142 The truth 2
Jessie was in complete disbelief at what she saw. Holding Kamara in his arms, Caiden made his way into the main building. Anger trembled through her whole body. She was astounded that Caiden was spending so much time trying to save Kamara while she wasn't even receiving his attention.
"Caiden, what's going on here?" She questioned fiercely, letting go of her own body and making her way quickly toward Caiden.
"You ought to ask your brother." He positioned Kamara in front of her, demonstrating his protection of her once more. Enzo almost took her life. Ask him, Jessie, if you want to know what occurred.
His voice was so harsh that it broke her heart. Jessie was terribly affected by it and could not stand to watch Kamara replace her. But she understood there was no use in disputing with him. She pushed Caiden away from her each time she opened her mouth to speak against him.
"I'm not sure what's going on with Enzo." She looked as though she was worried. "I really apologize for what transpired."
However, Caiden avoided eye contact with her, acting as though he didn't hear her, and she said nothing. She was so displeased with Caiden for showing Kamara affection and care that she hurried out of the room.
Kamara grabbed his hand to stop him as he replied, "I'll call a doctor to examine her."
He sat back down after giving her a brief glance and saying, "Wait, Caiden. At this moment, don't worry about me. You must locate Nate."
With a gentle touch on her hand, he replied, "I can't leave you alone, Kamara. Not with Enzo out of control."
Kamara realized he was correct. She recalled what Enzo had said and the pain she had felt firsthand while with him. Caiden got back to his feet as though he had reached an unpleasant realization. His expression twisted as he concluded his thoughts. After a few minutes of silence, he finally said something.
When he eventually admitted, "I need to get you out of the pack," it broke his heart. "Being close to me is unsafe for you and the kids. Kamara, you have to go."
Kamara didn't feel delighted to hear that, even if she should have. Her eyes showed how overwhelmed with sadness she was.
A wave of pain burst through her chest, "I need to find Nate as soon as possible because he is no longer here to protect you. You need to go, Kamara, and take our kids with you."
She wanted to give him a hug, but she was unable to. She surprised even Caiden by letting the tears fall this time. He walked carefully up to her, and Kamara gave him a hug.
"I believed that this was what you desired." He was caressing her hair. "to stay apart from me."
"Caiden, it's not your fault if Enzo wants to harm me." A cry ran out of her mouth. "I didn't want the boys to be apart from you. I was reluctant to leave."
With care, he withdrew and held her face. Kamara weakend him. She was his gem. "I'll be seeing them a lot," he declared. "In addition, it will only be temporary while I decide what to do with Enzo."
"I have had enough of escaping Enzo."
Kamara was aware of Caiden's reasons for staying silent about Enzo. He had a lot of reasons, regardless of how much she disagreed. Being Jessie's brother, Enzo would never intentionally harm her. He was innately loyal. When she realized there was no way out, someone made her sad once more. Kamara believed that their love could never be.
"I would rather have you leave me than have you killed in front of me."
Her heart raced after hearing his words. She felt as though she had butterflies in her tummy. She walked over to give him a kiss. Maybe this was her last opportunity to tell Caiden that she still loved him in spite of everything that was going on. She wouldn't miss it if it turned out to be her final kiss. She was going to cherish the moment.
He muttered, "I love you, Kamara," but she was unable to respond to his words.
"I must share with you what Enzo told me." The story took a different turn when she whispered as well.
When Caiden saw that she was lying about her love once more, he swallowed hard. He simply listened to what she was prepared to say, though, and didn't press.
"Louis never meant to assist me in locating the children." She needed to take a brief break to regain her strength. "His only intention was to keep me far away from you and prevent me from finding my children."
Something sinister appeared on Caiden's face.
"Jessie and Enzo gave him money to do that."
Caiden felt a rush of shock go through him at this realization. Angrily, he got up and placed both hands on his head. How is Jessie connected to any of this? How could she trick him in this way?
Another tear fell from her cheek, "I should have believed you when you said Louis wasn't someone to trust. I'm so sorry, Caiden. I was so determined to find my kids that I She felt his fingers brush against her lips, but she didn't see him approach.
He said, "Kamara, this is not the time to blame yourself," yet there was a chasm in his eyes. "How could I have known that my closest friend and wife would turn on me?"
His eyes went blank and faraway for a moment. His features lost all warmth and affection as his face became harder. The veins in his neck were throbbing, as she could see. Kamara was curious to know what was going through his mind, but she knew she would become lost in the shadows if she tried to peek inside.
Caiden sprang up and started to look for the doctor.
"Caiden, are you alright?" He glanced in her direction.
He said, "You shouldn't worry about me, Kamara," in a tone that betrayed extreme hurt.
"What are you going to do now?" she enquired, expressing concern for his situation.
"Before I get you out of here, I'll call a doctor to check on you."
After taking one last look at her, he turned to go. Kamara knew when the door closed, chaos would break out in the pack and there would be no turning back.
