Chapter 274 154| The First Hybrid.
DAISY
Today’s birthday party doubled as a celebration for defeating the Olga months ago. I never wanted this, but the Alpha King, Luna Queen, my parents, and the entire kingdom insisted on celebrating me. So, here I was in this pink ball gown, walking down the hall while the people parted ways for me to pass.
Whispers could be heard across the hall while everybody looked at me with awe. Gosh, why were they making this seem like a big deal? All I did was destroy the Olga.
My father joined me halfway, hooking his arm around mine while we walked towards the Alpha King and his Luna Queen together.
“Everyone, I present to you, Daisy Northwood. The first hybrid. The hero of the continent,” the Alpha King announced and gestured at me with a smile on his face.
Claps echoed through the hall and my cheeks reddened with a blush.
When we came to a stop in front of the Alpha King and Luna Queen, Luna Starlette wrapped her arms around me in a warm embrace.
“Happy birthday, little one,” she muttered.
I bowed at her gracefully. “Thank you.”
Alpha Maximus looked around. “You were supposed to come with Axel. Where is he?”
“Uhm... uhm... he...” I stammered. Fuck. I bit my inner lip, quickly juggling my brain for something to say.
His face twisted in a frown. “If he’s not here, there’s only one place that he can be. I am going after him before he gets himself killed.”
Luna Starlette quickly placed her hand on his chest, looking at him. “Maximus. He will be fine.”
He shook his head and sighed exasperatedly. “That boy will kill me with a heart attack.”
“And my baby has finally arrived,” I heard Mother’s voice call from behind, and I turned to see her approaching with a wide grin on her face.
My eyes lit up when I saw Grandpa behind her.
“Grandpa!” I beamed, closing the distance between us and jumping on him. I had not seen him in months, and I never expected him to show up here. He never attended events like this.
“You hate parties,” I voiced out my thoughts.
“But I could never miss my only grandchild’s party.” He grinned. “I’ve come with gifts. But they are in your room. You’ll see them after the celebration.”
“Thank you!” I beamed.
“And just like that, I’ve become invisible,” Mother muttered, and I turned to see her rolling her eyes.
A smile touched my lips as I wrapped my arms around her. “I am sorry. You know you are the best. I just got a little excited seeing Grandpa.”
“Of course I know that. I am the best,” she prided.
“And me, what am I?” my dad said beside us, jealous.
I lifted my gaze and chuckled. “You are also the best. And I love the both of you so much.”
He wrapped his arms around us in a group hug. “We love you too, honey.”
Their arms around me felt like warmth and peace. They were my everything, and I was glad to have them as my parents. I wanted this happiness to last forever. When I finally met my mate, I wondered if he would ever love me as much as my parents loved each other—as much as they loved me.
My mother pulled away from the hug and cupped my face with her palms, staring directly into my eyes. “I am so proud of the woman you have become, Daisy. So, so proud. I couldn’t have asked for a better daughter.”
“And I couldn’t have asked for better parents,” I muttered, darting my gaze between the both of them.
“We love you,” Dad patted my shoulder gently.
“I love...” I trailed off when a sweet, soothing smell hit my nose. It smelt like… heaven.
Without hesitation, I flicked my head in the direction that delicious smell was coming from, and my eyes met with a tall blonde who was walking into the room.
Everything within me began to pull me towards him, my mouth watering for a taste of him. His eyes were also pinned on me as he met me halfway.
He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him, burying his nose in my neck. The feel of his hand on me caused tingles to ripple through my entire being. I had never felt anything like this before.
“Mate!” he growled.
“Mate!” a strange voice howled in my head. My wolf.
He held me tight for a moment, savoring my scent before finally pulling away from me. He held my shoulders and his eyes burrowed into mine.
“Who are you? What is your name?” he asked. His eyes narrowed as if he had just realized something. “Are you perhaps Princess Daisy? The one everyone here is gathered to celebrate?”
I nodded eagerly, everything within me compelling me to smash my lips on his. I was about to obey when suddenly...
“If this isn’t the greatest news this year. The first hybrid, mated to a westerner. Hopefully, she’ll honor the mate bond and become one of us,” the Western Alpha King cheered as he approached us.
“A westerner,” I muttered as I continued staring at him.
“Yes, baby. I am the Alpha of a small pack in the west. I had been waiting for this day all my life. I am so grateful for being gifted the most beautiful woman on earth as my mate.” He pulled me even closer to him. “I promise to protect you until I take my last breath.” He leaned so close that I could feel his breath on my face.
“My princess, if I may...”
I didn’t even wait for him to complete the sentence before smashing my lips against his. Pleasure boiled through my veins at the taste of his sweet, soft lips. I had always wondered what a mate bond would feel like.
This feeling was heavenly!
