Chapter 49 CHAPTER FORTY- NINE
CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
ZARIA’S POV
I ran back to my room, with all the speed I could muster.
My heart kept pounding in my chest, numbing my thoughts, and leaving me with questions I had no answers to.
Could that be my mother?.
What connection would Max have with my mother, or am I hallucinating?
Probably I was hallucinating, my mother was missing until confirmed dead. What are the odds that my husband has kidnapped my mother and left her hostage all these years?
The Venom is certainly having effects on me, that can't be my dead mother.
Getting to the room, I collapsed on the bed, ignoring the banging of my head.
“Arrrrrrggg” I groaned, holding my head in place.
I needed to talk to someone, who should I speak to? Elara was the only person coming to my mind, but she would probably be busy at the moment.
After much contemplation, I decided to send for her.
I got off the bed and walked out of the room to find two guards in front of my room.
“Get Elara here “ I said. “Right now”
With a bow, they left to deliver my message.
Within a few minutes, Elara was knocking on my door. “Come on in,” I yelled.
She ran inside the room with worries in her eyes. “Is there a problem?” she asked, checking around for any threat.
“I am alright Elara” I assured. “I just need to talk to you”
“About?” she asked, sitting beside me on the bed.
I turned to look at her genuine but elderly eyes. Staring at me with a smile on her face, even when her worries spoke louder.
“Do you know what is in that secluded corridor?” I asked, and she arched her eyebrow in response.
“Your Grace, Nobody knows what is in that door, except the Alpha” she replied to my question.
I bite the bottom of my lips, trying to figure out how I would tell her that I entered the door.
“I…I entered the room” I said.
She gasped, covering her mouth with both hands.
“Is there a monster in that room?” she asked, checking my body for any scratches.
I withdrew from her.
“I am fine, Elara,” I assured her. “There is no monster in that room. It's just my mother”
Elara searched her eyes, too stunned to talk. I mean what are the odds that my husband would have kept my mother locked up for these past years?
“Elara says something!” I whispered in fear, after minutes of Elara’s sudden quietness.
“You need to speak to Max, not me” She said, I could hear fear in her voice, the same fear I presumed when I spoke about the secluded door for the first time.
“I…i… I don't know what to tell him” I stuttered.
“Tell him what you saw,” she said, standing on her feet. “I beg to take my leave”
Elara left, and I didn't bother to stop her. I just want an answer.
I lay back on the bed, lost in my thoughts.
The door cracked open, and Max walked in with a smile on his face.
I sat up and tried to return the smile but I couldn't.
“Is everything alright?” he asked, sitting beside me
He cupped my face with both hands, allowing me to melt in his warm caress.
“Max, I…” My voice trailed off, and tears glimmered in my eyes.
He lifted my head, and kissed me, not deeply but passionately.
I drew him closer, then slipped my tongue into his mouth.
He chuckled.
He deepened the kiss, caressing my face, and I drew his hands to my breast.
He resisted.
“What?” I huffed.
“You are still recovering,” He whispered, taking a strand of my hair and placing it behind my ears.
“I am fine” I rolled my eyes.
“I don't think so,” he smiled, allowing his dimples to show.
He stared at me for a long time, his green eyes searching mine.
“I want to ask you something,” He said.
I shrugged. “I am listening”
“Did you go to the secluded corridor?” he asked, his eyes never leaving mine.
I gulped hard, trying to stop my shaking hands.
“Why…would you ask me that?” I whimpered, with my heart pounding and my breath unsteady.
“Shit! You did go to the secluded corridor!” He growled, smacking his hands on his forehead.
“How did you know that?” I asked, trying to defend myself.
“Because you left the open and my prisoner almost escaped!” He yelled. “Why do you always disrespect my orders”
His orders? I scoffed, reminding myself of the reason I didn’t want to be with Max. He is such an asshole.
“You don’t order me Max” I snapped. “I am your wife”
“And you won’t be soon,” He sneered at me. “I am going to call off this trial marriage”
My chest tightened, I always wanted out of this marriage, but hearing him say it to my face is frightening.
I wiped the tears off my face and looked at him. “Why did you put her there?”
He got off the bed in a rush and faced the window.
“That is none of your business” He snapped at me.
His once loving aura had been replaced with a cruel one, why does he have to be this way?
“It is my business” I growled at him. “You can not put a woman in chains for entertainment, just because you are the Alpha”
He turned to look at me, his eyes void of the care I had almost melted in a few minutes ago.
“You think she is in there because of my entertainment” He huffed, his voice laced with bitterness.
“Max, that woman is a good woman!” I yelled, ignoring the pain at the back of my head.
“How would you even know that?” He asked, with an arched eyebrow.
“Because…she is my mother” I said, in a whisper.
“What?” He scoffed.
“I don’t know if I am hallucinating, but the woman I saw there is my mother,” I replied to him.
“Your mother killed my little sister” He stated, his burning hatred in his voice.
My mother is not a murderer, what the hell is he talking about?
