Chapter fifteen

Chapter fifteen

Daniel's POV

I felt extreme loss and pain deep in my chest and I wondered where the hell this was coming from. I was in a meeting with Abigail's father.

"You were supposed to give me the productive sister. Why did you give me someone who can't bear my pups?"

His eyes darted from one corner of the room to the other telling me that he knew what he was doing but was just pretending like he didn't know.

I was annoyed at the way things were going. I wasn't getting any younger and the council was on my neck to produce an heir. As much as I hated the sight of that girl, I also knew that I couldn't do without an heir. It was going to stop my reign.

"Alpha Daniel, I promise you that I am actually working to make sure that everything turns out exactly the way you want and the way we agreed. I wouldn't give you my daughter if I didn't think that she was capable of bearing your pups."

His eyes glazed over as he remembered something. "You know what's even better? She's a virgin."

My ears perked at the statement. How could a sane man pass up that delicious lady? I would have done more than kiss her that night if I didn't stop. No wonder she was turned on by the tiniest thing.

"You don't say..." I replied and he nodded proudly.

"Actually, I do. I know that she's my kid and I shouldn't be saying this but you would enjoy someone like her more than Jedidiah because she is already being intimate with a man. I know that you don't like sharing."

Now, while I received that information without any bias, I felt weird discussing such topics with any man in particular, especially her father.

This told me that something was wrong somewhere. Wasn't he the real father? I wouldn't tell any man too many of my daughter's secrets. "Moving on, we need to talk about the land that's going to be taken away from you soon. I won't be joining in the fight because I have bigger fish to fry. If you remember the clause in the contract, I would only help you out of volition. I'm not obligated to keep in touch with your Pack for no reason." I reminded him.

He was very lucky that I wasn't in a bad mood because that wouldn't be too good. I was thinking about the next thing that I could do to get out of mating with that girl. The mere fact that she was still chaste made me want to keep her still pure. It was madness which I was aware of but I couldn't stop myself. It was either that or I found a way to make sure that everything went on smoothly.

I looked up abruptly and shook my head at his stupidity. " When are you going to pay my levy?"

"I-I will pay it next week sir."

The second child walked into the room swaying seductively but I was pissed by the action. "Good afternoon, Alpha Daniel, what may I offer you?"

"Wasn't she the one who was sleeping with her sister's mate?" What the hell was she proposing? Did she think that I was a part of the category of people who were hungry for sex? I had women at my Beck and call. I didn't find myself attracted to her.

Her father watched the interaction carefully. "I'm sorry, sir. I didn't know that you were busy, I'll just return another time."

"Wait, you are the new Alpha why are you absent from the meeting?"

Her eyes darted toward her father and I shook my head at her spinelessness. She didn't have spunk. I could smell the fear from miles away. Her sister was also afraid the first day that she met me but there was something else beneath that fear.

"Yes, I was just trying to meet up with a few people from the market who are complaining about their goods being seized by bandits. I'll join you soon."

I flicked my hand in her direction and she knew what it meant, it was supposed to be a test to see how strong she was but she failed woefully.

Her father rubbed a hand across his face and I knew that he understood what just happened. She needed training but I won't teach him how to make his daughter strong. Her weakness was to an opponent's joy.

"I'm sorry about that, Alpha Daniel."

"Oh, you better be. I need that money tomorrow." I replied and walked out of his office.

It was time to go home, the Packs that I was visiting were for a reason. That stupid boy that came that day. I needed to know what his plans were and where he ran to. It must be from a Pack that they didn't expect I'd visit.

Since no one knew my movement it would be very hard for them to really pinpoint where I was heading next.

I called Jake. "Give me the reports of the Pack."

"Good afternoon, Alpha. There is nothing wrong with the Pack, only that Abigail has been imprisoned for stealing the Luna's necklace. She didn't even flinch when she was being flogged. She can hardly breathe yet she didn't shed a tear."

That explained what I felt earlier. Why was Laurie acting this way? Was punishing the girl not enough?

"tell Laurie to release her and treat her wounds."

"Sir?"

"You heard me."

I hung up. What was her problem? It wasn't even as though I liked her. It was just a very damning situation and I was still contemplating what use I had for her. Since it was obviously not for breeding purposes, anyone could think that it was something serious either.

I had a lot on my mind. "No one knows what I am doing right? Make sure that you allocate appropriate allowance to Laurie and the rest women."

"I will do that sir."

As soon as I hung up, my phone rang again and I glanced at the caller ID. It was none other than the lovely Luna. What else did she have to say this time?

"What is the problem, Laurie?"

"That's no way to greet your Luna, Alpha." She took on a teasing tone. I wasn't in the mood for all this nonsense because I was angry at what she did to those people.

"Why did you put that girl through all of that? You know that she didn't steal that jewelry why did you frame her? I know that you're jealous of her but that's uncalled for."

"I don't know what you take me for Daniel. You've known me for what? Twenty years and counting and you still say this about me? That's absurd, and completely out of point, I can't even fathom this. It's weird. I don't have anything against her. It's her life to live however she likes. I am just trying to make sure that I am getting my priorities right and not slacking in any way. Is that too much of a big deal?" She replied.

I wasn't moved by her words. I knew that she harbored deep-seated hatred for that girl, if she fooled everyone she didn't fool me. " You better say the truth and let's know what exactly the problem is." I prodded.

She sighed angrily.. well I didn't care. I wasn't here to please her at all.

"Are you sure that you are not talking about me? I am not the one who is always stopping people from doing what they want to. I didn't bring a man to the house and just say. Oh, well he's just to give me babies. Aren't you satisfied with me? After all these years? You have lots of concubines everywhere yet I never complained for a day "

"Exactly the point. I have concubines. See her as one of them. I won't have a repeat of this conversation with you. I would act like this never happened but I promise that I won't take it lightly with you if it happens again."

There was something different about Abigail, I didn't want her to be tainted so I better stay away. She would be subjected to a life of constantly looking over her shoulder.

"I will not do that anymore," Laurie replied in a sour tone.

"Good, now I've told Jake to send your allowance. Go shopping as usual. I see that you've been unhappy lately." I said and she giggled.

Women loved shopping but Laurie's love was over the top. Sometimes I wondered if she thought about anything else except shopping.

"Good to hear that. Thank you so much, darling... I love you to the moon and back!"

I rolled my eyes. Of course, she loved money. "Good to hear that."

I evaded the love part because I knew that deep down what I felt for her was respect.

I flipped open the next page of my journal. "it is time to find out who you really are Abigail."
