Chapter 46
Amira’s POV.
I found myself strolling through my closet repeatedly, each time greeted by an array of options that Nikolas had meticulously organized. Every rack was brimming with choices, a rainbow of colors and styles, yet despite the abundance, I struggled to finalize my travel outfits. Doubt began to creep in, casting shadows over everything except my pajamas. Our destination was a coastal haven, its gentle breezes promising a tropical vibe that called for shorter, airier ensembles. And yet, I found myself standing in a sea of clothes, paralyzed by indecision.
"Nikolas, you make it sound so simple. But I'm packing for a week, and I swear, it's like I'm prepping for a fashion showdown," I lamented, watching as he neatly shut his own compact suitcase. He had it easy – he was only tagging along for a maximum of three days. Besides, he had the infuriating ability to look effortlessly stylish in whatever he wore.
He chuckled, looking at me with an amused glint in his eyes. "Come on, Amira, my queen of style, it's just a week. How challenging can it be to select your wardrobe?"
"Must be nice," I muttered under my breath, throwing Nikolas an irritated glance as he stood there, all polished and suited up. His lips curved into that infuriating smirk I'd come to both love and resent. The momentary satisfaction from seeing that smirk falter under my glare was short-lived as he let out a sigh and rested his hands on his hips, adopting a more understanding demeanor.
Nikolas observed as I hesitated, plucking dresses off the rack only to reconsider and place them back again, a cycle of uncertainty that had left my suitcase dominated by pajamas. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at my own indecisiveness.
"Ah, the eternal struggle of the perfect vacation wardrobe," he chimed in, his voice a mix of amusement and empathy. I shot him a look that conveyed a mix of frustration and fondness. Why did he have to be so effortlessly attractive in everything?
A groan escaped my lips as I bemoaned, "You're telling me. I mean, there's an entire ocean at our destination, Nikolas, and I have to make sure I'm appropriately ocean-ready, whatever that means."
Nikolas crossed his arms, his gaze following my back-and-forth with the dresses. Then, as if he had all the answers, he gracefully sauntered over to another section of the closet, plucking out a couple of sundresses with ease – a navy one and a sky blue one that seemed to stretch to the horizon. He handed them to me with a triumphant look, and I had to admit, his choices instantly felt right.
As I marveled at the dresses he had chosen, I realized how he saw things I couldn't. Maybe because he wasn't bogged down by the stress of decision-making or perhaps he just had an innate sense of what would suit me. Regardless, his selections resonated with me, becoming instant favorites that I couldn't believe I had overlooked earlier.
But my rationality wasn't to be deterred. "Oh, but what about workouts or magical practice? I can't just parade around in dresses all the time."
Nikolas casually strolled over to the drawer, pulling out a set of cropped dri-fit shirts and matching shorts, all practical and stylish. I had to give it to him; he had a knack for making even workout clothes seem fashionable.
My attention turned to planning outfits for dinners and events – a task that felt like tiptoeing through a social minefield. "I don't want to seem like I'm trying too hard," I mused, my brow furrowing in thought.
Nikolas couldn't help but chuckle at my uncertainty. "Amira, you're a queen. You could wear a sequined dress to bed, and no one would dare question your choice."
I raised an eyebrow, a small smile tugging at my lips. "That would be quite uncomfortable."
"Metaphorically speaking," he clarified, leaning in to plant a gentle kiss on my forehead, his lips lingering with a warmth that always calmed my nerves.
As I sorted through my emotions, I admitted my inner turmoil. "I think I'm just overwhelmed by all of this. And nervous."
Nikolas's touch was reassuring, his thumb brushing over my cheek as he spoke with soothing confidence. "How about we let the maidens handle the packing this time? They're experts at making sure you're prepared."
"But can I really let go of that control?" I wondered aloud, my gaze fixed on his steady eyes.
He lifted my hand to his lips, placing a tender kiss on my knuckles. "They've got this. Trust them, and in the meantime, let's focus on the excitement that awaits us."
I agreed, a weight lifted off my shoulders as I surrendered to his reasoning. "Okay, you're right."
Nikolas's grip tightened on my hand, his eyes shining with reassurance. "Now, my queen, I'm whisking you away for a surprise. A distraction, if you will."
"Was that your way of earning brownie points?" I inquired playfully, nudging Nikolas with my shoulder as we strolled through the grand hallway, arm in arm. His chuckle sent warmth through me as he pulled me closer, planting a tender kiss on the crown of my head.
"Absolutely," he confessed with a wink, his eyes sparkling in the soft glow of the palace's chandeliers. "My queen's distress is my prime opportunity to shine."
"Smooth talker," I teased, rolling my eyes in mock exasperation. We approached the maidens, and Nikolas smoothly segued from playful banter to business, sharing his insights and directions for my packing. I admired how he handled every situation with such ease, his charisma working its magic even in practical matters.
Once we had conferred with the maidens, Nikolas's fingers interlocked with mine, and we ventured outside into the garden. The night air was alive with a gentle breeze, and the celestial sky above was adorned with a waxing gibbous moon and its shimmering entourage of stars. The anticipation bubbled within me, a mix of curiosity and excitement for the surprise he had planned.
"Okay, Nikolas, spill the beans," I urged, playfully nudging his side as we walked, our footsteps creating a soft rhythm on the garden path.
He feigned innocence, a mischievous glint dancing in his eyes. "Oh no, my queen, this is a surprise. You'll have to wait and see."
The moonlight painted his features with a soft radiance, and I couldn't help but admire him. He had a way of turning even the simplest moments into something magical. However, the mood shifted as he brought our leisurely walk to a halt. His expression grew serious, and my curiosity was met with palpable intensity.
"There's something I need to discuss during the trip," Nikolas began, his voice carrying a weight that matched his serious demeanor. He held my hands gently, his touch grounding and reassuring.
“What about it, Nikolas?” I began to wonder, taking in the sight of my husband in a clinging t-shirt with only joggers under the moonlight– Had it been a full moon we would’ve been naked in a matter of seconds.
“Just that we should be prepared well. I told you I don’t trust Ace and I meant it,” Nikolas mentioned and I took a deep breath and nodded. his protective instincts are evident. I understood where he came from, I truly did and I appreciated him still helping me even when he wasn’t too sure about Ace himself.
“I understand, what would you like to discuss further?” I asked, knowing there was surely more.
“Perhaps don’t overshare with them too much, I still want you to have a good time but remain vigilant, don’t accept their drinks and food if it wasn’t prepared in front of you. If it’s at a table make sure to grab your serving yourself and always eat after others took the first bites– I will get you a small veil of bane repellent in case–,” Nikolas began to list, heading straight to get everything off his chest but I couldn’t help but to cringe. It seemed as if I didn’t trust them and now Nikolas seemed to be doing a little too much.
“Nikolas, don’t you think that’s too much?” I rubbed his huge arms and tilted my head a little as I looked up at him.
As he finished listing the safety measures, I cringed slightly. "Nikolas, it's not that I don't appreciate your concern, but it's going to look like I don't trust them at all."
He let out a sigh, his expression softening as he cupped my face with one hand, his thumb brushing my cheek. "Amira, It's not about that. It's about safeguarding what's important."
“Amira, you are a queen, it means you become a target. I just want you to have a good time but remain safe,” Nikolas stated firmly and I could tell I couldn’t convince him otherwise.
“Fine, I’ll be sure to be careful, anything else I should look out for?” I sighed and hoped this was the end of his list.
“Hm, no just those three things and I’ll be able to close my eyes at night,” Nikolas' lips curled into a smile.
“You’re so dramatic sometimes,” I laughed and shook my head.
“I’d rather be dramatic than have regrets later,” Nikolas leaned down to kiss me briefly, “Now let’s go to the destination.”
He leaned down, capturing my lips in a brief, reassuring kiss. "That's all I ask. Now, let's get back to the enchanting part of the evening, shall we?"
I grinned, letting his charm sweep away my lingering concerns. As he led the way to our mysterious destination, his hand intertwined with mine, I felt a mixture of gratitude and excitement. With Nikolas by my side, every moment was an adventure, and I was ready to embrace whatever surprises the night held.
As we ventured further into the heart of the garden, I couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement deep within me. The moonlit path led us to a picturesque setup – picnic blankets sprawled out on the grass, two delicate wine glasses waiting to be filled, and an inviting basket positioned at the center. My heart swelled at the thoughtfulness and effort Nikolas had put into creating this enchanting scene.
Seated on the blankets, we delved into conversations that went beyond the surface – our dreams, aspirations, and the intricate details that were our lives. The night air carried our words, mingling with the soft rustling of leaves and the distant melody of crickets.
As our conversation flowed, Nikolas unveiled the contents of the basket – an array of treats that spoke directly to my heart. Berries and chocolate nestled alongside my favorite sweets, creating a symphony of flavors that danced on my taste buds. With every bite, I felt a sense of delight and comfort, as if he had taken my deepest cravings and woven them into the fabric of this magical night.
The hours slipped away in a haze of laughter, shared secrets, and stolen glances. The night was everything I had hoped for and more – sweet, romantic, and brimming with the kind of intimacy that only heightened my connection with Nikolas. Time seemed to bend around us, cocooning us in a bubble of affection and stolen moments.
At some point, fatigue had gotten the best of me, and my eyelids grew heavy. I must have drifted off, but my slumber was fleeting. I stirred briefly and found Nikolas cradling me in his arms. He carried me with care, his strength a comforting cocoon around me.
The journey back to our bed was a blur, a mixture of consciousness and dream, but the sensation of being held securely never wavered. As he laid me down, I let out a contented sigh, my fingers instinctively finding him as if seeking assurance even in sleep.

As the sun rose the following morning, Nikolas and I were already up and bustling with anticipation for our journey ahead. The mixture of happiness and nervousness stirred within me, a concoction of emotions that danced through every step of our morning routine. From the shower to breakfast, my heart beat in rhythm with the unknown adventure that awaited us.
The car ride was filled with palpable energy, conversations bouncing between us like a playful melody. With every mile we covered, the landscape seemed to shift, mirroring the shifts in my emotions. Our path took us past the ruins of the Ocean Dawn Pack, where nature had claimed the abandoned structures, adorning them with vibrant greens and colorful blossoms. It was a bittersweet sight, a reminder of what once was my home.
As we approached the Oceans Howl Pack, a new aura enveloped us, igniting a sense of curiosity. The transformation was undeniable – groups of children gathered, practicing their telekinesis under the guidance of an adult figure who showed what they expected from the children.
The pack's housing exuded a familiar coastal vibe, reminding me of the architecture back at the Ocean Dawn Pack. The houses stood as a tribute to the connection between land and sea. Each step we took seemed to echo a promise of adventure, and I couldn't help but take in the lush surroundings and the tropical climate. I loved the kingdom, but sometimes a little tropical moment is truly needed.
As we drew closer to the heart of the pack, Ace and a brunette woman caught our attention. Nikolas squeezed my thigh reassuringly, and I met his gaze, my excitement mirrored in his eyes, “Are you ready?”
“Yes, let’s go meet them,” I said excitedly, taking a deep breath. Ace rushed to open the door, greeting Nikolas as he did so then looked over at me.
“Queen Amira, we are so pleased to have you here,” Ace bows down and then extends a hand out for a firm handshake.
“This is my assistant, my right-hand woman, my beta, Ava Solace,” Ace pointed to the brunette with deep blue eyes.
“Thanks for the great introduction,” Ava looked over at Ace with a playful look then turned to us. “It’s nice to meet you, King Nikolas and Queen Amira, it truly is an honor to have you here," she said and shook each of our hands.
“It is nice to meet you too, Ava,” I smiled warmly.
"Shall we proceed to where you'll be staying?" Ava asked, her gaze shifting between Nikolas and me.
Nikolas's curiosity surfaced as he inquired about the forthcoming tour. "After settling in, a tour sounds fantastic."
"Absolutely, we've arranged a cozy house for you near the center," Ava shared with a smile, gesturing to a team that had appeared seemingly out of nowhere to collect our luggage.
Following Ava, we reached a charming beach house that was nestled amidst the tropical foliage. Its inviting presence elicited admiration, and I couldn't resist sharing my delight. "This house is incredible."
Ace's smile widened as he responded, "Only the best for our esteemed guests."
With our belongings settled, Ava guided us back outside, ready to unveil the heart of the Oceans Howl Pack.
