Chapter Thirteen

Abigail's POV

"Abigail!"

I looked up from my chore when I heard my name. Lo, it was the Luna descending from the stairs once again yelling my name from the top of her voice. Did she ever get some rest? I wondered. I knew that it could be a lot when another lady was brought into the pack to be one's husband's breeder but if truth be told, she wasn't the only one who he was seeing.

That made me even question the kind of relationship that they had with each other. It was quite amusing that she was about to kill herself over a man who was more like a community prick, just the high-profile one.

"Yes, Luna."I bowed to stay out of the trap that she had obviously set for me.

Her slippers hit the ground noisily and I sighed. For a Luna, she was too classless. Was it only me or did I feel like it wasn't right for people to earn respect instead of command it? Which was what she was aiming for.

"You heard me call twice before you responded.

"There we go again." I muttered under my breath. It was as though she always looked for reasons to make noise. I was working for the other Luna's or concubines but never had they even spoken harshly toward me. Mine was to make sure that their apartments were cleaned while they didn't even recognize me.

"I didn't hear you call me, ma'am," I replied in a respectful tone but knowing the kind of person she was, I knew that she wouldn't hear that. It was always the negative things she was too quick to hear and respond to.

Her gaze narrowed at me and her face contorted into a sneer as she gave me a stink look. Well, well, well, I didn't mind her looks or manners. She was just looking for all means to get on my very last nerve but I was wiser than her.

"You must be growing deaf then. Are you the one who wants to bear the heir to this pack? We don't want any of the Alpha's children to lose their ability to hear."

I snorted, "As if you're any better."

"What did you just say?!" She yelled again and I rolled my eyes at her annoying screech. She was like a banshee, if I were Alpha Daniel, I wouldn't have chosen this noisy lady as my Luna. I heard that she was like. the favorite consort, hence the reason for her pride.

"You keep staring at me with those ugly eyes and watch me as I poke my hands. You'd become totally useless."

I kept my thoughts to myself this time around, I knew she was fishing for something while I also planned my escape. It would be so subtle that they wouldn't know when it happened.

"You're wanted at the Alpha's quarters. I hope you don't go there to disrespect yourself because I'm sure you know what would happen if you do that."

My eyes rolled involuntarily, I was sure that my whole body was tired of the disrespect and mental abuse that she was wont to shower on me daily.

My legs were weaker than normal because I was experiencing my period and I usually had heavy flow, since I didn't have a wolf, I possessed more human characteristics.

I guess they had to deal with me that way. "I don't know what else you are waiting for. Are you deaf too?"

"I'm trying to finish up with this." I motioned to the ceramic plates that I was arranging and she ran towards me and smacked me across the face.

A hard sound that could make even sinners repent. "You dare question my orders, who the hell are you? Who gave you that right?! When did you suddenly grow wings and try to tell me what to do in my own house?"

Another smack followed but I kept staring at her. They were weak. She was a weak female like Jedidiah my sister, they were only quick to project themselves as what they weren't.

"You don't feel any remorse, heh?" She questioned but I was still staring at her. She was tempting me to unleash my demons on her but I kept my cool. I knew how the Pack rank worked. She was at the top of the food chain no matter what. I was the one who was supposed to make sure that I was also comfortable at the base of the pyramid.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I'll just clean it up."

If she wanted to break me, she sure had a long way to go. My father had betrayed me, who else was left that couldn't act as wolves did?"

"You think that you can report me to the Alpha, huh? I will show you that I'm greater than you in all aspects and I will make sure that you don't remember what it feels like to have a life. I will break you. I will make you like chaff before the wind. Your piece of shit!"

I was quiet throughout her verbal onslaught because I had other plans. Moreover, I was still thinking about my former pack. If I absconded now that I hadn't had my way, I would be caught and brought back to this Pack as a traitor which would even be worse given the circumstances.

"What are you thinking about?" She demanded.

Why don't you climb into my head and find out yourself? I was pushed to retort but I helped myself back from committing any crime. I was sure that I was going to beat her in combat but I didn't need to test that out. Unleashing my strength had to be worthwhile, probably the day that I was leaving this pack for good.

"You make sure that you clean that mess you made and appear at the Alpha's quarters in five minutes."

"And pigs fly." I coughed.

Her eyes narrowed in my direction but I wore an innocent look. People might say that I was egging her on but it was actually the opposite. She was filled with indignation toward me and I didn't know what I did to warrant such anger. It was as if I had done something to her in the past.

I finally mopped the floor, my head was beginning to spin from lack of food for two days. She wanted me to beg her for food but I had other plans. If only I could get into the kitchen tonight, I would eat some leftovers before anyone could figure out.

As I passed the flower bed, I bumped into someone and I rubbed my nose. He was clean-shaven and I blinked when I gazed into his eyes. He looked familiar and I tried to place my finger on where I knew him when I heard a growl and jumped away from the man.

"Get in." Jake said and I walked away from the stranger, he was very handsome, why did I think that he was familiar? it was probably hunger that was making him look kind of attractive.

Jake fell into step with me and I rolled my eyes knowing that I was in for a grilling session. " You shouldn't be admiring other guys, instead, you should focus on getting that child implanted in your womb."

Gee, thanks. What a way to remind me that I was only a breeding machine to his Pack. Whabam thank you, sir.

"We bumped into each other, I was not ogling him." I protested but his growl silenced me.

As soon as I opened the door, I felt a sense of loss. It was easy to figure out, that Alpha Daniel was absent. To my dismay, I felt a bit stumped by his absence.

I guess it was the bond that was making me feel this way. Why would I miss someone who didn't care about my well-being? I was his mate for crying out loud! Maybe he didn't know...

'Wow, you're now making excuses for him now?" I mocked myself.

"You don't think that he would want to end up with the Alpha's breeder, do you? You know that it's insane and impossible but you'll rather feed yourself with cheap thrills. You better make sure that the Alpha doesn't get wind of this information. He would be returning in a week so you have to make sure that his rooms are well tidied. who knows the ladies he would bring over this time?"

Jake mattered the latter part as an afterthought.

It was very draining hearing the same thing every time. They never had any good thing to say except for the fact that he was going to make me his breeder.

I was more than just that but I guess my lack of wolf was blinding their eyes to that fact.

This even got to more than it should. I was not just going to be relegated to this position. I didn't even blame them because it was my father's fault. He was the most selfish person that I've ever had the misfortune to meet in my life. It was a very great problem but I was determined to make a difference out of my life. It was either I escaped or...

A growl jolted me out of my thoughts. Jake's furious eyes glared at me and I felt very anxious. What could be the issue now? Why the hell was he staring at me like I had committed a heinous crime?

"You aren't supposed to stand outside of the house for more than five minutes. Now we are going to have to fix that sprinkler."

His words didn't make any sense to me until I saw a cell phone in his hands. Oh, so he was on the phone. What if I stole a phone to call a friend?

The problem was who did I know was trustworthy? A lot of people were wolves in sheep's clothing and they didn't have any iota of decency to hide it. I'd rather plot my dignitary escape than be betrayed again.

I walked into the house slowly and was amazed by the attention to detail. Every object in the house told a story or maybe it was my creative eye that was seeing something where it wasn't.

I didn't know where the cleaning instruments were located. So I waited for Jake before I spoilt something or incurred the Alpha's wrath. If Laurie acted that way I could only imagine how Daniel would react. It would almost be like I was releasing a tsunami on myself. I just needed to be very careful about my movement.

Jake walked in as though I had summoned him. It was good that I waited because of the way he was staring at me.

"Raise your hands." He ordered and I obeyed while staring at him warily.

"Good."

I was stunned by his words. Was he indirectly insinuating that I was a pilferer? I mean, I had just set foot in this house, he couldn't be serious!"

"Are you still standing?" He inquired and I remained rooted to the spot. "The store is down the hall. The last room on your left." He described and I moved instantly.

I guess when I was leaving he'd search me thoroughly. This was a Pack filled with wolves so they had no problem with nudity.

After three laborious hours, I finally finished cleaning all the rooms, washing the toilet, and making sure that the house was sparkling. I was sweating like I had been placed in a burning calf used to murder prisoners.

Jake was nowhere in sight so I decided to go back to my room. But I was left in a dilemma. How would I be able to lock the house? I needed to give him the key.

I later jammed the door hoping that no one would have the guts to sneak to his house.

When I arrived at my quarters, I found a group of maids standing outside and throwing my clothes outside.

"What is going on here?" I called.
