Chapter 37

Chapter 37
As for Werewolves, they could use a mind link but that basically happened only when the people involved had a bond connecting them. Either they were mates or related somehow by blood or oath. Even in cases like that, the person has to be close to the other. If the recipient was too far, the mind link would not work. That was why phones became a trend even between werewolves.
Sofia stared at him long and hard, watching how his eyes increased in size as he spoke. She placed a hand to her temples and kept glaring at him.
"My people are connected to our root, till this day. We can mind links for thousands of distances. We do not need phones," Sofia said but her mouth never moved, yet Damon heard her perfectly clear in his head.
Damon was flabbergasted. No other species had been known to mind link with a wolf before. Not like the humans could pull it off but it was a thing only werewolves could do and you have to be within close proximity to the wolf in question before they could hear you and Logan was miles apart. He and Logan didn't even have any form of connection, even if he were close the linking would not work. Damon couldn't tell exactly how far because he didn't even know where he was.
"You just spoke to me?" Damon asked her out loud. He needed to be sure, he wasn't picking up on someone's conversation even though the voice sounded awfully like Sofia's smooth voice. He wasn't related to this girl, was he?
"Yes, I just did." Again, her mouth didn't move. She was really speaking inside his head.
"How are you able to do that?" Damon. Was she his mate?
"The mind link?" Sofia said dropping her hands from her temples. "I told you we are descendants of the moon goddess. We are kind of like siblings with werewolves and no, I am not your blood relative, neither am I your mate, it's just a thing, my people can do." Her smile returned to her face and she placed the tray in her hands on the table.
She then tapped her hands and everything returned to its place.
"Have something to eat, then we talk!" She announced before disappearing within the house again.
Damon stared at the food cautiously with everything happening he wasn't hungry. He needed answers and he had to find Laila, not stay here and talk about mind links.
Sofia returned from within the house and sat opposite him. "You are not eating?" She questioned watching him. "You think it's poison?"
She took a spoon full of the soup and dipped it in her mouth. "Mmmh, this is quite delicious. You'll regret not tasting it when it gets cold." She moaned with a smirk on her face.
Seeing that she actually ate it herself, Damon got convinced that the meal was not poisoned after all. He scooped a small portion and tried it. The taste wasn't so bad. It tasted like chicken soup, though he couldn't see the chicken in the soup, he could taste it.
"Thank you." He muttered as he savored the meal.
Sofia beamed at him from her position on the chair. "You are welcome," she said and then fell quiet, letting him enjoy his meal in peace.
When he finished eating, she offered him a glass of water and he took it gratefully. He gulped it down and returned the cup to the table.
"When can I leave?" Damon asked.
Sofia's smile dropped from her face and she shifted to the edge of the couch she sat in. "That is what I need to talk to you about..." She trailed off, waiting for him to adjust to what she had said.
"What do you mean? Is there a problem?" Damon asked
"Yes, the things attacking you, won't stop until they get a new mission or you are dead," she explained, her glowing face looking troubled.
Damon could remember not seeing anything aside from the strange wolf on the road and the arrows that came from nowhere. Whoever was after his life, he couldn't tell. "Who is after me?"
"The ones you call the spirit wolves, they are the ones after you."
"Shit!" This only proved that Dearkson was still after him even after framing him up in the city like that.
"You have to stay here for at least two weeks, so they can lose your scent and move on to their next mission," Sofia explained.
That was too much time. He had to be out there looking for ways to convince Laila to return with him, so they could end the reign of the council. He couldn't stay here for two weeks. That was impossible.
"I can't stay here for too long. I have things to do. People are waiting for me!" Damon snapped. "I can't just seat here doing nothing when people are dying out there!"
"I know everything that is happening. Dearkson can not rule forever that's why mother sent Laila, she would end him. But she needs to learn. You need to learn too."
Damon frowned and stared at her. "What are you talking about?"
Sofia, got up from the couch she was sitting on and walked to face the window, "mother has heard your cries. She knows your pain. And she sent Laila. But Dearkson tried to lure your beliefs astray. But so not worry, he will be defeated."
"Hold on a second," Damon said walking to where she stood. "You are saying so many things at the same time, it's becoming too much to take in. Who is this mother you speak of?" Damon demanded.
Sofia turned to him with a smile, "mother is the moon goddess."
If what Sofia was saying was through, that meant, he could get more information about Laila with her, since Jonathan couldn't tell him all he knew before he got so brutally murdered by the spirit wolves.
"So, the goddess sent Laila to us?" Damon asked, initiating the conversation.
"Yes, a prophecy was said about a girl wolf being born and Dearkson twisted this prophecy to his own advantage. Laila isn't your enemy, but she could be if she is pushed in the wrong direction. That's why you were chosen to lead her." Sofia explained.
"Me?"
"Yes, do you think you got pulled into all of these from mere coincidence? No, Damon, you have the destiny to fulfill and that is to lead Laila into fulfilling hers. "
Damon couldn't make sense of what she was saying. If it was true that Laila was to be with him, how come she ended up with Adam? What if Dearkson already knew this part of the prophecy and sent Adam to lure her into the darkness?
"I need to go back!" Damon snapped. He had to get Laila away from Adam.
"Are you thinking about Adam Myers? Do not worry about him," Sofia said, returning to seat on the couch once more.
"You know him too?" Damon asked. Sofia seemed to know everyone in his world.
Sofia smiled wider. "Let's just say I know a lot of things." She responded.
Damon didn't want to venture into asking how she knew about all of them. If she knew Adam, maybe she knew what connection he had with Laila and the council.
"Why is he not taking Laila to the council?" Damon blurted.
"Adam?" Sofia said as if she was distracted by something else for a minute.
Damon nodded and she smiled
"Oh, Adam is not working for the council. He is also fulfilling his part of the prophecy. You see, you all have parts to play and Adam is only doing his."
"But he use to be an assassin for the council. Don't you think he might change his mind and kill her or maybe take her to Dearkson if he is given a bigger offer?" Damon asked again.
Sofia shook her head with a smile. "No, Adam can't hurt Laila, even if he wanted to. The bound between them won't allow him."
"What bound do they share? Is he her mate?" That was the only plausible explanation. If they were mates, he could never submit her to the council, neither can he physically harm her even if he wanted to.
"Mate? No way!" Sofia shrugged. "They share a different bound. They are siblings."
