Chapter 27
Vlad
“Meet me at the pack house Nica,” I grunt and ended the call, and dropped the phone.
‘Xy.’ I called through the mind link.
‘Call a meeting with the elders immediately!’ I growled.
‘Alright, Alpha. I will arrange a meeting with them immediately.’
I sighed and turned towards another direction, that led to the pack house. I got down immediately after I arrived at the house, slammed the car door nosily, and marched down to the house.
“What’s going on?” I asked to meet with the elders, who were seated in the meeting room in the pack house.
“Alpha.” They stood up from the seat and greeted me when I came in.
I waved at them dismissively and ordered them to seat down.
“You asked for a meeting Alpha.” The chief elder Richard began.
“We want to know what the urgent meeting was about.”
I settled down in an easy chair in front of the elders.
“I think you already know about the meeting, you know Veronica is already in the pack as of now and probably be on her way here now.”
They shifted uncomfortably in their seat and then cleared their throats.
“I don’t need to tell you then why I had set such a meeting at this time.”
“Alpha.” Richard's voice came up again.
“You need a Luna and we have been waiting for a long time now and we think it’s time Veronica is a good fit and it would be perfect for the pack if she becomes the Luna. Think of the possibility of things that would happen to the pack once both strong packs merged, Alpha.” Richard said with so much confidence and a majority of the elders nodded in agreement to his words.
“You ignored the words of your Alpha when I said I wanted to postpone the wedding till a month and did what you deemed fit!” I shouted at them.
“You went behind my back and fix a date for the wedding with the elders of Veronica’s pack and made her come to the pack without my notice. I should have as well left the affairs of the pack to you then.” I snarled, my anger rising further and I was restraining my wolf from coming.
“We think it was appropriate for us to take that decision, as you have said...” Richard stood up and was standing in the middle of us. He glanced at me and then at the elders that were seated.
“That you are after the affairs of the pack, we have to take action with your Luna and give you the best choice which is Veronica. You couldn’t allow yourself to postpone it. There’s no reason why you choose to postpone the wedding when the seat of the Luna is vacant.”
“Yes...yes.”
“Exactly my thoughts.”
“Perfectly said, elder Richard.”
The elders murmured in the room and their voices became louder as they argued among themselves.
I lift my hand and they stopped talking and had their eyes fixed on me.
“I would not let you force a Luna on me.”
“I disagree Alpha, we are not forcing a Luna on you. We agreed some months ago and you agreed that Veronica was a perfect choice for you and the pack. So we did not force a Luna on you and we would not do that Alpha.” Richard counted and the elders agreed to him.
“I stand by what I said, I won’t take a Luna now,” I growled at them.
“Why, Alpha?” Richard asked searching my face for answers.
I could not tell them about Samara, they won’t accept her and her stay in the pack has been a secret.
We didn’t know that it would take so long to find the triplet and whoever had taken them was playing a game with us.
“I’m not yet ready to take a Luna.”
“You don’t have to be ready Alpha, you can find love after marriage but we can no longer leave the Luna spot empty Alpha and you know that. If it has been that we were waiting for you mate it would have been understandable but there’s no mate, Alpha Vlad.” Richard muttered with a stern face, he looked more confident that he was winning against me.
I don’t want to take Veronica yet as the Luna. It wasn’t because she was a perfect choice for the pack, she was one.
But I would never have been reluctant if Samara never came.
“There has to be a reason you’ve been opposing getting married to Veronica, what is it Alpha there had been an anonymous report that you have a mistress,” Richard stated disapprovingly.
I scoffed and stood up from the chair, I was wondering why Veronica wasn’t here yet.
“A mistress? I think you know me more than that, elders. I would only get married to Veronica in a month or never. If you think you can do whatever you did again, then you might have to consider marrying her for yourself!” I thundered furiously.
“Alpha.”
“We are sorry for going behind you, we thought it was for the benefit of the pack.” Solomon, one of the elders spoke up.
“Do not go against my orders and we only planned to do what we have discussed here in this room not what you’ve discussed with yourself! I would have to ask Nica to go back to her pack.”
Murmurs filled the room, the voices erupt in disapproval of my words. I glared at each of them, waiting for them to look into my face and tell me directly that they were against my words.
“It’s only natural for her to come and stay with you and get to know each other before the wedding. She might in turn would get to know about our pack and our people. Isn’t that a better approach?” Richard spoke again, he seem to have every word spoken prepared.
He must have been preparing for this day which he had to go against me.
“I still won’t go through with it.”
“Yet you have refused to tell us the reason why you are against, Veronica in the pack,” Solomon responded.
“And what if I decide not to go through with you, would you stop me?” I questioned staring at each of their faces.
“That would bring nothing but humiliation in the pack and to you. Alpha, you might end up ruining the reputation you have gotten over the years and I don’t think that’s a wise thing for you to do.
The pack needs a Luna, the pack needs an heir, aside from the other troubles we have in the pack we need to have that, Alpha because it is what completes us.” Richard remarked vehemently. He turned and had his dark eyes fixed on my face.
“We have been around this before that’s why we had an arranged married between you and Veronica.” His voice was calm.
I said nothing now, I did not know how I was going to break the news to them that I have a son, they would want evidence that the child is me and Samara would go through a lot at the hands of the elders and her identity would be known to the pack.
They won’t accept her as Luna, Samara once killed a wolf it was one of the reasons she flee from the pack.
I don’t want her to go through that trauma again and I don’t think it would be inevitable now that she has the heir of Crimson Pack.
“What do you have to say, Alpha? We know we would always listen to your word.” Solomon Interjected. Richard muttered a few words which I didn’t hear, I wasn’t ready to listen to what he was saying either.
I stepped closer to the rest of the elders, studying their faces and taking every expression they had.
“I’m after the affairs of the pack as well, that was why the past seven years of my life had been dedicated to the pack, and not once did I do against what y’all have asked me to. I did exactly as you told me and led the pack the best I can.”
“Yes, Alpha. You’ve been doing so well, you’re one of the best Alphas.” Solomon countered and the others nodded approvingly.
“So why now you can’t listen to the one thing that I have asked? The assassin wolves that were sent to the pack we haven’t found them yet. What makes you think I have a Luna they won’t come back for her.”
They fell silent and after a moment has passed whispered between themselves.
“I had a second thought, I don’t want what happened before to happen again, hence I have decided.” I stepped back and stared at Richard whose eyes were fixed on me.
“I won’t get married to Veronica for now.” I went back to sit on the chair.
“That’s not going to happen, Vlad!” Veronica’s loud voice broke through the silence.
