Chapter 92 CHAPTER 92
Michael's POV
I waited and in those few minutes after I rang the bell, I wondered if it was wise to confront Xavier alone. I convinced myself that there was no other way I could have it done. Saving my woman was my sole responsibility.
I heard footsteps and I placed my palm over the peephole, blocking his view.
“Who is that?” He called out.
“Estate manager rep, Eduardo,” I replied.
He was silent for a while. “I can't see you through the peephole. Can you move towards the window?”
I remained on my spot. “Open the door, Mr Stefan Heart.”
I heard the jingling of keys and then the sound of the lock clicking. I got ready. As soon as the door opened, I pushed it in with all my might, sending him crashing on the floor.
He recognised me instantly. He stuttered and tried to get to his feet. I didn't give him the opportunity. I grabbed him and held his collar tightly until his face turned red. Then I punched him hard across the face, ensuring he lost a tooth or two.
“Where's Evelyn Moon, you bastard?”
He spat out a mixture of blood and saliva. “I don't have her,” he said, defiantly.
“You don't?” I asked, tightening the grip around his neck. He coughed and wheezed and gasped for air. I didn't let him go. If he didn't speak, I was going to kill him.
I felt a stab of cold metal against my side and in that instant, I lost my grip on him and he staggered back. I looked down and saw he had driven some sort of iron into me. Blood pooled around it.
He staggered towards the bar coughing. Then he picked up a bottle and hurled it towards me. I felt my wolf stirring angrily within me. Without restraint, it lurched forward. My bones snapped and my muscles strained, bringing forth my Alpha wolf, a huge black furred wolf.
He snapped his jaw, baring his teeth. Xavier rushed behind the counter in fear.
He moved, oblivious of the pain shooting by my side and reached Xavier in two long strides. The bar collapsed and the drinks crashed to the floor. He held Xavier mid air and his claws drew marks on his face and chest.
“She's upstairs. Please, spare me.”
I was yet to understand how to control my wolf. He was very protective and brutal when it came to Evelyn. Just before Xavier was torn to pieces, I snapped back to my human form. Xavier laid on the floor, his body a beaten mess.
“That's for laying hands on my mate,” I said, stepping away from him.
I went up the stairs and came to a corridor with a couple of doors.
“Evelyn!” I called out. “Where are you?”
“Michael?” I heard her voice, weak but hopeful. "Is that you?”
I moved towards the sound of her voice
“Yes.”
“I'm here,” she cried, tapping on the door I was standing in front.
The door was locked.
“Can you open it from within?” I asked.
“No,” she said. “Xavier has the key. Thank you so much for coming, Michael.”
“I'll be back, Evelyn. Just get yourself ready.”
I found him trying to get on his feet.
“Where is the key?” I asked, moving close to him. I picked him up and searched his pockets. I found the keys. I walked to the main door, locked it and took the key.
“Don't think of going anywhere,” I warned.
I returned to the room and unlocked the door. She was standing behind the door, waiting for me. Her hands were held together with a chain and I felt a stab of pain and anger.
“Did he do this to you?”
She nodded, her eyes welling up.
I took her hands in mine and began to untangle the mess that held them togther. Few seconds later, the chain fell to the ground. I pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her multiple times on her face. She sobbed gently.
“Thank you for coming to rescue me, Michael. I thought I'd ever get out.”
I cupped her chin. “Don't ever thank me for this,” I said. “I should have been here earlier. Look at your eyes. You look sick.”
“I was sick from missing you,” she said.
We kissed gently.
“I know Rosaleen did this,” I said to her. “And I promise you, she'll get her befitting reward. She will regret laying hands on you.”
We cleaned up a little and left the room.
“You'll spend a really long time in jail, Xavier Heart,” I said to him. “It'll give you enough time to think about this evil thing you did.” I leaned closer to him. “Or I could just kill you here instead.”
He flinched and winced in pain.
“Please, forgive me,” he begged weakly. “It was all Rosaleen's idea. She wanted you all for herself. I'll disappear and never show up again.”
I moved away from him. Evelyn noticed my wound just then.
“You are injured,” she said, panicking.
I looked at the metal wedged by my side. I’d forgotten about it for a moment.
“I'll be fine,” I said. “Let's get out of here.”
Jasper arrived a few minutes later. He hurried towards us as we walked slowly towards the car. A big smile was on his face.
“You got the bastard without me,” he said. Then his smile faltered and disappeared when he saw the injury.
“How serious is this?”
“Not very,” I said, even though I was feeling weaker every passing minute. What was most important to me was getting Evelyn to safety.
“We need to take you to a hospital,” he said, supporting my arm on the other side. Then he looked at Evelyn. “I'm so glad you are well and fine, ma'am.”
She stopped suddenly. “I forgot,” she said. “There's someone else in the house.”
“Who?” I asked.
“A nurse who tried to help me. Gwen. I have to get her out.’
I wanted to turn around with her but suddenly the earth tilted and I lost my balance. I slumped on the floor, unresponsive.
