Chapter 169 CHAPTER 169
Rosaleen’s POV
I sat in my room, waiting for the pleasant news. It was going to make up for the terrible trip I'd had, and maybe, when I look at the ugly scar on my face, I'd feel less angry. I requested for some wine and watched the clock.
Viktor Calderon was a powerful man and I imagined that he would be able to help me with the small problem with alpha Roman. The fact that he had dumped Anna for Lara would buy me enough time. But knowing Alpha Roman, I knew he’d be back soon. And I was going to be ready for him before he thinks of returning to blackmail me.
I watched a movie to keep me awake and asked my maid to keep me updated on anything that was going on in the mansion. By 10pm, she knocked on my door. I was already dozing off in the hammock.
“Alpha Raymond just stepped out suddenly,” she said.
I sat up. “Did anything happen?”
She shook her head. “I don’t know, ma’am.”
I waved her off. “Keep me posted.”
I rose from the hammock and walked to the window. It was a quiet night, like every other night I'd had in the Greywood mansion. Alpha Michael was still out, but I felt a little hopeful tonight. Alpha Raymond would never leave the house unless there was something urgent. I could barely wait for the news to become official by morning, so I started to daydream about it.
The news of the death of the three of them would be spectacular. Even if Evelyn managed to escape death again, her life would become miserable.
I reached for the remaining wine and finished it.
Then I called Alpha Michael. His phone rang and he didn’t pick up. I tried two more times before I stopped. There was also no word from Viktor Calderon. I was dying of suspense. So I took the burner phone and called him. There was also no response.
I realised things could still go the wrong way that night. Afterall, there were three nine tailed foxes. They never ran out of luck.
I decided I needed some more drinks. The maid was not reachable and I hadn't even decided on what I wanted to take. So I grabbed a robe and left the room. As i walked along the quiet corridors, I smiled at my achievement. When I had returned to New York and heard that Alpha Micahel was engaged, it didn’t stop me from pursuing what I wanted. I was living in that dream now.
My dream was interrupted by the sight of Anna in the bar. She was seated alone, head bent over her phone with an empty bottle and another half empty bottle in front of her. She looked so pitiable that it made me extremely happy.
I ignored her at first, scanning for the drink I wanted. I added Anna’s misery to my list of things to celebrate. She had been an ungrateful bitch. I found my wine in a few minutes and spun around. She was watching me with cold eyes. I uncorked my drink and poured some in a glass cup.
“Have you heard from Alpha Roman?” I asked as i took the first sip.
She drew in a deep breath. Then she shook her head.
I took a few more sips. “I have information," I said.
She sat up. “What? Where is he? I haven’t been able to reach him all day.”
“You won’t. Alpha Roman is likely in Milan as we speak, with another woman.”
The information registered slowly in her head. “How… how do you know?”
I took a long sip and smiled behind my cup. “You remember Lara from the trip, don’t you?”
She shrugged. Of course she hadn’t been paying attention. She paid attention to no one but herself.
“Well, if you do remember her or not, it doesn’t matter. Lara is with your man.”
Her lips trembled as though she was having a fit. “Lara? The… the lady…” she couldn't remember her. “Why would she take my man?”
“You threw him out, remember?” i said. “I told you, throwing tantrums won’t ever get you anything, but you don’t listen. He’s gone now, to be with someone who is more matured.”
She rose up. “Please, tell her to leave my man,” she begged. “I’ll give her any amount of money she wants. I don’t care.”
Lara didn’t need her money.
“You can’t buy this one, babes,” I said, walking away. “It’s best for all of us that he isn’t here.”
She yelled my name but ignored her. She would pay the price for turning her back against me.
—
I must have slept off a few minutes into the wine. When I woke up, I had a headache pulsing in my head and I saw the wine bottle had been knocked over with the contents on the bed.
A sharp knock sounded on my door.
I groaned as I looked towards the door.
“Come in.”
It was the maid.
She stood still, concerned as she saw me groaning and holding my head with my fist. I’d taken too much wine.
“Are you alright, ma’am?”
I grunted a reply. “What is it?”
“I wanted to inform you that everyone is back. Alpha Michael and Alpha Raymond."
Suddenly I remembered why I had been drinking. I caught the time on the clock. It was just a few minutes past midnight. I pushed myself out of bed.
“They came with visitors,” she said.
I imagined the visitors were lawyers or police, or whatever.
“Thank you,” I said, slipping into my robe again.
The house was not quiet as I walked down the corridors this time. I heard familiar and unfamiliar voices. Voices that sounded tired and sad. I was so giddy with happiness that I had to practice my sad looking face ahead of when I eventually received the news of the tragedy.
I didn’t need to practise though. When I stepped into the sitting room, I saw Evelyn Moon there cradled in Alpha Michael’s arm. I saw Anna Trent. And I saw Philly. The trio had survived. Again.
