Not enough evidence
Not enough evidence
Serena’s POV
“Who brought it?” I questioned the guard standing right in front of me,
“A messenger, I guess” he replied.
“Can you tell me what he looks like?” I further questioned,
“I didn’t stare at him for so long so I can’t” he hesitated to reply.
I took the letter out from his hand and asked him to leave nonverbally, Shaun sending me a letter again after so long felt off,
If there was something I admire about Shaun, it has to be his consistency so I couldn’t comprehend why he wasn’t consistent with sending me letters.
Initially, I was on my way to Alpha Bernard to have a word with him, I hadn’t set my eyes on him since yesterday so I wasn’t surprised when he sent for me,
He must be dying to know how things were going as regards the release of his dear lover and unfortunately for him, I don’t have good news.
“Open it!” Curiosity made Aria howl,
“I will but I have to see Alpha Bernard first” I cooed, I was just as curious as she was.
“Just glance through and when you’re done with…”
“I like to read Shaun’s letter word for word and you know that” I chimed.
Reading his letter in haste wasn’t something I would enjoy doing, Alpha Bernard had sent it for me minutes ago and I didn’t want to delay him any longer.
I resumed sauntering towards the penthouse, he would have so many questions to ask me and I didn’t have a speech planned as to why I would no longer be helping Willow get out of prison.
“What do you think would have happened if the tape recorder didn’t fall when it did?” Aria inquired,
“I would have evidence by now and Dean would have been out of prison” I replied her outwardly.
The little words of Willow that I could record weren’t enough evidence that my brother didn’t actually commit the crime he was accused of committing.
I walked into the penthouse and was a little shocked to find Alpha Basil present, the twin Alphas have been avoiding each other for a while now but I guess they made up already.
“Have your sit” Alpha Bernard ordered and I did as he said, our conversation would last for minutes and that was why I did as he ordered.
I wasn’t okay with the fact that Alpha Basil would find out about what transpired between his twin and me but I could do nothing about it.
“We haven’t spoken ever since you…” Alpha Bernard swallowed the rest of his words abruptly.
“Why don’t you let us go to the garden or somewhere more private?” He mentioned in a very high tone,
It felt so weird that he asked us to go somewhere more private, we don’t enjoy each other’s company but he wants us to be alone.
Alpha Basil wasn’t finding his twin’s words funny at all, he didn’t say a word but his actions said it all.
“Can’t you see he’s only trying to make his twin jealous?” Aria’s words to me.
“Why would he do that?” I asked,
“He probably thinks you both are in love” She howled.
“That’s crazy and childish of him, he needs to grow up” I cooed.
“I said probably, I’m not so sure,” Aria said.
“What do you have to say to my suggestion?”
Alpha Bernard inquired after we both stared at each other for a moment.
Alpha Basil got up before I could respond to his twin and now he was out of the penthouse, exactly what Alpha Bernard wanted, I guess.
“He can’t know about what we are planning or he’ll make moves and Willow will remain in there forever, and your brother of course,” he remarked.
“I actually think that Aria will remain in there forever” I spoke the truth knowing fully well that he wouldn’t want to hear it,
But as for my brother, he won’t be staying in there forever and I wouldn’t tell that to him or he might find out that I’ve been playing on her intelligence.
“She refused to cooperate with me after telling her what she needed to do,” I told him before he asked why I uttered my last statement.
“What did you tell her exactly?” He inquired,
“Some crap that I don’t want to bore you with,” I said, hoping that he won’t press further.
“I should step in,” he said,
“We both know that isn’t a good idea, we’ve talked about it before, remember?” I told him.
It became obvious to me that he cares so much about Willow more than I think he does, unfortunately, Alpha Basil doesn’t feel the same way.
This was going better than I expected, he wasn’t asking me too many questions and I loved it for us, I didn’t get to do too much talking.
In some minutes, I would be out of there as I needed to figure out the next thing to do to get my brother out of prison, I thought about it all night long but I came up with nothing.
“So what do we do or are you willing to let your brother remain in there and get executed soon?” He asked, I was about to rise to my feet when he did.
“You might want to give me time, I need to think” I lied.
Alpha Bernard and I would no longer be working together to get our candidates out of prison but if I tell him that, he might figure out that I played him,
If that happens, he might get angry and find a way to keep Dean in there forever which would be my loss.
“I have to go now” I announced, I also couldn’t wait to read Shaun’s letter.
I got up and remembered to pick up the letter on the sofa that I sat on, Alpha Bernard gazed at me and I wasn’t sure it was something to be worried about.
“Looks like you have a secret admirer” he mumbled,
“Yeah, I do have a lot of admirers” I murmured and was sure to be audible enough so his ears could catch.
He must have thought that everyone would treat me the same way he treated me in the past, his twin included.
Alpha Basil has been sober actually and I could see through him that he’s deeply sorry for all he did to me in the past, perhaps the bond we now share made it possible.
I flaunted the letter in my hand and it was for no other reason but for Alpha Bernard to know that the rejected stone is now someone’s corner stone.
“Hang in there Dean, I’ll get you out soon” I muttered after stepping out of the penthouse.
“The news of us triumphing over the rogues must have gotten to him and he must be wondering why I haven’t returned home” I mentioned to Aria even though I knew she no longer cared about Shaun like she used to.
“You scared me!” I paused and mentioned,
I found Alpha Bernard by my side all of a sudden and it got me frightened, he didn’t even act like he was sorry for what he did.
“Why don’t we make a statement and act like Dean made it, then we inform the pack citizens about it” he decided to go straight to the point,
“What will the statement be about?” I asked.
“Him agreeing that he worked for the rogues and that he threatened Willow to join her and left with no choice” he spewed rubbish, I knew he didn’t have her best interest at heart.
“So what happens after that?” I was interested in hearing the rubbish that he had to say,
“The pack citizens will feel for Willow and ask that we let her go” he made a fool of himself and not me.
“What happens to my brother then?” Aria asked me to ask him,
“After Willow’s release, we’ll let him go and he’ll relocate to another pack to start a new life” he eagerly responded, he must think that he came up with a foolproof plan.
“Why isn’t Willow the one opening up? I’d much prefer if it happens the other way around” I said to his face,
“Willow has to remain in the pack and you know it, she has to be able to also walk freely without the pack citizens pointing fingers at her” he lectured,
Innocent Dean should be the one the pack citizens would point fingers at or curse whenever they remember him, how nice of him to come up with something like this.
“You will do nothing of such,” I told him,
I had a feeling he would go behind my back to do it which means I might have to start keeping an eye on him.
Walking out on him was Aria’s idea and I was glad I did it, it was finally time to read Shaun’s letter.
I smiled at the thought of seeing him again one day.
