Chapter 90. One More Day

Taggart only watched as Pearl underwent an examination. She had to undergo surgery to repair her broken ribs. It felt like Taggart was getting even sadder. He had been out of work during Pearl's missing. Moreover, after the found her, Taggart never left her side to get back to the Excellor.

"Sir, the doctor wants to talk to you," Everest reports to Taggart, who is still watching Pearl. Taggart just nods. He goes out with Everest to see a doctor. There are three doctors and Tamara in the room. Tamara smiles at Taggart as he enters.

“Mr Kellent, we have completed the examination for Miss Rosenthal. The operation will be carried out this afternoon. The recovery period will begin two weeks before Miss Rosenthal begins therapy. She can't walk yet, but her response is increasing.” The doctor who treated Pearl gave his report to Taggart. Taggart nodded in understanding.

“I leave everything to you. Give my girlfriend the best treatment. I don't want any mistakes." Taggart made known his wish. The doctors nodded. Tamara approached and smiled.

“I have put myself as a shrink for Miss Rosenthal. Don't worry, I will handle it well," said Tamara kindly. Taggart nodded.

"Thank you."

Everest just watched silently. Next, the doctors explained the surgical procedure they would perform on Pearl. Meanwhile, Damian arrives at the hospital downstairs. Damian received information that Pearl was at The Kellent Center. He had to meet Pearl and see how she was doing immediately. Even though his plan failed, Damian felt it was important to visit her. There was a feeling he couldn't explain about Pearl.

Carrying a bouquet, Damian entered the elevator. He pressed the close button, but a hand reached out to stop the door from closing. A man entered the elevator, slightly out of breath. It was like he was chasing the elevator before it closed.

“Thank you,” the man said to Damian. Damian just watched indifferently out of the corner of his eye. He didn't care and looked back at the front. The elevator went up, and they both came out on the same floor. Damian casually walked over, and the man with him in the elevator walked in the same direction as him. The man had stopped asking the nurse something. Damian also stopped when he heard the man say Pearl's name.

“Pearl Rosenthal, VIP room?” Keith asked where the VIP room he was looking for was.

Damian turned back and frowned. He had never seen the man before. The nurse gave Keith directions, and Damian walked over to him.

"Hey!" Keith stopped, then turned back.

“Are you looking for Pearl Rosenthal?” Keith widened his eyes. he nodded spontaneously.

“I'm her brother. My name is Keith Rosenthal. Who are you?" Keith slightly pointed at Damian. Damian smiled and stretched out his hand.

“My name is Damian Bronckhorst. I am Pearl's boyfriend.” Keith's brows suddenly furrowed.

"What?" he answered in a slightly squeaky voice. Damian was still smiling as if nothing had happened to the surprise he had just given.

“We’re just dated.” Damian lied while smiling. Keith shook his head quickly, not believing Damian's words at all.

“I knew no one would believe it. Never mind, let me take you to her room. I want to go there too. I just came back; I stayed here last night." Damian told more lies. The problem is that Keith doesn't know anything about his sister's condition after being kidnapped. However, Keith just kept quiet and followed Damian. Damian brought flowers, and he knew where Pearl's treatment room was. That means Pearl knows Damian well.

When Damian arrived in the corridor of Pearl's room, he stopped. Damian looked back and smiled at Keith. Keith still looked tense, but this time, he was confused.

"Wait here." He ordered briefly. Keith looked at Damian blankly and then spoke to several men guarding him.

"Who's he?" Keith's mind wondered about Damian.

"I want to see Pearl," Damian spoke in a low tone to the bodyguard guarding the room.

“Miss Pearl is having breakfast.” Damian smiled wider.

"It's good. That means I can come in, right?”

“Mr. Bronckhorst,”

“I just wanted to see her. You know who I am, right?"

The two bodyguards then turned to each other. Before long, they gave permission. Damian then took Keith inside. Pearl was having breakfast while half lying down. When she saw Keith, Pearl widened her emotional smile. She called Keith, who also looked very moved to meet Pearl.

“Oh, my sweetheart!”

“Keith!”

Keith immediately approached and hugged Pearl as gently as possible. Pearl also hugged Keith and shed tears. Keith smiled and was moved to tears. Both hands held Pearl's cheeks and asked how she was doing.

"What happened to you? Oh my God," Keith was suddenly so sad when he saw the wounds on Pearl's body. Pearl was still crying while smiling.

"I'm fine," Pearl answered softly.

"Who did this to you?" Keith half growled. He couldn't bear to see Pearl in so much pain and suffering.

“I'm fine. Don't worry." Pearl did not want to name the party responsible for the crime that happened to her.

Damian saw and heard it all. At first, he resigned and would apologize to Pearl if she accused him. However, the opposite happened.

“Pearl?”

Damian interrupted Pearl, who was embracing Keith. He turned to Damian and widened his smile.

“Damian,” Pearl called Damian. Damian approached with a smiling face. He handed over the flowers he had brought to her.

“I'm sorry,” Damian whispered. She let go of Keith and held Damian's hand. Damian tried to hug, and Pearl also did the same as Keith.

Keith still stared flatly at Damian. He wasn't sure if Pearl had a close relationship with him.

"I'm fine."

Damian nodded slowly, stunned. He noticed Pearl's injuries. His heart ached for that. He knew that Pearl didn't deserve this kind of treatment.

“How did you guys get here?” Pearl asked the two. Keith's gaze shifted to Damian.

“I have to find you, Sweetheart. You were missing.” Keith spoke with teary eyes. Pearl nodded slightly.

"Who did kidnap you?" Keith asked again. Damian managed to glance at Keith. He released Pearl's grip on him and distanced himself a little.

"I don't know," Pearl answered with a sad look.

"Did they rob you?" Pearl took a deep breath and then shook her head.

“I don't know what they want. They said they robbed me to operate on me. I don't know, I was really scared." Pearl started to tell the story even though her voice was very low. She whispered and still sounded scared. Damian frowned, then looked away. His father had gone too far by holding and torturing Pearl. This time, Damian didn't approve of his actions at all.

"What operation?" Keith frowned even more.

“They're talking about selling organs.”

Keith and Damian were both shocked, especially Keith, who immediately became angry. Taggart should have been able to protect Pearl, but the opposite happened.

"What? Have you spoken to the police about this?” Pearl shook her head.

"I do not dare." Pearl was still whispering.

“This, Taggart, should be the one protecting you. Why is this happening?”

The door to the room opened, and the group of doctors and Taggart came inside. Taggart was shocked to see Keith and Damian in the room. Keith immediately turned around and stared at Taggart sharply.

"You? Why are you here?” Taggart immediately walked quickly towards Damian. Damian straightened his back and took a safe step back, but it was Keith who grabbed Taggart's arm.

“You have to take responsibility for all of this. How did you escape?” Keith scolded Taggart relentlessly. Taggart frowned, and now his attention turned to Keith. Meanwhile, Damian took the position of just silently watching.

"What do you mean?" Taggart replied in a displeased tone.

“You're the one who's supposed to protect Pearl. You said that she was your future wife. But you let bad things happen to her!”

“I don't understand what you are talking about. I am protecting Pearl,"

"Where is the proof? Look where she is now. She is suffering because of you!” Keith pointed at Taggart's face, which angered him. Taggart widened his eyes, and it felt like he was going to explode, crushing Keith. Keith was already looking for trouble with him. Everest and a doctor now held Taggart. Debate is inevitable.

Pearl tried to speak, but she couldn't move much. As a result, Pearl was in pain, and Damian took his chance well. Tamara just watched at the end of the room. He then approached and held Pearl, thinking about helping her.

"Sir, please stay back." A doctor warned Keith.

"I was the one who saved her!" Taggart answered again, although with high tension. Keith is annoyed with Taggart. He cannot accept that Pearl has experienced torture and human trafficking.

“Are you blind? My little sister almost died because of that. They are going to sell her organs!”

Taggart stopped writhing to escape. He frowned when he heard this. A doctor holds Keith. He jerked away the doctor's hand and then pointed at Taggart.

“I will never take your and Pearl's marriage. Stay off of my sister and don't bother her anymore!"
