144 Losing his sister

Before coming out of the shadows to speak with Enzo, Jessie had to wait for her heart to stop pounding so fiercely inside her body. She was unable to even count how many issues there were between them. She couldn't stop thinking about the conversation she had with Enzo regarding their parents and his determination to sever all contact with them.

The day before, she had thought of calling them, but she had given up. Inadvertently taking after Enzo, Jessie distanced herself from her own family. She had made the decision to reside there and had unintentionally encouraged Enzo's decision to expel their mother and father from the pack. She was unable to take back her actions now. It was too late.

"Jessie, I smell you." Enzo’s words boomed through the emptiness, shocking Jessie. "And your heartbeat sounds too rapid to me."

After giving herself a hard swallow, Jessie took the initial step and soon after showed herself. A thick coating of sweat covered her face, smearing her makeup and giving her a frantic expression. Enzo knew something was really wrong as he watched her approach slowly. Jessie didn't usually behave like this.

His question, "What happened this time, little sister?" increased her anxiety.

"What did you do, Enzo, to Kamara?" In a whisper, the question was asked. "What did you say to her that enraged Caiden so much?"

With every word she spoke, Jessie felt her strength ebbing. She was over having arguments with her own brother.

"Nothing exceptional was done by me." Jessie thought his statement was rude. "Whenever it comes to Kamara, Caiden always overreacts."

Enzo came to the conclusion that Jessie still didn't know the truth and he wasn't sure if he should let her know.

"Treat me like a human being, please. Not like a fool." Her speaking tone abruptly altered, as did her expression. "If you hadn't done anything significant, Caiden wouldn't have threatened you."

Seated on the wooden stump behind him, Enzo averted his gaze.

"What sort of threat was Caiden making this time against me?"

"You should be able to guess that." She took a few inches to approach him.

He said, "I have no idea," and flung the knife he was holding into the trunk of the tree directly in front of him, staying in the woods reserved for elderly people.

"You have twenty-four hours to escape the pack and run, he instructed me to inform you." Fearfully, Enzo looked up at her. "And that he will pursue you in order to murder you."

Anxiously, Enzo got to his feet. Though he did not anticipate Caiden going overboard, he thought he would respond similarly.

"Go let your adored Alpha husband know that I won't be leaving this pack."

Jessie gave him a disbelieving glance.

"You must be going insane, Enzo." Shebsaid. Jessie was about to blow up. "You sre aware that Caiden will defeat you and that you cannot fight him."

She screamed at him, causing the vein in her neck to prickle, "I'm no coward to run away. "Tell him to come and complete his task; I'll be ready."

A tear started to fall down Jessie's cheek. She reached out to take Enzo's arm even closer.

She wept, inched herself closer to Enzo, and took hold of his arm.

"Explain to me what you said to Kamara." Her wide eyes conveyed how desperate she was to discover the truth.

However, Enzo said nothing.

"Tell me!" She became quite impatient and yelled.

"And how is that going to save me?" Jessie was furious with Enzo's demeanor.

"Enzo, I don't want you to die." She begged him to think again before acting. "Are you not aware that you are my only family?"

Without a doubt, she was speaking the truth. Caiden would reject Jessie and exclude her from the pack, leaving her on her own, after learning the truth about the kidnapping. Enzo didn't plan to pass away, though.

"Jessie, stop being so sentimental." He stepped back from her. "I doubt Caiden would hurt you in any way. He's still with you."

"What does that mean?" Jessie felt her heart burn in her chest as another tear fell.

It took longer than it needed to for Enzo to give her the whole truth.

"I was honest with Kamara about Louis."

The globe appeared to have stopped spinning. Jessie was in shock that Enzo had hurt her in such a way.

"What the hell did you do?" Her wolf growled inside of her as her nerves went numb. "Enzo, tell me this isn't true."

He answered, regretlessly, "That is the truth, Jessie." "Knowing that no one loves her made it enjoyable for you to suffer for her. That she is treated like a filthy orphan by everyone."

"Are you unaware of what you've done?" Disbelief abruptly gave way to hurt and rage. "You're endangering our relationship for a petty retaliation that makes no sense at all."

Her throat broke into another scream. Jessie wanted to get rid of Enzo there and beat Caiden to it.

"It's not a petty act of retaliation." They started yelling at one another out of nowhere. "You and I hired Louis to keep Kamara away from Caiden, as I told you. Is there a more powerful indication of love than that?"

"It has been demonstrated that you have no relationship knowledge." Feeling her heart break itself, she turned her back on him. "I will never be forgiven by Caiden for this."

All of a sudden, it felt as though she had vanished. Her whole body was poisoned by the despair coursing through her veins.

"This is the reason he handled me so poorly this morning." She let another tear fall from her eyes. "He hates me now, and I'm powerless to stop it."

"Jessie, you're exaggerating." Enzo minimized the situation and shrugged off her emotions. "Caiden won't treat you poorly. You are the pack's Luna, Jessie, and you're carrying his child. That is, at least, Caiden's belief."

"Cease talking." Her face was filled with venom as she turned to face him. "Enzo, you know what? I'm sick of your absurd acts of retaliation, when you step on your own sister in order to achieve your goals."

What he saw on her face surprised Enzo.

Her eyes were filled with scorn as she said, "I don't care if Caiden shows up and kills you. I no longer give a damn about anything that has to do with you."

"You're speaking nonsensical," he attempted to counter.

"All right, then! I'm not interested in your viewpoint anymore. Enzo, you made your decision." She started to turn her back on him. "And every decision you make has an effect, and yours is losing me as your sister."

"Jessie, what are you talking about?" Enzo realized for the first time that Jessie was sincere.

"I'm expressing my desire to never see you again."

She gave him one last glance before turning to go. The issue was that Jessie could no longer stand the amount of hatred she had in her heart for what Enzo had done.
