Chapter 182 – Hunted Under the Moon

Chapter 182 – Hunted Under the Moon
Damien stood still for a moment after the call ended.

The alpha of the Nightfall pack watched him carefully.

“So?” the Alpha asked, folding his arms.
Damien’s jaw tightened. Then he slowly replied. “I’ll do it.”

The words came out calm.

“I’ll bring you the white wolf,” he said.

A slow smile spread across the Alpha’s face.

“Good! You've got yourself a deal.” the Alpha said.

Damien’s eyes darkened and their eyes locked.

A silent agreement, Damien nodded once.

Then turned and walked away. But the moment he was gone, the Alpha’s smile faded.

His expression turned sharp. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. Dialed a number. The call connected almost immediately.

“Yes, Alpha,” a voice answered.

“Gather as many betas as you can,” the Alpha said without wasting a second. “I want them ready now.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“They are to head to Alpha Edward’s mansion immediately.”

A pause.

“And listen carefully,” he added, his voice dropping lower. “We are not the only ones who know about the white wolf.”

The voice on the other end went silent.

“Other packs will come,” the Alpha continued. “They will want her too.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“So move fast. Surround the entire area and capture her.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“My intel says she has already left the mansion,” the Alpha added. “She ran off.”

“Understood.”

“Then search the woods,” he said. “Every corner. Every path.”

His grip tightened slightly on the phone.

“The full moon is in four days.” A heavy silence followed.

“I want her captured before then.”

“Yes, Alpha.” The call ended.

The alpha lowered his phone slowly. A small smile returned to his lips. “Let the hunt begin,” he murmured.

Back in the woods, I didn’t know where I was going. I was just running.

The wind tore through my fur as my paws hit the ground again and again. Trees blurred past me, branches scratched against my sides, leaves crushed beneath me.

Everything felt louder, my heartbeat thundered in my ears.

My breath came out in heavy bursts. I couldn’t stop.

I didn’t even know what I was running from anymore.

Whether it was fear, pain or Edward.

Behind me, I could hear them. All four of them.
Their paws hitting the ground, steady. They were chasing me, trying to calm me down.

Then I felt it before I saw them. A shift in the air.

A change in the forest. My instincts screamed at me. Danger.

I slowed slightly, my ears twitched, my body tensed.

And then a growl, it was low, deep and close.
I stopped. My chest rose and fell rapidly.

Another growl answered from the left. Then another from the right.

My eyes darted around. Shadows moved between the trees. Fast and silently watching me.

My heart slammed against my chest. We weren't alone.

A figure stepped out, a dark, large wolf. Its eyes locked onto me.

Then another appeared and another and another.

They circled me slowly and started closing in.
My breath came out in a low growl. Fear mixed with something else.

Something stronger, something wild. I didn’t understand it.

But it was there. Alive inside me. The first wolf lunged fast, too fast–I barely reacted.

Its body collided with mine, sending me crashing to the ground.

Pain shot through me as its teeth snapped near my neck.

A growl ripped out of me. Instinct took over.
I twisted sharply, my claws slashing across its side.

It yelped and fell back, but another came from behind.

Teeth sinking into my shoulder. I cried out, my body jerking violently as I shook it off.

More wolves rushed in. Everything became chaotic.

I fought. I didn’t know how. I just moved. A wolf came at me from the side, I turned and met it head-on, my jaws clamping down on its neck.

It struggled beneath me. Then went still.

But I didn’t have time to process it. Another hit me, and another, they kept coming.

Too many. Then a powerful howl cut through the chaos. Edward.

He burst into the fight, his body slamming into one of the wolves attacking me.

Kian followed, then Titan and Seraphina.
They moved like they knew exactly what they were doing. They were deadly.

A wolf lunged at Kian, he twisted mid-air, his claws ripping through its side before it even touched the ground.

Titan charged straight into two wolves at once, his massive form sending them flying.

Seraphina moved fast–too fast–her body a blur as she took down another wolf.

I tried to keep up. Tried to fight like them.
But I was still new, still confused and still learning.

A wolf caught me off guard and slammed into me, knocking me into a tree.

The impact knocked the air out of me.
I staggered. Before it could attack again, another body crashed into it. Edward.

My breath caught. He stood between me and the others.

Strong and protective. A low growl rumbled from his chest.

Daring anyone to come closer but they did.

More wolves poured in from every direction. Surrounding us and closing in.

We were badly outnumbered. Kian let out a sharp bark.

A signal. They shifted closer together. Forming a loose circle around me. Protecting me.

My chest tightened. Even now… even after everything… they were still protecting me
.
The wolves came harder, faster and relentless.

A wolf lunged at Seraphina, she ducked low, her jaws snapping upward, catching it mid-air.

Titan took a hit to his side but didn’t fall, he turned and crushed the wolf beneath his weight.

Kian moved like a shadow, striking and retreating, never staying still.

Edward fought like something had been unleashed inside him.

Fierce and unforgiving. Nothing got past him.
But there were too many. They kept coming, wave after wave.

Claws tore through fur. Blood stained the ground. Growls echoed through the forest.

My body ached, my legs trembled. But I kept fighting because I had no choice.

A wolf lunged at me, I turned, my claws catching its face but another came from the side, I didn’t see it in time and then…
A loud sound cut through everything. Car engines. Fast and close.

The wolves hesitated just for a second. Then headlights burst through the trees. Blinding.

Three cars drove straight toward us at a very high speed. The wolves scattered slightly.

The doors flung open. “Elara! Get in!”
Elder Rowan’s voice. I didn’t hesitate.
I ran toward the car. The others followed.

Edward, Kian, Seraphina and Titan. We moved fast.

One by one, they jumped in. I leaped into the back.

The doors slammed shut. “Go!” Titan shouted.
The engine roared and the cars sped off very fast.

Leaving the chaos behind. The wolves gave chase but they couldn’t keep up.

Not with the speed. Not with the distance growing between us.

I collapsed onto the floor of the car, breathing heavily.

My body trembling, my mind spinning. Everything had happened so fast.

And as the car sped through the night, one thing became painfully clear to me. I was now being hunted.
