Chapter 114

Hunter.

"The message has been sent," Aurora said as soon as she barged into my place.

"How many times do I have to tell you to knock before barging into my place like you own the place? Do you and your boyfriend not know the meaning of common courtesy?" I snapped at her and she hissed.

"If you're worried that I'm ever going to come in here and find you naked, then rest assured that I won't act awkwardly since it wouldn't be the first time I'll be seeing you naked," she replied.

"Is that supposed to make me feel any better?" I asked.

"Not exactly, my dear. It's just a reminder that I don't care to knock before coming in here and until you get married, it's gonna keep being this way," she replied and I just knew that arguing with her about this was going to end up being a fruitless conversation.

Sighing, "What brings you here?" I asked.

"Didn't you just hear what I said when I came in? I came here to tell you that the message has been sent and all we have to do now is await a response that we both know isn't going to be pleasant," she answered and I immediately understood what she was talking about.

"What did the letter say?" I inquired.

"What else is it supposed to say? I simply mentioned that Helene doesn't want to go back home because she's choosing to stay back with her mate who are you, the Alpha, and I also kind mentioned that she is the next Luna so she has responsibilities to take care of here and cannot return to her family at the moment," she explained and I nodded understanding.

"Can't believe this is happening," I muttered.

"What can't you believe?" she asked.

"Well, it's still surprising to me how everything has changed overnight and I would have sworn to myself a few weeks ago that I would never claim another woman as my Luna but here I am, agreeing with the fact that Helene was the next Luna," I replied and she scoffed.

"She was the true Luna to begin with and you were the one who just wasted everybody's time by trying to put someone else in an undeserved position and claiming that you were making the best choice. I don't understand how it took you so long to finally snap out of that unfortunate phase but I'm happy you made the right decision cause to be honest, I was planning to snap your head off should you have chosen to stick to that brat, Brenda," she remarked and I chuckled.

"As great of a decision as you guys think it is, it wasn't an easy one for me to make and I'm still finding it quite difficult to just take it all in because it still feels very surreal to me. I genuinely believed that I was going to spend the rest of my life with Brenda and the fact that things had to end so suddenly just isn't sitting well with me," I expressed.

"Speaking of that brat, I heard that she already left," Aurora mentioned and I'm confused.

"What are you talking about, Aurora? What do you mean she left? I haven't heard anything like that," I said, not understanding what Aurora was talking about.

"Oh, you haven't been informed yet? I heard from one of my men that she was seen leaving the pack very early this morning and she had a much bigger bag than the usual bags she travels with, which can only mean that she decided to leave after you dumped her," she explained and my stomach fell.

I could not believe that Brenda would just pack up and leave like that and I didn't want to believe it because it just wasn't making any sense.

Even though things would have certainly remained the same no matter what, I was still expecting Brenda to come and try to have a conversation with me and I was also hoping that she and I could talk because I just didn't like how things ended yesterday and I wanted an opportunity to just have a final conversation with her.

"That doesn't make any sense though! Why would she just pack up and leave like that without even letting me know that she was leaving or at least having a conversation with me after how things ended yesterday?" I wondered out loud and Aurora looked at me like I had grown another head.

"Did you just ask why she chose to leave instead of having a conversation with you? Do you not know the kind of person Brenda is? How do you expect her to want to speak to you when you broke up with her and even went as far as telling her that you were going to finally claim your mate? Did you think she was going to be happy for you and then come back to smile at you the very next day?" she asked and I sighed.

"It's not like I was expecting her to forgive me or want to be on good terms with me but I didn't want our story to end like that because I felt like she still needed to hear from me and regardless of what she did and how she went about things, she still deserved an apology from me because I broke my promise to her and she must have felt hurt by my choice," I explained.

I wasn't expecting Aurora to understand where I was coming from because she never liked Brenda and she probably would not see a reason why Brenda deserved an apology from me even though I'm now fully aware that wasn't exactly a good person, I still felt bad because I promised her that I was never going to leave her side but I broke my promise by ending things with her in the worst possible way.

"I'm not going to criticize you because I can understand why you're thinking like this but the sooner you get over it, the better it's going to be for you, my dear. Brenda made her mistakes and you had to make a decision that you felt was right for you so you don't need to feel guilty about it. She was going to leave whether you liked it or not because she's somebody that has a lot of pride and her pride wasn't going to let her stay here after getting replaced," Aurora said and she had a point.

"I still wish things didn't have to end like this. I genuinely want everything to go well for Brenda because she was an important part of my life and it's saddening that I couldn't do anything to help her become a better person even after spending years with her," I said.

She sighed.

"Hunter dear, when are you finally going to realize that you can't exactly change people and you're not responsible for the choices that they make? No matter how hard you tried, Brenda was bound to turn out as a horrible person because she has always been a horrible person but you couldn't see past the good you wanted to see in her because you supposedly loved her. It's time for you to stop acting like an idiot and just forget everything once and for all,"

"You can't keep acting like this and outrightly saying that you wished you could have had a conversation with Brenda because it's only going to make Helene feel bad and you can end up making her think that you still have some sort of feelings for your ex-girlfriend and that is why you're still sulking over how things ended between you guys," Aurora replied.

I certainly wouldn't want Helene to feel bad about being with me or thinking that I still had feelings for me because that wasn't the case at all and the only thing I felt for Brenda was just guilt because I could have handled things so much differently if I had just made the right decision on time.

"Anyway cousin, there is no need to keep crying over spilled milk. Your relationship with Brenda is over and now you have every right to be happy with the woman that the moon goddess has destined you to be with. You also need to make her feel secure about your relationship because she's not going to think that your heart belongs to her one hundred percent until you do something to prove that to her," she advised and I knitted my brows in confusion.

"And how exactly am I supposed to do that?" I asked.

"Is that a question for me? How am I supposed to tell you how to make your mate feel like you genuinely want to be with her? You're the one that's going to figure out how to do that and you should figure it out soon because you wouldn't want her to keep waiting for you while believing that you're still hung up on Brend. How about you try talking to her and getting to know her sincerely? I don't think you two have ever done that, so try," she suggested and the whole thing was just making me dizzy.

I now had to figure out a way to assure Helene that I only had eyes for her and if there's one thing that I'm not very good at, it's figuring out how to deal with women especially when it comes to proving my emotions to them.

I've only ever been with Brenda all my life so I didn't get to experience dating randomly or knowing how to deal with women and please them. Brenda never really needed to be pacified or reassured and even when I had to do something for her, it couldn't be anything grand because of the circumstances of our relationship.

"You know I suck when it comes to dealing with women," I groaned in frustration and Aurora chuckled.

"You'll figure it out, big boy," she patted me lightly on the shoulder and I just knew she wasn't going to give me any further advice which meant that I was left to figure out a way to let Helene know how important she was to me.
