out. Pearl got more stressed and in pain. She was also scared because she thought her brother would fight with Taggart. The doctor who was in the room was forced to throw everyone out. Keith didn't back down and wasn't afraid at all. When he was escorted to the VIP waiting room, he faced Taggart bravely. Damian also stood by Keith's side to defend him. This time, Keith requested that his younger brother be transferred to St. Mary Elizabeth Hospital.
“I want to take my sister as I clearly said. I've called St. Elizabeth, and they are willing to help.” Keith asked breathlessly, holding back anger.
"What? It will not happen!" Taggart angrily and furiously refused.
"I'm not asking you to be responsible for her anymore." Keith pointed at Taggart tensely without fear.
"Mr. Rosenthal, please stay calm," one of the doctors tried to persuade an annoyed Keith. Damian also disliked Taggart's attitude, forbidding Keith to be close to his little sister. But so far, he hasn't spoken.
“I won't make a scene if you guys let go of my sister,” Keith answered, then glared at the doctor.
“I'm not holding back your sister. She is being treated, and she will be having surgery this afternoon!” Taggart is still arguing without wanting to back down. Keith shook his head.
“I don't allow it. I'm her family. You should have asked for my consent!”
Taggart widened his eyes in disbelief. He lunged forward as if he was going to attack Keith. Everest immediately grabbed him to prevent him from doing something stupid that he would regret.
"Sir, no!"
“Don't even think about taking her away from me. I won't let anyone take Pearl away from me. She is mine!" Taggart growled and threatened.
Tamara immediately stepped forward to calm Taggart and Keith. She interrupts well, using her skills to make the men submit.
“We can discuss all this fairly. Please do not take any action that only caused harm to you. If you can't sit down and talk, the hospital has the right not to permit you both to see Pearl Rosenthal."
Taggart and Keith both turned to Tamara, who was calm in the face of their anger. Taggart glared, but with her attitude, Tamara could subdue him well. Taggart was finally willing to sit down and discuss things with Keith, even if he was cranky.
“We're just going to talk about Pearl Rosenthal's interests here.” Tamara turned to Keith, who became a mediator regarding Keith and Taggart's poor communication. Both insisted on not giving in.
“Mr Rosenthal, I am a psychiatrist. My name is Tamara Lopez. I have read your sister's record and discussed it with the attendings. Miss Pearl needs surgery immediately. We have scheduled it for today, this afternoon,” Tamara said to Keith in a good manner.
“I know that my sister's condition is very serious. But I'm sorry, I can't allow her to undergo surgery at this hospital," Keith refused. He still looked tense even though he didn't raise his voice.
"Why?"
“I don't feel like she's safe.”
“She is safe here. This hospital is highly secure.” Tamara tried to give an excuse. Taggart was already restless in his place and wanted to interrupt immediately. Unfortunately, he hasn't had the chance to speak.
"No. I demand to take her to St. Elizabeth, so I just talk to them. I'm sure they'll agree.”
“There was nothing urgent to happen for the transfer.”
“Even so, I just want to take good care of my little sister. My father is being treated at St. Elizabeth, and I think my sister should be there too.”
Tamara took a deep breath and then turned to the chief surgeon, who was also listening to the discussion. He took a deep, regretful breath.
“How about she will be transferred to St. Elizabeth after her surgery?” Tamara suggested. Taggart immediately responded loudly.
“No! That can't happen. Pearl cannot be taken out of this hospital at all. I beg to differ."
“I don't care if you agree or not. She's not your wife!" said Keith, interrupting and glaring.
“She’s not your sister either!”
The whole room fell silent at their shocking accusation. The tense atmosphere was even more pronounced because Taggart accidentally mentioned Pearl Rosenthal's biological family relationship.
"What?" Tamara turned in surprise at Taggart. Taggart also looked at her but with a slightly odd expression.
“Don't talk nonsense, Taggart Kellent. Of course, Pearl is my sister. Do I need a DNA test to prove it to you?” Keith responded by mocking Taggart. Although Keith now has doubts about his blood relationship with Pearl. But that doesn't mean he will accept it without investigating it.
“But you, you are just her boss. Nevertheless, you have no right to keep my sister here any longer." Keith added a bad impression of Taggart. This will make Taggart even more unbearable, and they could do something stupid.
"What did you say?" Taggart growled in annoyance. His hands clenched into fists.
“I will take her away. If you get in my way, I will take this to the police. You won't be able to silence me!” Keith added to his threat. Tamara couldn't have done more. She had to talk to Keith so the man wouldn't sue the hospital and Taggart.
Unfortunately, Taggart doesn't seem to care. He kept protesting, as Tamara spoke to him.
“He's her brother. We can't go against family ties, Tagg. Legally, he won,” Tamara explained to Taggart after pulling him to the corner of the room.
"What? No! I already said I wouldn't let Pearl go. She can’t leave me. She is injured and needs surgery!” Taggart adamantly refused to accept.
"I know. But we can't fight him. If her legal guardian doesn't permit us, there's no way that we could do the operation. It will be illegal.” Tamara explained. He approached, holding Taggart's arms and coaxing him well.
“What if she transferred to St. Elizabeth, and we request access to keep an eye on her? It’s much better than getting a lawsuit.”
In a different corner of the same room, Damian approached Keith. Keith stared intently at Tamara and Taggart, who were seriously discussing the situation.
“I hate to say this, but you'd better move Pearl out of here immediately. I agree with that decision.” Keith turned to Damian, who was half whispering to him. He then faced himself.
“You're not Pearl's boyfriend, are you?” Keith asked curtly. Damian held back his smile, pursed his lips, and nodded.
“I love her, but someone took her from me.” Keith frowned, then turned to Taggart. As if asking for clarity, he pointed at Taggart.
"You mean him?"
"Yes. Taggart is obsessed with her. he kept me away from Pearl and did anything, even if it was to kill me.” Keith turned again to Damian. Damian looked serious. Keith sucked more air into his lungs. He could feel that Damian wasn't lying. Keith himself knows that Taggart is a dangerous, possessive man.
Meanwhile, Taggart still hasn't accepted the consequences of keeping Pearl in the hospital any longer. He refused to let Pearl be transferred.
"What if we ask Pearl?" Tamara suggested that Taggart soften up.
“She doesn't know what she’s going to decide. Pearl only just regained consciousness after she was found. She must be confused in making a decision.” Taggart dodged it by making up a new excuse.
“But hospitals still have to respect the patient's wishes, in whatever state they are. We should not forbid her if she wants to move to another hospital. Moreover, her family does it.”
Taggart took a long, heavy breath. Although there was nothing to support his decision now, he still shook his head and refused.
“Tagg, I can't help you if you don't take it. This is a serious issue regarding law and legality.”
“I don't care about that!” Taggart said stubbornly.
“You have to care. This hospital is yours. Its reputation will be counted on you if you don't solve it. Don't think about just yourself. Think about all the doctors who work here. They should not have to take the consequences.”
Taggart took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He was very afraid of losing Pearl, and his anxiety increased after last night's dream.
“We'll ask Pearl. I'm sure she wants the operation done in my place." Tamara finally smiled. She nodded in understanding and then stroked the side of Taggart's arm to calm him.
"Don't worry, I will support you."
After agreeing, they finally met Pearl. Pearl was very anxious after the Keith Taggart debate. As soon as he approached, she grabbed Keith's hand, while Taggart could only frown as if he had been abandoned.
“Miss Pearl, we have a little discussion with you.” The chief surgeon took his position next to Pearl to explain what had happened.
“Mr Keith Rosenthal wants to move your operations to St. Elizabeth Hospital. He reasoned that your father was there and you wanted to be close to your family.” Pearl turned quickly to Keith, who smiled and took her hand. Keith leaned closer and stroked Pearl's head.
"Don't be afraid; I won't leave you," Keith whispered softly. Pearl looked sad, then looked at Taggart, who was also disappointed.
