Conflict among them
Conflict among them
BERNARD’S POV
My twin and I ate in silence which was unusual, we always had something to discuss while eating but today was an exception, it’s actually been a while since we ate together.
I didn’t know if it was just me or Basil and I were slowly drifting apart, it ought not to bother me just like it wasn’t bothering him but it bothered me.
“Get me the Beta” With a mouthful, he ordered the guard standing not so far away from us.
My undivided attention was on my meal which was right in front of me, I didn’t want my eyes and his to lock or he might see through me and realize that I was bothered about us.
The Beta was here and I could tell because his scent filled my nostrils, I still refused to raise my head but I knew the Beta’s head was bowed at the moment.
“What do we have to do for today?” My ears caught Basil’s voice,
“Your meeting with the pack elders will commence in an hour and some minutes from now” he responded in a loud tone, he must have done that so I could hear.
“Will that be all for today?” Basil inquired,
“No. You have to be in the town hall” The Beta, Beta Brandon replied.
I had totally forgotten about that, I assumed the only thing we would be doing today was meeting with the elders of the pack.
“What else?“ Basil asked, it seemed he had plans for himself today.
“You have a meeting with the foreign investors and after that, you have a meeting with the families of the pack soldiers that lost their lives on the battlefield” Beta Brandon announced, I must say our schedule for today is a tight one.
“I’m guessing that’s all” Basil’s words,
“No, the members…”
“Is it fine by you if he clears the rest of our schedule?” Basil chimed, now I might be forced to look at his face,
If I don’t do that while responding to him, he might think that I was now scared of looking him in the eye while speaking and I don’t want that.
I knew that he had plans for the rest of the day, I knew the minute he started asking Beta Brandon questions about the events of today, his plan was probably to spend time with Serena.
“It’s fine by me, I also have personal plans for the day” I cooed, I sure looked him in the eye while I did.
I didn’t have plans for the day but I didn’t want him to think he was the only one with plans, my wolf thinks that was very petty of me.
“Good” he muttered,
“Do the needful” he said, that must be for Beta Brandon.
He was almost done with his meal while I was barely halfway into mine, he must be in a hurry to have been this fast while eating.
Serena and I ought to meet to discuss this today, the conversation I had with her yesterday didn’t go well as she didn’t buy my suggestion, Fred said she might not be willing to discuss it with me again.
Willow has been in prison for more than forty-eight hours and I still couldn’t believe that Basil accused her of working for the rogues in the presence of everyone,
He could have done it here in the mansion or even informed me before doing it in the presence of the pack citizens and for that, I deserve an apology.
Serena made it known to me yesterday that after I angrily walked out of the circle formed by the pack citizens under the moonlight, Basil presented evidence.
I might be beginning to think that Willow did what she was accused of doing, initially, I assumed that he did that to get her out of our lives, my life especially.
The sudden hatred for Willow still surprises me, he went from singing her praises to getting irritated at the sight of her and it has to do with Serena.
“We have to talk” I dropped the cutleries in my hand and said to his face,
I didn’t see that coming but I got tired of him acting and being cold, if there was anyone that should be doing that, it ought to be me!
“I’m all ears” he folded his arms and rested his back on the dining chair he sat on before saying.
“What are your plans for Willow?” I went straight to the point,
“Investigation is ongoing, I need to know if she spoke the truth about Dean or not, and once I get answers, she’ll be executed” he explained,
It was as though he knew I would ask so he prepared a response for me already, my ears weren’t deceiving me, he did say that Willow would be executed.
The best way to react or the right words to say to him, I have no idea. I was delusional to think that he had plans to let her go after imprisoning her for a few years.
My eyes were no longer on his face as I took my time to ponder on his statement, I could have sworn that he didn’t mean it when he told the pack citizens that she would be executed.
“How about we let her go and she leaves the pack to start a life somewhere else?” I asked in a tone that can’t be called high.
“That won’t be possible, she has to be punished for her crimes just like we would have done to any pack citizen” he lectured me,
Now he wants to speak to me about doing what is just and right, he must have forgotten about our past and that made him speak that way.
“When you’re ready, meet me to show you evidence that Willow wasn’t wrongly accused” he rose to his feet and remarked, he was obviously about to walk out on me.
“In less than a year from now, we’ll be asked by the elders to provide an heir, who is supposed to be the carrier of our child?” My question to him,
Both of his palms kissed the dining table and I was patiently waiting for his response, Fred thought that question of mine didn’t make so much sense.
He has evidence like Serena said which means that Willow sold us to the rogues at some point but what happened to giving people second chances?
All the rogues have been killed so we don’t have to worry about her giving them information about the pack after we give her a second chance.
I will take it upon myself to threaten her and after doing that, I can be sure that she would never try anything funny again with us or the pack.
The rogues must have brainwashed or blackmailed her into doing what she did and I need Basil to understand that.
“I get that you’re in love with Willow which is fine even if you won’t accept that fact, she has the body, the skin, the face, the height, and so on so I can’t blame you” Basil broke the ongoing silence.
“I’m not in love with her” I didn’t hesitate to correct him and I did with love, Fred also thinks I’m in love with Willow.
“She betrayed the pack and she can do worse to us, I need you to know that,” he said.
“The next fated mate we’ll get ourselves, how sure are we that she won’t be worse than Willow?” I put it to him,
“We can release her from prison and lock her up in one of the rooms here in the mansion, then we continue to act like nothing happened” I mentioned, I wasn’t sure he would get this point of mine.
“Dear Twin, Willow messed with us and she has to pay for the consequences of her actions” he mumbled, I could tell he was rounding up his conversation with me.
“She doesn’t have to pay the hard way” I stood up and said, I was actually in support of her paying for her crimes but not just the hard way.
He looked me in the eye and took a step further afterward, I did the same because I wouldn’t let him just walk out on me while I was having a serious conversation with him.
“You think I don’t know all of this is because of Serena?” I said aloud, I didn’t care who was listening.
“You’re entitled to your opinions, twin” he was a step ahead of me when he responded.
I paused abruptly, I realized that it was of no use trying to catch up with him and talking senses into his head.
“Poor Basil, he’ll watch Serena go down and won’t be able to do anything about it” I muttered and smiled wickedly, I wish I had come up with this idea sooner.
He shouldn't have crossed me with her.
