Chapter 86 CHAPTER 86
Michael’s POV
“Are you stepping out?” Rosaleen said, as I bumped into her at the entrance of the room.
“Yes,” I said, moving away. “I have somewhere to be urgently.”
“Where?”
I made no response.
I drove like a madman to the Home. A notification appeared on my phone, confirming that Xavier’s father was from that region that Evelyn had been sighted with him.
The bastard, I cursed.
The matron received me in her office. “One of the cleaners found out that she had woken up while she was cleaning today. She is still a bit confused, but she appears okay.”
We walked to her room. She had been moved to a new cubicle, smaller but better than the last place she had been. She looked strained and her hair was a tangled mess. She looked exactly like someone who had been asleep for many years.
“Anna Moon,” I said, stepping into the room.
She looked at me and smiled as though she had been expecting me. The lines under her swollen eyes and the strands of grey hairs on her head hinted to me that she was at least in her fifties.
“Come, my dear,” she said to me. “I’ve been trying to reach down for the water cup all these while.”
I was surprised to hear her speak so fluently. I looked back at the matron and asked her to give us privacy. Then I reached for the water cup and placed it gently in her hands. Her hands trembled as she lifted the cup to her lips.
When she finished, she looked at me.
“Do you work here too, young man? You are the only good looking person I’ve seen all day.”
I smiled. “No. But you can see me everyday if you want.”
She leaned closer to me. “Actually, I'd like to leave here. Can you get me out?”
I blinked, amused by her sense of humor. She had the same twinkle in her eyes that Evelyn did whenever she was being mischievous. “Why do you want to leave, Anna?” I asked. “Don’t they take care of you?”
She became sad suddenly. “I … I have to look for someone,” she said.
My chest tightened with pain. She was definitely referring to Evelyn. I moved closer and sat on the bed. Then I held her hands and looked at her.
“You are looking for your daughter,” I whispered. “Evelyn Moon.”
“How… how do you know?” she asked.
I squeezed her hand. “Evelyn told me a lot about you. About the dreams she had.”
“Where is she?” she asked, terror in her eyes.
It felt like she knew.
I shook my head. “Thats why I’m here, Anna. I need your help to find her. Someone has taken her away from us. I need to find her.”
She remained silent for a while. Then she said, “Let’s get out of here.”
After a few back and forths, the matron allowed us to leave. “You have to be very careful with her, Alpha Michael,” she warned. “There are stories. Things that could harm your reputation.”
“Don’t worry about that,” I said to her.
I found a hotel and lodged her under my name. I paid for special services and a care nurse that was attached to the room. Each person had to sign a non disclosure agreement that they would never discuss anything about her or they would be arrested.
“I didn’t want to leave her,” she said suddenly, her eyes fixed on the ground. “She was just a tiny baby. The most beautiful gift ever. But Madeline threatened to expose me, so I had to.” She looked at me. “You know right? That I am a nine tailed fox?”
I nodded. “I didn’t abandon her. I left so she could have a chance to live. But Madeline tried to kill me with an iron poison. It sent me into a coma for many years.”
“But you spoke to Evelyn through dreams,” I said. “She saw you in her dreams.”
She shook her head. “Those dreams are normal. They are signs that she is also a nine tailed fox like I am. I was afraid she was going to be like me when she was born, so I sealed her spirit form.”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
“She cannot make contact with her spirit form unless I break the seal,” she said.
A seal. I didn’t understand. I tried to imagine that it was the same thing as binding a wolf.
“Is it the same thing as binding someone’s wolf?”
She bobbed her head sideways. “Almost the same thing. You see, wolves and foxes are not the same.”
I barely knew anything about nine tailed foxes.
“Sealing her spirit form means she would not be able to connect with it or understand it. She hears voices and sees messages that she does not understand, but her fox is still within her.”
I remembered the time she healed spontaneously after she sprained her ankle badly, and I smiled sadly.
“If you break this seal, Anna, will I be able to reach her through the matelink? Evelyn is my fated mate.”
She nodded. “But how did you know? The seal wouldn’t let you know.”
“Yes,” I said. “I didn’t know for a long time. She was close to me for many weeks and I couldn't tell that she was my mate. But she developed a device that was able to link mates to each other with some form of technology. That was how we knew.”
She stood up. “I’ll break the seal, and you’ll be able to find her through the mate link. All she has to do is listen to your voice and speak to you.”
“How…?”
She closed her eyes. “It will happen in stages. The first stage has been done. She knows who she is. The second stage will happen tonight. She will hear her fox’s voice loud and clear and she has to choose it.”
