143 Have to leave
His thoughts seemed to come to life as he git buried in them the next instant after he left the room. Caiden instinctively left the building, having retained all of Kamara's words. When he noticed Bruno was waiting for him outside, he gave him the order to get the pack doctor.
Whom could he trust to remove Kamara from that situation? Caiden felt alone for the first time in a long time. Nate was missing, Enzo was no longer his friend, and Jessie had betrayed him. At that moment, the children's smiles engulfed him as their tiny arms seized him around the waist.
"Where did you go?" He knelt to examine them more closely.
"Grandma and I were playing in the square." Kyler gestured to Caiden's left, where she was seated on a bench beneath a tree's canopy.
"Remaining here is no longer safe for you." The lads were surprised by what Caiden had said. "You have to swear to me that you will be brave and take care of your mother going forward because I have something very serious to tell you."
"Dad, what are you trying to say?" Sterling sensed that a terrible event was going to happen.
"Kamara sustained severe injuries." The boys got upset as tears welled up in their eyes. "There is someone close to me attempting to hurt her."
Caiden halted Sterling as he went towards the building before he could continue.
"You must remain composed."
The youngster said to his father, "I want to go and see her, dad." as tears ran down his cheeks.
Caiden said, wiping tears from his eyes, "I will let you, but first you need to hear what I have to say."
Before he could say anything further, Caiden drew a long breath.
"You will regrettably have to depart." Four weeping lads gathered Caiden at this point. "I'm very sorry, but you have to leave the pack."
"But, Dad, I don't want to go."
With his face buried in Caiden's shoulder, Noah asked, "Is there any other way to solve this?"
He grasped Noah's face and forced him to look at him, saying, "There isn't and it's for both Kamara's and your protection. I assure you that it will only last briefly."
However, the boys were at a loss for words. Sterling's look was shuttered, as though he didn't agree with it at all. Noah disagreed with all that Caiden said, and Kyler and Lucas appeared scared of what might happen.
Caiden extended his hand to embrace Sterling.
He looked at them and said, "You need to promise me that you'll take care of Kamara. I will always be there to visit you; this is not goodbye."
When the four boys gave him hugs, Caiden's vulnerability returned. He stood up and led them into the structure.
"Go now and stay with her until I get back," he said, releasing them.
While Sterling remained motionless and stared at him, he witnessed Lucas, Kyler, and Noah dash inside. The boy recognized Caiden's choice. He was comfortable knowing that they would not see Jessie again, even though he was aware of the risks they were taking by staying there. He had promised Nate something, and Sterling thought he would come through on it, so much as he wanted to tell Caiden the whole truth. Furthermore, he turned to face Caiden again and gave him an even stronger hug.
"Dad, I love you."
With closed eyes, Caiden took Sterling in his arms.
"Sterling, I love you and your brothers too." He gave the youngster another cheek kiss before letting him go.
He watched Sterling bolt up the steps and out of sight. The knowledge that they would be heading out once more caused his chest to ache. Furthermore, he found Jessie when he turned to go after staring at the empty stairs for a few seconds.
The alpha's facial expression abruptly changed. His eyes went dark and frigid. His wolf snarled, wanting to rip her apart. "Caiden, we need to talk."
He became queasy at her voice. How could she be so disloyal to him?
"I need to take care of some important matters."
With the intention of ignoring her, he strolled by. It wasn't the appropriate moment to corner Jessie for her confession, but Caiden had other ideas. She could stretch the rope with his help till she hung herself with it.
He started to leave, but Jessie grabbed his arm. He was too uncomfortable to stay for one more minute.
"How much longer must I put up with Kamara being here?" Tears filled her eyes. "Are you unaware of how much your actions have hurt me? Caiden, I am carrying your pup. When are you going to value that?"
He gazed down at her belly and swallowed hard.
"You won't have any trouble with Kamara anymore," he said, adamantly meeting her eyes with his own. "She's going to leave here today."
Jessie seemed content with the smile that had appeared on her lips, showing no signs of regret. She rushed to give him a hug, but Caiden stopped her because she knew what he wanted. Rejecting her, he gripped to her wrist and gave it a painful squeeze that caused Jessie to gasp.
"Just let your brother know that I won't be showing him any mercy starting today." Jessie was shocked by his harsh release of her. "I'll give him a full day to get away from my pack. Considering that I intend to find him and murder him."
Jessie had a tear fall from her eye.
When she noticed him getting up and walking away, she tried to stop him once more, saying, "Please, Caiden."
Jessie was left crying behind. This story had an unusual tinge to it. Now that Kamara was going, Caiden desired to get rid of Enzo. There was a massive explosion and panic that took over Jessie's body as the pieces finally came together in her head. She fled the building and took refuge in the forest. Her lungs nearly suffocated from the lack of air. She wept, sensing that her time was running out. She walked up to the ancient, deserted house and peered out at Enzo.
She would also converse with him. The answers Jessie needed were only with Enzo.
