Chapter 113
Brenda.
Nothing and no one around me was safe.
I was so livid to the point where I kept kicking and turning over everything that showed up in front of me and if anyone dared to say a word to me right now, I was very much capable of committing murder. That's how furious I was.
The fact that Hunter dared to break up with me even after all these years and he did it without any sort of remorse at all made me feel betrayed and used and I just couldn't believe that my relationship of over ten years ended in such a disappointing way.
I was even more annoyed by it, not just because it happened so suddenly, but because even when Keisha had warned me that I shouldn't be so confident that Hunter was incapable of breaking up with me, I swore to her that her fear would never come to past because I was very confident that Hunter wasn't capable of doing something like that to me.
A strong feeling of loss and confusion overwhelmed me and I had no idea how or what next I was supposed to do. My relationship with Hunter was everything that I had and everything that I held onto and the fact that it ended so abruptly just because of one pest that just had to show up, made me feel even more insulted and embarrassed.
How was I ever going to face anyone here? Hunter knew that they were all waiting for us to break up and he just did exactly what they wanted and gave me up to them on a silver platter. Now, I'm never going to stop being a subject of mockery for those bastards and it's all because of Hunter and that bitch Helene.
The only thing I could do right now was speak to somebody and the best person I could speak to was my mother since I haven't been able to reach Keisha since earlier today.
I looked around everywhere for my phone, scattering and throwing around every little thing that was in my way and not caring if I was going to damage anything.
After what felt like hours, I finally found the stupid phone and I quickly picked it up to dial my mother's number.
"Hey sweetie," she greeted after picking up on the third ring and as soon as I heard her voice, I burst into uncontrollable tears.
"Brenda, what's wrong? What happened?" she asked worriedly but I was too busy crying very loudly to the point where I could not even form any words to respond to her.
The thought of mentioning to someone else out loud that Hunter broke up with me just hit me so hard and made the entire situation feel even more real. I suddenly felt my chest clog and I was finding it difficult to breathe properly.
"Brenda, listen to me, I don't know what is wrong with you but you better snap out of it this second and tell me what happened and what is making you cry!" Mom yelled harshly and although that was the last thing I needed right now, I could understand that she wasn't aware of why I was crying and she was probably desperate to get me to talk to her.
"H…he…he broke…," I was about to answer but the words got stuck in my throat and voicing them just felt like an impossible task.
"Be clearer, sweetie. What happened? What did that bastard Hunter do to you?" she asked.
I sighed. I took in a deep breath and let it out slowly so that I could finally gain control of myself and speak more clearly.
"He broke up with me, mom," I finally managed to stutter a response and for a few long seconds, there was silence at the other end of the call and I couldn't predict what my mother could be thinking right now.
"How'd it happen?" she asked, after a while of not saying anything.
"I still can't bring myself to understand it, mom. One second, we were arguing about the fact that I had seen him with Helene and then he suddenly brought up that he knew I was the one that reported Helene's location to her father. Our argument just kept going and he mentioned that he was going to announce Helene as his mate and keep her by his side. I asked where that left me and told him that doing that would mean he was ending our relationship and he told me to suit myself," I explained.
The more I explained the situation out loud, the angrier I got because it just kept dawning on me that Hunter had already decided that he was going to kick me to the curb by announcing that Helene was his mate and he didn't care about how that would make me look.
It just made me realize that he already made up his mind before I even went to speak to him that he was going to end our relationship but he was too much of a coward to do it the proper way so he just had to find an excuse for himself to justify his actions.
"So what you're saying in essence is that our decade-long plan of putting you in the position of Luna has come to an end and you're telling me that bastard had the guts to end things with you just like that?" mom asked.
I didn't know whether to be disappointed that my mother was more concerned that I was no longer going to be Luna or to be understanding because I knew why she desperately wanted me to get to that position.
"Yes, mom! He dumped me like a shameless bastard without even considering the many years that we spent together and you want to know what's worse? It's the fact that he doesn't even rate my intelligence enough and he thinks that I'm going to believe his stupid excuses when it's obvious that he's dumping me to go be with that girl. I have never been so embarrassed in my entire life, mom," I replied, tearing up all over again and the thought.
"Oh no, you won't, Brenda. I didn't raise you to become a woman who cries over a man," mom hissed sharply and I knew better than to keep crying and expecting consolation for my mother.
"So what now mom? Isn't everything over? Have I not gotten to a point where I have nothing anymore and there is absolutely nothing I can do to get what I lost back? What am I supposed to do now? How and where do I go from here?" I asked, not knowing how to even start my life all over again.
"Nothing is over just yet, sweetie. Just because one door happens to close doesn't mean there isn't any other door that can get you to your destination," mom responded and I'm confused.
"What are you talking about mom? What other door is there for me? It's not like there is only another way to become Luna besides marrying Hunter. What else can I do now to change things?" I questioned.
"As much as I wanted you to become Luna of that pack, I didn't put all my eggs in that basket because I knew that idiot wasn't trustworthy enough and I've made sure to have a backup plan just in case things didn't go our way," she told me and I'm even more confused.
I'm aware that my mom always has something up her sleeve but I just didn't understand what other plans she could have come up with. As far as I knew, the reason she wanted me to become Luna was so that I could gain enough power to bring our family's name out of the gutter and restore her authority.
She wanted to come back here and she needed a very solid reason to be able to come back and that position would have given me enough power to bring my mother back here without having to be questioned by anyone but now that I can no longer get to that position, I see no other means of restoring our family's reputation and bringing her back.
"A backup plan? What is it?" I asked.
"You're going to find out very soon my dear. For now, I want you to stop crying like a little girl because now isn't the time for you to dwell on something that has already happened. The first thing you're going to do is pack your bags as lightly as you can and get out of that place," she instructed.
I frowned. "You want me to leave the pack?" I asked.
"Well, do you intend on staying there and enduring the embarrassment you're going to have to face when people find out that your relationship with Hunter is over? There is no longer any reason for you to be in that place because there's something else you need to do now since that plan has failed and I can show you that you're going to find it very interesting," she replied, piquing my curiosity.
"Okay fine, mom but at least give me an idea of what you're talking about," I demanded and she sighed.
"You were born to be powerful, Brenda and if you can't get that power there, there's always somewhere else you can get it without having to worry about another intruder and now that Hunter has abandoned you, he's going to have to deal with the bloodbath that follows cause the only thing that kept it away in the first place, was you, sweetie," she said and I'm even more confused by her random response.
"What the hell are you going on about, mom?" I asked, not exactly liking where this was headed.
"Come home quickly and you'll find out," she sharply replied and hung up before I could say anything else.
What does my mother mean by a bloodbath and what power am I getting elsewhere? I wondered to myself, feeling both curious and afraid at the thought of what my mother had in store for me.
