Author's POV
Jedidah hid behind the door watching Alpha Daniel leave. He exuded sheer power and grace and all that she could say was wow. He was a delectable specimen. Her sister was lucky to have him.
"No, I have James." She chided herself when she saw that she was beginning to lust after him. She didn't want a scenario where James would begin to think that she was cheating on him. He was a jealous lover.
Her father cleared his throat, "I hope it's not what I'm thinking."
She snapped out of her trance and came out of the shadows. He had already caught her and was going to make sure that she wasn't burying her head in the clouds.
"What did you say again?" She replied, acting like she hadn't just been temporarily lusting over the gorgeous lycan. There were few things that made her admire certain people, one of which was the fact that she was about to be with the most amazing men on earth. They were supposed to have their wedding soon.
"Dad, I didn't know that you were here." She replied and he stared at her for a minute before shaking his head.
She needed no soothsayer to tell her that he was not proud of her behavior but who was she to stop herself from admiring a real man when she saw one. It was non-negotiable. Alpha Daniel had that air of knowing everything that made her sometimes wonder if he truly did. It was a lovely experience for someone like her because she didn't know how to deal with certain versions of him.
"You know that it's not right to think of another man other than your mate, don't you?" Her father asked her.
She rolled her eyes in response. Well, it wasn't as though she was doing anything bad. She was just...
"Please don't give me that nonsense, whatever it is you feel for that man, kill it before it crushes you. I won't have you disgrace me like some cheap child. He was here to remind us of our levy if you didn't hear that and right now that means that we have a lot of tasks ahead of us. We need to get that money tomorrow or else Daniel would go hard on us."
Jedidiah stared at him but she didn't hear a thing that he said. " Oh, really? I would have sworn that he wasn't here to drain us at all. But didn't we give him some money last week? Why is he constantly asking us for money? It's not as if we pick this money from the trees do we? Even if we did, I'm sure he knows that it's not that easy to get everything up and running so quickly so he should please take it easy on us. I don't want to have any stress with him. Why is he making life difficult for us already?"
Her father stared at her like she had lost her mind. "You are going nuts. What's giving you the confidence that makes you speak to people the way you please? I hope you know that you don't have any other choice than to make sure that you get what you need to be done as fast as possible?"
"Yeah, I know that, that's why I'm also thinking about it now. I think that I need to be able to get out of my head for a minute and try to see what I can do with my life. Thanks for reminding me Dad." She retorted.
Her father pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance. She had a peculiar way of annoying him. "You aren't a child for crying out loud, you're a grown up woman, you're an Alpha. These people depend on you to live and survive but you're busy, very active in making sure that you don't get anything done. I can't even wrap my head around it."
Jedidiah didn't like the way her father was speaking to her like a toddler. She felt like he was mounting too much pressure on her. " Dad, I'm getting things under control, I feel like you're making not so subtle comparisons and that pisses me off. I can't even help the fact that I'm wondering what would happen if I make any step because you never fail to remind me that my sister is better. Now I'm not even angry at that because it's none of my business but..."
Her father growled, stunning her into silence. Although he was the former Alpha, she was also the new one but she had to give him the respect he deserved, he was her father for heaven's sake so that should count for something.
"Why do you think that I'm not even ready for what is about to happen? If you would believe in me enough, you would see that I had already met with all the elders and that we've discussed the way forward."
Her father raised a brow. "What was the conclusion?" He prodded. It was a statement of mockery but she didn't understand. It was the twitch of his lips that told her what he was thinking.
"Wait a minute, do you think that I'm not capable of handling the pack? If it was so, why did you hand over the Pack to me? You should have allowed the one who is more capable to run it." She replied with a sneer.
He shook his head. She would never understand what it meant and how it felt to have one's daughter running certain positions. He wasn't ready to let the cat out of the bag yet so she better get better at guess work because that seemed like the only thing that was going to help her out. Also, he didn't have much time to begin a conversation in that direction.
He faced her squarely. "Now this is your first test. You're an Alpha, make sure that the money is provided before the morrow and I'll take you seriously."
