Chapter 170 CHAPTER 170
Roman’s POV
Lara and I could not get enough of each other. She made the unplanned journey to Milan worthwhile. We made love twice in her private jet and once in the bathroom while we waited for clearance.
A car arrived to take us from the hanger to the house and it was on getting to Lara’s house that I realised how wealthy she was. I whistled as I admired the architecture of the building. I couldn't hide how amazed I was.
“This house reeks of old money,” I said.
She laughed and led me in. The staff were waiting for her as we walked in, and she introduced me to each of them. I wondered if she did the same to all the men she brought to her house or if she ever brought anyone to her house.
Then she showed me my room.
“You can spend your time here, as well as any other part of the house,” she said.
I frowned. “Shouldn’t we be in the same room? I’d like to sleep beside you every day.”
She didn’t smile. “My room is out of bounds, Roman,” she said. “You can’t come into my room. If we need to spend time together, I'd come here.”
A thin smile spread across my face. “Understood.”
She nodded. “My son is away with his father for this month. His name is Andrei. I’ll introduce him to you when he comes.”
She spoke to me like she was convinced that I planned to stay. Like I was part of the expensive furniture she had just bargained for and bought at an antique store. I was no one’s property.
I sat down on the bed, legs crossed, wondering when my adventure would end. For now, I could just sit back and relax while Rosaleen did all the dirty work for me. As soon as Alpha Ramond signed the contract, I would be out of Milan. I may not even meet poor Andrei.
I turned on my phone which I had switched off while I was with her to avoid her noticing my suspicious calls with Rosaleen. Having my own room had its perks. At least, I could make my private calls without slipping into the bathroom.
I met tens of messages from Anna on my phone. She was apologising, begging, offering and pleading. I loved it when a woman begged me. I called her.
She picked up almost immediately.
“Roman,” she cried out. “I’m so sorry. Please come back.”
I leaned against the bed rest. “Sorry for what exactly, Anna? Thanks to you, I got to meet someone amazing.”
She groaned. “I’ll stop all my tantrums. I promise you. Please come back.”
I inspected my finger nails and decided they were too blunt. I needed to leave marks on Lara’s body when they dug under her supple skin.
“The problem is I'm already in Milan. What do you have that can lure me back?” I said.
“Anything. Everything. I’ll get that contract you want from my father. I can even ask him to make you a director,” she said.
I laughed. “How about you give me your shares too?”
She sniffed. “I don’t care about the shares if you are not with me. You can have them if you want.”
I knew she was dense, but I'd not expect she’d be this daft.
“I know you’re with Lara,” she continued. “There’s nothing she has that I don't, Roman. She’s too old for you.”
“When you get me that contract, I'll think about it,” I said, and cut the call.
Lara was gone for the whole day. I spent the first few hours occupied in my room. Lunch arrived and I ate in the room. I took a short nap, and then decided that I'd had enough.
I stepped out of the room, trying to remember where she said the pool was until I eventually got lost. I found myself in a room that I assumed was her personal study room. There were stacks of papers piled neatly on her desk. I didn't know she was a corporate lawyer until I went through her documents.
She was not just a corporate lawyer, she was a big shot lawyer in Milan. And she owned her own firm. I whistled again when I saw her monthly income for the previous month. She was stinkingly rich.
I found out she was also venturing into real estate. It awoke something in me. I could stay a little longer in Milan. I’d convinced her that she should make me a partner in her real estate business and if I was still good at my game, I would be owning it in a couple of years.
She returned in the evening, hips swaying and heels clicking on the floor. She had some bags with her which she stretched towards me.
“I got you some stuff,” she said. Then she leaned forward and kissed me.
“How did you spend your day?” she asked.
“I was bored to my bones,” I responded.
She laughed. “Threre are a thousand and one things that can entertain you here, Roman. You just need to ask.”
I stretched the leaflet I had found on her desk towards her. Her eyes narrowed as she collected it. “I found this,” I said. “I’m also into real estate.”
“Are you?”
“Yes.” I watched her. “I’d like it if I could join you in this. It looks like something we’d both be great at.”
She dropped the leaflet on the table. “I’m not taking partners, Roman. I work as a sole proprietor. And if you want to discuss business, you have to speak to me through the right channels.”
I was amused. For a second, I thought she was joking, but she was not.
I felt insulted. She had an impression that I was just a stud with no ambition. She had no idea of who I truly was.
“I will,” I said, forcing a smile.
“Good,” she replied and forced a smile too.
I needed to make sure I had some insurance with Lara. That was the only way I could win. She was determined to keep her wealth to herself. But she had made a mistake by inviting me to her world.
