Chapter 85 CHAPTER 85
Evelyn’s POV
The sky turned dark and rain poured. I stood under the rain. A man’s arm was pressed around me, holding me and pulling me closer as we kissed. It was passionate.
I opened my eyes slowly. Then I laid on the bed quietly for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling. It was morning and I had just woken up from the strangest and most beautiful dream ever. I wasn’t sure if it was a memory or just some fantasy.
I closed my eyes again and tried to relive the dream. The door opened and interrupted my day dream.
“You are up?”
It was the nurse, Gwen. I looked at her without saying a word. She moved around the room, setting some things in order and pulling the curtains apart.
“It’s a sunny morning,” she said.
She looked extra happy today. There was a spring to her steps and even her face was glowing. It wasn’t the usual straight-faced Nurse Gwen who slipped in and out of my room without saying more than the required pleasantries.
She sat beside me. “Why are you quiet this morning, Stella?”
I turned to my side. We were back from our day’s trip to Ibiza and she knew nothing of what had transpired there. “My name is Evelyn. Call me that, please.”
“Evelyn?” she asked, raising her brows. “Are you getting your memories back now?” she smiled.
“No,” I said. I caught the band on her ring finger. That could explain why she was exceptionally happy this morning. “Seems you are about to get hitched,” I said. It was the longest sentence I'd ever said to her since she started taking care of me.
She looked at it and her smile widened even more. “He asked me to marry him last night. It’s the happiest thing to ever happen to anyone, Evelyn. To get married to someone you really love.”
I imagined getting married to that imaginary man I'd dreamt about. I couldn’t see myself with Stefan. Or Xavier. Or whatever his real name was.
“How do you know you love him?” I asked.
Her eyes became dreamy. “Oh…It’s easy. They are on your mind when you wake up in the morning and before you sleep at night. You feel butterflies or flutter in your chest and stomach when they touch you. You want to be with them all the time. You can’t imagine life without them in it. I could go on and on.”
I nodded. Xavier didn’t pass any of the tests.
“I’d like to learn a little Spanish,” I said to her. “I feel a little bit left out in conversations."
She patted my hair fondly. “It’s good you are doing this for Stefan,” she said. “I guess that’s how much you love him.”
She was mistaken. I was doing that because I planned to run away.
She placed my morning’s tablets in my hands and brought a cup of water to me. I stared at the pills. “Which of these is for my memory?”
She pointed at the orange pill. “The others are just boosters.”
So, it was the orange pill I had to avoid. When she was not watching, I dropped it into my nightwear and swallowed the rest. She stepped into the bathroom as usual to wash some of the dispenser.
I looked at her phone on the bedside table. I picked it up and opened her internet connection. Xavier had done it once and I suddenly remembered it. I could easily connect to her internet whenever she came around. I typed in her password on my phone and I was connected. I returned the phone to the table.
“Have you been walking around like I told you to?” she asked, placing the dispensers beside the drugs on a silver tray.
“A little,” I said. “I don't mind taking longer walks if you’d go with me.”
“That sounds like a good idea, Evelyn,” she said. “But won’t you prefer to take this walk with Stefan?”
The plan was to have prolonged access to her internet so I could find out as much as possible what Xavier was hiding from me.
“No,” I said. “He’s always busy in the mornings.” I flung my legs out of bed and allowed my feet to settle on the soft rug on the floor. “Moreover, I want you to teach me some Spanish. It’s a surprise for Stefan.”
“I love that,” she said. “We can begin today.”
“I’ll get dressed,” I said, rising to my feet. I took my phone to the closet and typed the name: Rosaleen. There were so many results. I couldn’t decide which was relevant to me. I typed another search word: Rosaleen and Evelyn. There was an article that immediately caught my attention.
“Evelyn Moon,” I called out my full name.
The pictures corresponding to the names were mine and the picture of the woman I had seen at Ibiza. I opened the article and read through it. Evelyn Moon had stolen Rosaleen Blackwood’s products while they worked together at Greywood Industries.
Xavier had mentioned that I had scammed her. Was this what he was referring to?
I read further. The founder of Greywoods Industries, Alpha Raymond Greywood had detached himself from being related to Evelyn Moon and restated what his son had earlier stated. Evelyn Moon had used black magic to go into a contract marriage with his son, Alpha Michael Greywood.
I felt blood suddenly swoosh to my head and I felt a bit dizzy. I leaned against the wardrobe. A contract marriage with Alpha Michael Greywood? Who was he and why did his name make my heart race so fast?
I typed his name on the search engine and a lot of articles came out. I erased it and typed: Alpha Michael and Evelyn Moon. There were pictures of our wedding together. I zoomed in to his face and stared at it. Was he the man I dreamt about this morning?
“Are you ready, Evelyn?” Gwen called out.
