Chapter 47
Amira’s POV.
As the tour began, my heart swelled with fascination, the similarities between this pack and the Ocean Dawn Pack tugging at my memories. The intricate details, the sense of unity, and the powerful connection to the sea resonated deeply within me.
As Nikolas absorbed the surroundings, I couldn't help but notice his growing fascination. I recalled his stories of visiting me at the Ocean Dawn Pack as a child, and now, it was almost the same as the Ocean Dawn Pack, only this was different.
"Shall we embark on this tour?" Ace cleared his throat, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
I nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, and intertwined my fingers with Nikolas'. With Ace and Ava leading the way, we set off on our journey. Our first stop was the vibrant market, an array of colors and aromas assaulting our senses. Amidst the display of fresh fruits and veggies, a tantalizing sight awaited us – cold coconuts with just a single straw, beckoning to be enjoyed. Nikolas and I couldn't resist, and as we sipped the refreshing coconut water, we knew our adventure was off to a great start.
As we continued, the landscape transformed, and we were introduced to the town's monuments that whispered stories of history. Yet, the most intriguing part lay ahead – a mysterious path winding through the lush jungle. Drawn into its puzzling embrace, we ventured deeper, where an astonishing sight awaited us. Wolves, majestic and powerful, were practicing telekinesis amidst the foliage.
Ace's voice broke the silence, revealing the secret purpose of this hidden sanctuary. "This is where we used to hone our skills. A well-protected haven for training, known to few, ensured our safety in practicing."
Captivated by the wolves' display of power, I couldn't help but ask the question lingering in my mind. "You mentioned Ava is your beta, but are you the alpha of this pack?" My eyes searched for answers as I gazed at the surroundings.
Ace's demeanor shifted, a mixture of humility and pride. "In a sense, yes. My grandfather holds the alpha title, but he is out traveling and his travels have led me to take charge for the past two years."
Ava chimed in, adding more to the tale. "The official ceremony is yet to take place."
Nikolas absorbed the information, his curiosity piqued. "I understand."
Our journey pressed on, unveiling a concealed cave with a purpose beyond its appearance. The variety of plant inspection had a hidden purpose – a training ground that lay much farther with the oldest history. With every step, Ace and Ave told tales of tradition, secrets, and unity, grounding us in the pack's rich history with their ‘secret’ powers.
But the revelations were far from over. A vast underground expanse opened up before us, holding the secrets of the most ancient training site. As Ace spoke, his voice resonated with the weight of legacy and significance.
Transitioning from the cave, we were led to the heart of learning – the schools. A transformed approach to education greeted us, one that embraced healing alongside telekinesis, utilizing the pack's abundance of potent plants. The swift adaptation to this progressive curriculum amazed me since it was only two weeks ago that the court ruled with us wolves that had telekinesis.
As the tour unfolded, we finally arrived at a building of knowledge – the library. Ava gestured toward it, a mix of reverence and pride in her expression. "Our sole library in Oceans Howl. A treasury of wisdom and stories." Something tells me this might be her favorite place.
Our adventure continued, each step unraveling the layers of this unique pack and its people. Amidst the drama of evolving norms and the simmering romance between Ace and Ava, we found ourselves inexorably entwined in a world where mystique and discovery coexisted in perfect harmony.
"This is the heart of our pack, where your journey began," Ace began, his voice carrying a sense of significance. As I scanned the surroundings, my eyes caught the vibrant banners and triangular flags, all adorned in Oceans Howl's signature hues – a harmonious blend of sky blue and beige.
Noticing the sudden transformation, I couldn't help but inquire. "The decorations – they've appeared out of nowhere. Is something special planned?"
A playful gleam danced in Ace's eyes as he leaned casually against one of the pillars. "Indeed, tonight marks the grand festival we've orchestrated to celebrate your arrival."
My curiosity was piqued, and I leaned in closer to hear more. Ava stepped in, her words painted with excitement. "There'll be dancing under the starlit sky, a feast of delectable dishes, drinks, and the chance for everyone to share their unique experiences."
Ace's next revelation held a profound weight, one that tightened my grip on Nikolas' hand. "I've also invited those who found refuge with us after the Ocean Dawn massacre. They'll be here."
"The other survivors too?" It felt like a dream, a stroke of unbelievable luck.
Ace's smile revealed a shared accomplishment. "With Ava's assistance, we've managed to bring them together."
With the festival unfolding in my mind, Ace and Ava led us on, completing the tour at the alpha's residence – a grand edifice reserved for important gatherings and meetings. Ace's decision not to reside here made sense, considering it a more communal building rather than a home.
With the tour's end drawing near, Ava's words excited Nikolas more than me, "We've shown you much. I imagine you both could use some rest. Your own house awaits."
Back in our house, the atmosphere was a blend of relaxation whilst Nikolas was busy inspecting just about everything. As I settled into the hammock, Nikolas moved about, his vigilance evident as he inspected every nook and cranny. Despite the unease, his dedication to our safety warmed my heart.
"Nikolas, my love, come here," I beckoned, my voice gentle. Slowly, he made his way to me, slipping into the hammock. His arm enveloped me, drawing me close, and a sense of security washed over me.
Curled against his chest, I voiced the question swirling within me. "What are your thoughts on all of this?" My words held a mix of curiosity and tenderness.
"The pack seems to be thriving," Nikolas exhaled, his fingers tracing gentle patterns on my arm. "I must confess, Ava appears trusting, yet she doesn't extend the same trust to Ace. It's a dynamic that raises concerns for me."
I let out a drawn-out sigh, grappling with the topic that had become a recurring point of contention. "Nikolas, we've discussed this before," I gently reminded him. "Let's allow things to unfold naturally. I understand your reservations, but I also don't want you to be consumed by them."
He clenched his jaw, a visible sign of his internal struggle before he exhaled slowly. "Perhaps you're right. I'll try to keep my thoughts to myself."
I traced shapes on his chest, seeking to alleviate the tension that had arisen between us. "What would you like to do now?" I inquired, my touch light and soothing.
"Rest. We're attending the festival later, correct?" Nikolas asked, opening one eye to meet my gaze.
A soft chuckle escaped me. "Well, yes. After all, it's in our honor."
"Perfect. And tomorrow, you're still planning to take me to Ocean Dawn?" Nikolas inquired, his voice laced with anticipation as he settled more comfortably into the hammock.
"Yes, that's the plan," I replied, my own eyes growing heavy as the day's activities caught up with me.
As the sun painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, we succumbed to slumber, the gentle sway of the hammock lulling us into peaceful rest. By the time our eyes fluttered open, the vibrant sunset bathed the horizon, casting a breathtaking canvas before us. Nikolas couldn't resist capturing the moment, his camera immortalizing me against the backdrop of nature's masterpiece.
Stepping out of the hammock, we faced the evening ahead – a festival eagerly anticipated by all. Despite Ava's explanations, the aura of excitement and curiosity enveloped us as we approached the lively scene. The air buzzed with the rhythm of upbeat music, and children's laughter intermingled with conversations of newfound freedom.
Observing the kids converse animatedly, their discussion centered around their ability to publicly display their powers, brought a warm smile to my lips. It was proof of the pack's progress, the shift toward acceptance, and the interconnectedness that binds us to the rest of the world.
Our attention shifted to the culinary delights prepared right before our eyes – sizzling grills that promised an array of delectable treats. Nikolas, ever the vigilant protector, had taken precautionary measures against any poisoning possible. He had brought several vials of antidotes even! Crazy. His cautious nature is funny in its own way. His actions spoke of his desire to safeguard our bond at all costs, a sentiment that was both heartwarming and amusing.
"Are you finding joy in the festivities, Queen Amira?" Ace inquired, his lips curving around the rim of his drink.
"I am genuinely grateful for all of this. Nikolas and I can't thank you enough," I replied, my fingers finding Nikolas' arm, a silent testament to our unity.
Ace's offer to introduce us to some people intrigued us, and we followed him, eager to connect with those who had found a haven here. The group he led us to consisted of around fifteen individuals, each carrying a unique story etched into their expressions. The spectrum of ages spanned from the elderly to those just a few years older than me, and even a pair of teenagers. As their tales began to unfold, it became evident that these were the survivors, each harboring experiences that mirrored the pain and loss inflicted by the Ocean Dawn massacre.
One of the older men, his gaze resting upon the teenage girl beside him, recounted his harrowing journey. "I was among the few who managed to survive. I was on the fringes of the territory when the attack unfolded. My granddaughter, Maya, was just a newborn. Our tradition dictates that we perform a sacred ceremony, washing the child in a fresh stream. On that fateful day, my wife and I were performing this rite. My wife implored me to flee with Maya, leaving her behind to check on our sons. She never returned, nor did my sons. Oceans Howl welcomed me, but fear urged me to journey even farther. I found refuge with another pack, thanks to my skills as a doctor. I may lack the powers, but my wife possessed them, and now Maya carries that legacy. That's why I've decided to return to Oceans Howl – she deserves training and the chance to master her abilities," One of the older men began to explain, his hand resting on the teen girl’s shoulder who looked an awful look like her. The story broke my heart to hear.
There were several other stories that were just as heartbroken. So far there wasn’t a single complete family that made it out alive. The story of the teenager truly broke my heart. He was merely a newborn, taken by rogues– good ones who kept him safe for years before dropping him off at the ocean howl pack when he was old enough. Now the last person had to speak, an elderly woman.
“I guess it is my turn now… I’m originally from the ocean howl pack, an only daughter of a Beta. I met my mate but he was from the Ocean Dawn pack. On top of that, he was a child of a Beta and trained to take his father’s position. We loved each other dearly but neither of us wanted to leave our home, we believed we’d make a great power couple being Beta’s of two packs. It was incredible because we got to live in both places and everything was great since I was the daughter. The duties of Beta fell into my lap when my father retired the same way it did for my husband. My husband was perfect but his loyalty to Ocean Dawn was unwavering. It’s where our daughter was born and grew up for the most part of her life. The night of the attack was my father’s birthday so I took my daughter to her grandfather’s birthday. My husband was hesitant to leave, I couldn’t figure out why but he claimed to have a bad feeling and said he’d come in the morning. Only when morning came I found out my husband died fighting alongside the alpha and despite the Alpha’s efforts to make his escape, my husband still failed to do so and helped another escape, Lenny. Now I had my place in the ocean howl pack already and I was safe since no one knew about my powers. My daughter Ava and I have been safe but vigilant and as for Lenny, he switched to a winter pack but he’s here tonight,” the woman’s tale left us gasping. She was Ava’s mother! Ava is from Ocean Dawn too! It was all so wild, so sad and so much to process.
“Despite everything, I truly am happy you survived, you fought for our people and you brought us something better than justice, and acceptance, for that I thank you,” Ava’s mother smiled warmly.
The festival concluded with the poignant tales of survivors echoing in our hearts. As the night wore on, we indulged in the camaraderie, enjoying the company and culture with their foods and drinks. Eventually, Nikolas and I retired to our home, fatigued from the day's events urging us towards rest.
Lying in the quiet embrace of our bedroom, the weight of the survivors' stories lingered. "I believe we should do something meaningful for them," I whispered, my thoughts restless, mirroring my unsettled tossing and turning.
"I share your sentiment, but we must tread carefully. Our intentions are noble, yet finding the right course of action will require time and consideration. We wouldn’t want to haste things," Nikolas, ever the voice of reason, replied, his words carrying gentle wisdom.
I exhaled, my fingers absentmindedly grazing my lower lip. "Reforming the Ocean Dawn pack, even in its ruins... I know it's an unusual thought, but I can't help but wonder if it's possible after all these years."
His hand found mine, pulling me closer to his warmth. "Being the alpha's sole heir does grant you authority. But remember, the path wouldn't be easy. The pack holds memories, and for some, they may still bear the weight of past traumas."
His words struck a chord, and I nodded, nestling against him. "You're right. I just yearn to make a difference for them. Perhaps something that symbolizes unity, a merging of Dawn and Howl packs. They share similarities, and it might just be the bridge we need."
"Amira, the idea isn't terrible at all. But we must strategize before we act. A union of this kind requires meticulous planning, with the well-being and feelings of everyone involved at its core." Nikolas' contemplative expression hinted at his intrigue and not judgment- this was a good sign.
My fingers played with a strand of his hair as his thoughts churned. "You're right, we should approach this methodically. Get some rest, my sweet husband."
A soft smile graced his lips. "I appreciate your trust, my queen. Now get some sleep, I expect my guide of Ocean Dawn to include some bikinis in the ocean."
I rolled my eyes playfully and leaned in to kiss him tenderly, then nestled against his neck, the rhythm of his heartbeat soothing. As the night enveloped us, I trusted him, I knew he’d go above and beyond to make me happy. I'll accept his offer to wait because he’d come up with something far better.
