Chapter 59 - Life was perfect.
Nadia

Could it be? Could it actually be that we would finally be able to live in peace?! I wondered as I watched people working to fix what the witches broke. We had faced all the enemies. We fixed what the spell broke, and the witches were healing. Did that mean that we could actually live in peace?!

Lucca suggested a festival, which made me laugh. He always suggested some festival, and it was always a huge hit with the people, but this time we were inviting the witches to join in the festivities. We wanted to celebrate the peace. Not just for us, but for the witches as well. It took a while to get everything organized, but within a couple of weeks everyone gathered around a huge bonfire on the first night of the festival. Witches, werewolves, ghosts and even sprites were all gathered together as Lucca cleared his throat.

“When I met young Nadia the first time, I was simply mesmerized. She had been through so much tragedy that I couldn’t even begin to imagine how she survived it all. She took my breath away and if I knew then what I know now, I would have marked her on the spot.” All around us laughter broke out as my cheeks turned bright red and Lucca kissed my forehead. “You have brought peace to a land that hasn’t seen peace in a very long time. You brought peace not only to your pack, but to all of us. I want to thank you for that, my love, and I’m sure all the people want to thank you as well. Where we gather here as friends tonight, take the time to think about everything we have gained. Enjoy the festival!” Lucca shouted that last part and all around us applause and shouts of joy erupted.

It was the best feeling in the world to know that we could actually all get together and have fun for once in our lives! All around us, people were dancing and laughing and eating. People were celebrating life and that made me feel so good. It also made me feel a little sad that the dragons weren’t there to celebrate it with us, as I thought of all the people who didn’t survive the war.

The festival carried on for a week, and when the time came to pack up and go home, I felt sad. When I was living in the castle, I spent most of my time alone. Being here with everyone filled my heart with such joy that I didn’t want to leave. After spending most of my young life preparing for war, it felt so strange to return home and live in peace. I laughed at my own thoughts. I really didn’t want to fight ever again, but it was incredible to get to know everyone. It was almost unbelievable to think that the war was over. We had no more enemies left.

We had been home for over a month when I finally got the news, I suspected for days! I was pregnant! I had been feeling sick for a couple of weeks since the festival, but I didn’t want to say anything until I was sure. Lucca was ecstatic when I told him and I nearly hurled when he swung me through the air. Our children would live in a world where everyone gets along.

Our children would grow up in a world where war didn’t exist! They would grow up with a loving pack around them. I could teach them everything I knew about the forest and by the time they were old enough to learn, the forest would have recovered after years of bloodshed. In honour of my pregnancy and because I told Lucca what I thought of, he planted a new tree in the forest.

Lucca and my parents made a big thing about it being our new tradition. We would plant a tree for each birthday our children had. That way we would celebrate life and that we had another year of peace. We would also restore the forest to its incredible beauty. Over time, we would wipe out all the reminders of the war and things would be beautiful again.

Our country flourished and some of the witches even moved to the capital! Our son was born a couple of months later, and he was the light of my life from that first moment he opened his eyes. I was standing on the balcony looking up at the full moon when Lucca found me.

“Penny for your thoughts.” He flung his arms around my waist and I leaned into his touch, breathing in his scent.

“I was just thinking about the times I used to stand on this very balcony when Sebastian was still alive.” I sighed deeply. “I never imagined I would have this beautiful life you’ve given me.” I turned around in his arms and looked into his eyes as tears filled mine. All those years I was preparing to kill my parents and I didn’t even know. Now I had a family who loved me and Sebastian and the vampires were gone.

So much had changed, and I never even thought things could be this good. I thought I would probably die in the war with the werewolves. I never allowed myself to hope for peace. Hell, I didn’t even think that my parents could be alive.

“Well, you had a huge hand in changing things, my love.” Lucca smiled before picking me up bridal style and carrying me to our room. Life was perfect, and I wanted to keep the memory locked away forever. I never wanted to lose that moment. I never wanted to lose the feeling I felt at that moment. Burning it into my memory forever, I wanted to make sure that whenever things got tough, I could just think about it and remember. From hereon out, our lives are going to be filled with love and hope.
