Chapter 36
Chapter 36
PARALLEL VERSE
A strange wolf jumped into the road and it was staring at him.
Damon's truck was already too close to it, in that brief moment, he had to either hit it or change direction. He decided to not hit it. Damon tried to swerve the truck away from the strange wolf that kept staring at him to avoid hitting it but there was no way for him.
His truck tires screeched as he tried to maneuver away. He hit something on the road and before he could blink, his truck was in the air. Everything started happening in slow motion. He saw the car float in the air, flipping and turning till it landed unto the side of the road. As the car flipped, the seat belt broke and Damon saw himself hit the insides of the truck hard. He heard his bones snap and break but he couldn't do anything, the truck was still in motion. Finally, the truck flipped a couple of times more before coming to a stop.
Despite his injuries, Damon struggled out of the wreck. As he got out, his bones cracked and snapped back into place, rebuilding itself. He was about to stretch himself when he heard the whooshing sound of an incoming arrow. He tried to watch out for it but the sky was already getting dark and his body was still weak from healing itself, his night vision wasn't clear enough.
Damon finally saw the arrow but it was already too late. The arrow was right in front of him. Damon fell onto his back trying to escape it but the arrow came with the precision of a nuclear bomb. But just as it was about to pierce into his skin, it got stopped by an invisible wall. The arrow fell on the floor and vanished.
Damon had never seen something like this before. He was gobsmacked. He raised his fingers to the barrier and truly, it felt like a wall but his fingers could pass through it. He felt a sizzling sensation around his hand at the areas where the force holding the invisible wall kissed at his hand. Just at that moment, he heard another swooshing sound heading his way and he pulled his hand back. Just as he pulled it, another arrow hit the spot where his hand was.
Damon shifted back on his rump watching in shock as more arrows flew in his direction but they all got stopped by the wall around him. The wall was protecting him. How was that possible?
He didn't have to question himself for too long, just as he started wondering where the force had come from he felt someone tap his shoulder gently and he turned around sharply, baring his teeth and claws ready for a fight.
But his defenses dropped when his eyes settled on the intruder. He was looking at a very beautiful creature, with long flowing hair that was as white as milk and as smooth as silk.
She didn't look old enough to have such a color of hair. Yet, her aura gave off wisdom, just like an ancient. She had a round face that glowed in the dark and Damon found himself drooling. Where did she come from? What was she? In all his years on earth, he had never seen such a creature, she didn't have the scent of a wolf to her, so she most definitely wasn't a werewolf. The aura and power she possessed were also beyond a mere human, yet she looked like one. Looking into her grey eyes was like drinking cold water on a very sunny day. Damon found himself drawn into her. It was like a force pulling at him to give in to her.
He shook his head and tried to pull away from her. At this point, he didn't know who where his enemies were, he couldn't trust her. Dearkson could send anyone to him.
"Who are you?" Damon growled, pointing his claws at her.
She smiled, looking at his claws like they weren't a threat to her. "I come in peace, Damon."
"How did you know my name? Who are you?" Damon repeated as he unconsciously moved away from her.
"My name is Sofia," she whispered. Her voice was like a healing pill to the bruises in his body.
What was she?
She was doing something to him and he could feel it. He shrugged her hands away from him and she stepped back, her soft smile never leaving her face.
"I know you have a lot of questions, but we must go before the wall weakens. They won't stop until they get you killed." Again her voice soothes his body and he feels weak all over at the same time.
"Who won't stop?" Damon asked her. Her words reminded him of Jonathan's last words. He was scared of the spirit wolves. He mentioned that they won't stop until they killed him. And true to his words, they didn't stop until he was dead.
Sofia moved her long kegs away from her legs and waves her hands in the air, a sort of portal opened and she turned back around, giving Damon her hand, "come with me, I will explain everything inside."
Damon looked back at the wall of raining arrows and looked at the lady's hand, "why should I trust you?"
Sofia's smile grew even larger as she said, "you don't have much of an option. If I leave you here, you'd die."
Damon clinked his tongue in frustration but he truly had no choice. He raised his hand and placed it on her hand and together they entered the portal. A strong wind welcomed them and Damon was forced to close his eyes as they moved. It felt like walking into a sand storm, but with sand.
When Damon opened his eyes again, he was in a strange little village, with small cottages painted in white color. Everything was uniform, from the size of the houses to the color choice, to the little gardens by the front porch.
"Where is this place," Damon wondered. It was like a picture cut out of a children's novel.
"Welcome to the parallel verse, a world between your world and the one beyond," Sofia explained as she moved confidently on the road.
"The parallel- what?" Damon asked, getting confused with her words.
A few little children were playing on the road, when they saw her approaching they all stopped and bowed their heads, respectfully. They all had white hair just like Sofia.
"Make sure you get home soon. It's getting late -" Sofia warns them.
"Yes, Sofia!" They chirped happily before running off.
Damon was starting to think he was dreaming. How else can he explain finding himself in a land where everyone had white hair?
"So, yeah, the parallel verse. It is a place where all supernaturals come from-" Sofia resumed her explanation but Damon stopped her.
"Wait- we do what? I came from my parents not here!" Damon snapped. What she was saying made no sense. As far as he was concerned, werewolves came from the moon goddess and that was how their history went.
"I know you, but have you ever thought where the moon goddess came from?" She asked him and he had to swallow his tongue.
"From the moon?" He whispered.
Sofia burst into laughter. The sound echoes in the surrounding. "You are really funny Damon. The moon goddess doesn't come from the moon. She lived here in the parallel verse before she retired up above in the sky. There are a lot of things you don't know but before you return home, I will make an effort to give you all the knowledge you need for now. You need to rest."
They got to the front of a cottage, similar to the rest they have been passing, and Sofia, opened the door, ushering Damon in. "Come in!" She cheered.
Inside, it was simple and as put together as the outside. The chairs were organized nicely and there was even a long couch by the side of the door.
"Please, make yourself at home, while I get you something to eat!" She was about to leave and Damon couldn't stop himself. He held her back.
The moment his hands connected to her body he felt the same sizzling sensation he felt when he placed his hand into that wall.
"What are you?" Damon asked.
Sofia smiled sweetly, pulling his hand away from her, "I am a witch. We are descendants of the moon goddess."
Damon could not sit still after Sofia left. He had heard of witches before in stories. He had even heard of vampires, creatures that sucked blood from their victims but he never thought they existed. He always thought werewolves were the only supernatural in the world. Now he was thrown into a world, completely different from his and he didn't know what to do about it.
What if they were evil and they planned to harm him!!
No, he had to find a way out of this place. His people depended on him. Everyone hoped he would bring Laila and sort their pressing issue, not bring in more problems by telling them about things they never knew of.
He should call Logan and ask him about his progress with Laila. The sooner he got out of this strange place, he would continue his journey and meet up with Logan.
Out of habit, he tapped his pockets for his phone, and unfortunately there was no familiar bump. He dipped his fingers into all of his pockets, searching for the phone but he found none. His fingers came out empty.
"Shit!" He cursed as he remembered, how it dropped in his car during the crash. He had lost his phone.
This Sofia girl, she must have a phone somewhere. He searched the entire place for a phone but found none. He scattered the chairs, checking under the couch but he still found nothing.
"Damon, by the goddess, why did you mess up this place like this?" Sofia cried out as she returned inside with a tray in her hands. "What are you looking for?"
"I need a phone!" Damon snapped, not looking at her. He needed a phone so he could contact Logan as soon as possible.
"A phone? We don't use phones here." Sofia explained to him but Damon wasn't taken that for an excuse.
"If you don't use phones how do you connect with the rest of your people?" Damon did not believe her. There was no way they could live without phones. Even the humans used the damned devices.
