Chapter 112 CHAPTER 112
Evelyn’s POV
The dizzy spell had started after the call. Then I felt mild nausea and more dizziness at the office. In the heat of the interrogation room, the dizziness became more intense and I felt myself sweating unnecessarily. I asked for some water and just as the officer rose to get it, I swayed on my seat and fell.
I heard the sound of the metal chair scrapping the floor as I gradually lost consciousness. I faintly heard the sound of the ambulance and the rushing of people as I was wheeled in.
When I opened my eyes next, I was lying on a bed and Alpha Michael was standing, facing the window on the opposite side. It seemed he was on a phone call and his muscles were tense.
“Hey,” I called out, my lips feeling parched.
He turned around and dropped the phone into his pocket. “You are up,” he said, walking to my side.
“Yeah,” I said, straining to sit up. “I guess I passed out at the station.”
He sat on the bed. “I shouldn’t have let you go there. No more. You’ll only answer questions at home.”
My hand flew to my tummy. “My baby?” I asked.
He squeezed my hand. “They said not to worry.”
I sighed in relief. “You sounded quite upset on the call. Is everything alright?”
“Yeah,” he said, avoiding my eyes. “Just some …”he flung his hand in the air. “Nothing important.”
I nodded.
“Have you heard from Rosaleen? It seems they are bent on thinking I did it,” I said.
“She is recovering,” he said. “She’ll have to say the truth when she is asked.”
I doubted it. She had intentionally framed me. There was no way she was going to be telling the police the truth.
He raised up the bedside table and dropped a plate. “I bought some food.. You must be hungry,” he said, uncovering it. “As soon as we leave here, we need to go on a massage date.”
I smiled. “Yeah. A massage is all I need right now.”
His phone rang again and I saw the disturbed look on his face. He pulled it out from his breastpocket and stared at the screen for a moment. Then he looked at me. “I’ll be back. Eat up. I’ll arrange for your discharge as soon as I return.”
I nodded and sipped the soup slowly as he walked briskly out of the room. I knew something was terribly wrong.
It wasn’t long before I found out what it was.
Alpha Raymond walked into my room, his pristine presence causing the soup I had eaten to turn sour in my stomach. He looked at me and disgust crawled up on his face. I looked away, uninterested in whatever he had to say. Perhaps he had come to see Rosaleen and only stopped by to say the next mean thing he could pull off his sleeves to me.
“You have finally bewitched my son and ruined him,” he said, not moving an inch from the entrance where he stood. “But I'll make sure you don’t ruin him entirely.”
I said nothing.
“Now that your secret is out, aren't you ashamed?”
I looked at him this time.
He saw the confusion on my face. “Perhaps you haven't seen the news then,” he continued. “But the whole world knows who you really are now, and how you used your evil spells on everyone. Including your step brother. And you tried to kill my son’s wife so you could take her place.”
I felt my heart pace faster. He wasn’t talking straight but I had an idea of what he was talking about.
“Your days in this city are numbered. Very soon, you’ll be sent to where you truly belong and I'll do everything within my power to ensure you suffer as much as you have made my family suffer.”
He turned away and walked out.
I looked around for my phone. When I couldn’t find it, I searched for the TV remote. And I found the news. There was a lot of backlash from the people. They wanted Alpha Michael to divorce me or else they would not vote for his father. I understood his anger now, and I understood why the police officers had held me for so long. I also understood why he was worried on that phone call.
I switched it off.
Maybe it was time for us to leave everything behind and leave the city. It was the only way.
—
My mother arrived before Alpha Michael. She had heard of the incident at the company, and when she got to the police station, she was told her daughter was at the hospital. She looked weary when she walked into the room. I knew what was in her mind. She had warned me to stay away from the Greywoods.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
I mumbled a reply. “I know what you are thinking, mum. You are right, but he’s not like them.”
She said nothing. Her eyes fell on the empty food plate. “What was the problem?"
“The doctor said I was just tired. He asked me to rest a bit and eat some food.” I looked at her. “I love him despite everything. I can tell the truth to you, mum.” I sighed. “I signed a contract with him months ago when we needed some money at home, and he wants me to finish the terms of the contract.”
“How long?” she asked.
“About six months left.”
I knew what she was thinking. She needed to leave town with her sister. It was the best option for them. Someone tapped on the door and pushed it open. It was a nurse.
“I’m here for your medication,” she said. “Please, excuse us,” she said to my mum.
She walked out quietly. “I’ll get some food.”
The nurse dropped her tray and pulled out a syringe. I watched her. I felt a bit of panic seeing that needle. “What is that for?” I asked.
She swung towards me and placed her hand over my mouth and quickly, she pushed the content of the syringe into my arm.
