Chapter 48 CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
ZARIA’S POV
My eyes fluttered open, and my vision was hazy.
“Aggg” I groaned, holding my head tightly, an attempt to reduce the pain in my head.
I saw Max's green eyes staring at me, with a weak smile on his face.
“She is awake!” he announced, to people I could barely notice their presence.
Soon Ethan rushed to my side and took me into a tight hug, which was almost painful.
“Careful” I whimpered, and he released me quickly.
“I am sorry” he said, touching my head. “Did I hurt you”
“No” I groaned, trying to sit up, but Max pushed me back on the bed softly.
“You need to rest,” he said, pushing a strand of hair behind my ears.
“What happened?” I asked, and they all fell silent. “Someone talk to me”
“You got kidnapped,” Raymond said, from the corner of the room. “And you almost died”
My heart skipped upon hearing that, I almost died, again and this happened just a few months after being the Luna of our pack.
“Again?” I huffed, staring at Max, because it was partially his fault.
“I am sorry for putting you through this” he apologized. “I would make sure to look into this and find the fucker that did this to you”
I tried to recall all that happened, but I couldn’t. My head began to throb and I heard whispers, two familiar voices rang in my head, one masculine and the other feminine
“Aggg” I groaned, holding my head in place, trying to stop the whispers in my head.
“Zaria!” Max called in panic. “Are you alright?”
He took me into his arms, and placed a warm cloth on my forehead, trying to bring my burning temperature down.
“What is happening to me?” I cried, with trembling lips.
“It is the venom!” Ethan announced. “She tried remembering something”
“Zaria, you need to calm down, don't stress your brain” Max said, holding me tightly.
I felt warm in his arms, and the headache started to reduce drastically, like he was my antidote.
“Zaria!” I heard Elara scream, as the door pushed open.
“Elara” I smiled weakly, as she ran towards me with teary eyes.
“I thought I had lost you” she cried, climbing from the other end of the bed. “Don't make me scared like that again”
Max released me into her arms and she hugged me tightly, almost choking the little air in my lungs.
“I am sorry for making you scared” I apologised, crying into her arms.
“Seeing you almost lifeless for two days, is a pain I don't want to ever feel, your Grace” She whispered into my hair. “Please don't leave me again”
“I won't” I choked out, “That is a promise”
We withdrew from the hug and stared at each other in comfortable silence. I missed seeing her wrinkly eyes, staring at me with joy, reminding me of my mother.
“I love this bonding session, honestly I do” Raymond chimed in, disturbing our quiet moment. “But the Alpha and I need to go for a board meeting and we would be taking Ethan along”
Ethan turned and gave him a death glare. “I am not leaving her,” he growled.
“Yes, you are” Max said, turning to look at Ethan, who was already red in anger. “I appreciate your efforts, but the attacks came from Crescent Pack. And we have to be careful about everyone, especially people from Crescent Pack.”
“You think I would hurt Zaria?” he huffed. “She means a lot to me, more than you think, and I won't leave until I know she is alright”
I started hearing other whispers in my head, as they fought. “Check under the bed” the voice kept saying and I didn't know if hallucinations were among the side effects of Venom.
“I need to be alone!” I yelled, cutting down their quarrel.
“Are you okay?” Max asked, with worries in his eyes.
“Is anything the matter? You know you can tell me right?” Ethan added, staring at me.
“I am fine, I just want to be alone” I said, and they all nodded in agreement.
“Don't do anything stupid dear” Elara warned, giving me a peck on my forehead.
Soon, the room was empty, and the whispers in my head were louder.
I got off the bed, looked under the bed and saw a key, what the hell is a key doing under the bed?
I reached for it and grabbed it. It looked like I had seen the locks to these keys before, but my brain was too scattered to think of anything.
“Secluded corridor” I whispered to myself, that Venom thing had done a lot to me.
I stood up and headed to the secluded corridor, I just wanted to quench my curiosity, seeing the key under the bed only means that it's a key to a secret door and the only secret door in the palace is the secluded corridor.
As I rushed to the corridor, I bumped into Gwen. She didn't look surprised to see me.
“The news that you are awake is true,” she smiled. “Enjoy being Luna, because these are your last days as Luna”
“If there is a way for you to be Luna before noon, do it.” I snapped at her. “I am tired of it, my life was normal when I was a common peasant”
She looked at me stunned, I just rolled my eyes and walked past her.
My life had been endangered since Max slipped this wedding band on my fingers. I stared at the band and it looked heavy, the weight I once ignored.
After about five minutes, I was in the secluded corridor.
Nothing had changed, it looked nasty like the way it was months ago.
With shaking hands, I took out the key and inserted it into the lock.
I ignored the fear in my chest, and pushed the old dusty door open, to find a blond lady sitting in her bed.
She raised her head, and our eyes locked.
My eyes pooped out, and my mouth opened wide.
“Mum!” I gasped for air.
