Chapter 30 The Trees
Elena’s POV
I felt weird when Liam left but I needed to do something with the time I had now.
I went to Sarah’s room and knocked.
“It’s open,” she shouted from inside.
I opened the door and walked in.
Her room was beautiful, the walls were rich blue and had nice stickers on them.
I smiled. It definitely looked like her room.
“Oh, hey Elena, what’s up?” She walked out of her bathroom with her towel around her.
“Aren’t you worried anyone could just walk in,” I asked.
“Nope, besides only Clara and Liam ever come in and trust me Liam always asks if I look decent before he comes in,” she sighed as she rolled her eyes.
She looks at me weirdly. “I’m happy that you are here but I know that you came here to ask me something.”
“Yeah, I did, well it’s just that now that I’m officially Liam’s mate, I just hope that you don’t have a problem if he spends too much time with me.”
She looks at me with her mouth open. “What are you even talking about? I have no problem at all if you keep him locked up in your room for years,” she laughed.
“You don’t know how happy I am that his mate didn’t really die,” she frowned.
“Maybe she did though and you are his second chance but anyway I think it’s really nice that he found you, he’s been so lonely since…”
“I understand, I mean I was a slave in my pack before I met Liam,” I shrugged.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“What about your family, how could they let them do that to you?” She looked sad.
“Well, I didn’t know my real parents but I did have foster parents, but they didn’t exactly like and when I couldn’t shift on my eighteen birthday, the Alpha told them that it was either I became a slave or a rogue,”
“That’s bullshit,” she looked angry. “If I ever see that Alpha, I will rip his head off."
I laughed.
“Hey, I’m serious,” she pouted and that made me laugh even more.
“I know but you didn’t need to do that, I’m happy that things happened like that, how else would I have met Liam.”
She gave me a weak smile. “I can’t wait to find my mate you know. Everyone has always been trying like a baby ever since my parents died.”
“How did they die?”
She doesn’t answer and I think I asked too soon.
“They were coming home from a meeting and then a wolf, probably a rogue, ran into the road and well you can guess the rest.”
I moved closer and sat on the bed with her and held her hand.
“I was twelve years old back then, so I wasn’t really sure what was happening. I had just come back from my friend’s place, and I saw everyone gathered around and I knew something was wrong.”
“It’s okay,” I said.
“How did everyone find out?”
“Mom had linked their beta, who was Josh’s father, about the accident but when he got there, he was too late,” she said crying.
I hugged her and rubbed her back. “It’s okay, everything is fine now.”
She stopped crying and looked at me. “I’m sorry,”
“It’s fine, I understand how you feel,” I said. “Let’s do something fun today to help your mood.”
She beams. “Like what?”
“I have been thinking about what you said about Liam finding some weird trees in the forest, maybe we could find them.”
“I’m in,” she smiled and that makes me happy.
“Okay then.”
Sarah gets dressed in excitement, she puts on tight jeans and a long top, kind of what I’m wearing now.
She brushed her hair. “Okay, let’s go.”
We leave the pack house and head into the forest.
“I’m starting to think this isn’t really a good idea,” I said when we have been searching for too long.
“Oh, come on Elena, maybe we will actually find it, just believe the forest and it was your idea anyways.”
Yeah, and I’m regretting it now. I thought to myself.
We keep walking and it's almost dark now.
“Okay Sarah I give up, maybe we should head back now,” I said feeling tired and hungry.
Sarah sighed and looked at me.
“Fine.”She walks back to me but then stops, her eyes going wide. “No freaking way, Liam was not crazy,”
I follow her eyes and see the tree behind me.
It has a crescent moon on it. I look to the right and see another but it’s a full moon.
“There,” I pointed. “That’s another one.”
Sarah walked over to the tree and touched it. “Whoa, it feels weird like it’s alive, come and touch it, Elena.”
But I don’t want to. It doesn’t look dangerous, but I can feel its power from here.“Come on Sarah, it’s really dark now we need to go back, Clara and the others are going to be looking for us.”
But she isn’t listening, just staring at the tree.
Oh, Goddess I really suck at this big sister thing.
I reach out to pull Sarah from the tree but as I touch her, I feel everything.
My head goes up and then I see different pictures, but I can’t understand them, they are coming in too fast.
Someone is calling my name, but I can’t really hear them because it feels like my brain is about to explode.
When I think I’m going to die from the pain everything goes quiet and everywhere becomes dark.
